A Birmingham vicar was today accused of "political correctness gone mad" after calling for the historic Saracen's Head pub to be renamed because it offends Muslims.Kings Norton's rector, Canon Rob Morris, said the name, which harks back to the Crusades, was "offensive", although he had heard no complaints.
Mr Morris called for the name change just hours before the 500-year-old former pub stars tonight in the BBC's Restoration television show, presented by Griff Rhys Jones. But his view has been blasted by one city councillor.
Coun Margaret Sutton, who represents Kings Norton, said: "It's political correctness gone mad. What next? Will they change the name of the church as well?
"It's a name we all accept and really don't take any notice of. No-one has ever come to me to complain."
But Mr Morris remained unrepentant today.
"The name we have got does manage to be offensive to Muslims and that's not what Christians stand for.
"It's clearly disrespectful to another religious tradition in this city. We shall be looking for brilliant ideas for a name change that will signify something to all."
He said residents would be consulted about any change at the parish-owned building, although he acknowledged the name had been used "in all innocence for years by people who are very attached to it".
Birmingham Central Mosque chairman Dr Mohammed Naseem said Saracens were a symbol of "hatred and animosity".
The Saracen's Head was built as a manor house in 1492, but was not known by the name until it became an inn in the early 19th century.
Are the Muslims planning to "apologize" for the 1 million Western Europeans, including many Britons and Irish, the "Saracens" took as slaves during the raids of the Barbary Pirates? Or for the Jihad against Western nations that swallowed up most of Southern Europe and caused the deaths and enslavement of millions? When they do, maybe there's a case for getting rid of "The Saracen's Head." But not until then.
And what exactly will the good vicar do when the muslims tell him that they are offended when he calls himself a christian? Will he blame himself as the sword completes it's arc, separating his obviously brainless head from his undeniably gutless body? What an ass.
Might I suggest renaming this unclean establishment the "Christian's Head"? The heads of real Christians could be placed on pikes in front of the building for advertising purposes. I'm sure that arrangements could be made for a continuing supply of fresh heads.
Of course, once all the British people embrace Islam, there would develop a shortage of heads. I'm sure that importation from America could be arranged, but there really would be no need. There will be no vending of alcohol in the Islamic state.

Since when was Christianity in the business of bending over backward to keep from offending? Christians have been "offending" from day one. The Gospels are full of examples. The Birmingham Vicar needs to go back and review Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as well as Old Testament texts. He has become an example of a wishy-washy Christianity that has no relevance or authority.

A Birmingham clergyman has asked for forgiveness from the people of Suffolk after branding them "turnip tossers".
Canon Rob Morris said he could not remember making the comment but admitted it was "unfortunate to say the least".
The astonishing remark was reported by comedian Griff Rhys-Jones in the build-up to a new series of the BBC TV show Restoration.
Mr Morris is backing a project to restore a 12th Century grammar school in Kings Norton in Birmingham which faces tough competition in the regional heats from the bid to preserve a Battle of Britain transmitter block at Bawdsey Manor, near Felixstowe, Suffolk.
Rhys-Jones said there had been dismay in Suffolk that it had been put in the same region as the Midlands and said Mr Morris had expressed surprise at "being lumped in with the turnip tossers".
Mr Morris said yesterday: "It's only possible that Griff said something amusingly rude about Birmingham and that may have prompted me to reply in kind."
Mr Morris stressed: "It's certainly not my opinion of the lovely people of Suffolk. I have got a cousin who lives just north of Leiston and good friends in Ipswich and Aldeburgh - and I would like to still receive Christmas cards from them."
The two projects will also be up against a bid to restore Newstead Abbey, the former home of Lord Byron, in a programme to be shown on BBC2 next month. Viewers vote for the building they would most like to see restored and the winner will go on to the national final.
Mr Morris said his group's bid was to restore the grammar school, in Pershore Road, Kings Norton, and a 15th Century timber-framed house in Kings Norton, which the parish has owned since the 1930s.
"It should be a good contest. It is ironic that Suffolk, a place where there are lots of medieval buildings, has put forward a project which is 70 years old," he said.
"And Birmingham, which people generally think of as an industrial metropolis, is putting up two significant medieval buildings.
"Obviously, I hope we win. But I also hope that because of this television show, these buildings, plus others, get support from people who will not just restore them but preserve them too."
The Bawdsey bid is to restore a Grade II listed transmitter block, which provided radar services during the Second World War and particularly in the Battle of Britain.
Mr Morris, minister at St Nicolas Church in Kings Norton, said the clamour surrounding the bid and television show was "terribly exciting" but it did not excuse any slurs on rival bids.
"One of the many virtues we celebrate as a parish is diversity and the church is working very hard to make sure it is inclusive, so I would regret calling an entire county 'turnip tossers'," he said.
"I know the people of Suffolk have quite a sense of humour and sometimes call themselves these things, but I am really sorry if I caused any upset."
Reza makes some useful points. I value his contributions. It is also possible that Reza is an agent provocateur or a faux Muslim. Ordinary Iranians are beginning to hate Islam more then any other group. Reza may be one of those, who is actively trying to incite greater animosity towards Islam.

4.Pointing out that Muslims will forever be 'our dhimmis'. By going on the offensive, it makes Muslims go on the defensive, and unable to bring the Jihad to you.
5. By waging war on behalf of the religion of Freedom, to liberate Muslims from the subjugation imposed on them by Islam.
It does not matter if you are an Athiest, Christian, Buddhist or whatever. It does not matter how and which way you do it.We just need to weaken the hold of Islam on each Muslim we meet. This is the counter-Jihad.
In the counter-Jihad, it does not matter if you use subterfuge or deception. Only victory matters. The price of defeat is far too high for any such niceties.

Surely nobody now doubts that he is pulling our legs?! Very cleverly too - he has the Musimspeak down to a fine art. The above reminds me of the wonderful Irish comedian Dave Allen (Brits will know him), who used to impersonate a hellfire preacher talking about 'weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth'.
