The issue of making sure Muslim children can choose halal food at school has been put under the spotlight by politicians in Cardiff.Halal is the description of food and drink allowed for Muslims under Islamic dietary laws.
On Thursday, Cardiff council debated a Plaid Cymru motion demanding schools offer a fuller range of lunches.
The motion was not carried, but an amended version was passed, calling for a report on the issue to be compiled.
Cardiff council argues it offers one of the broadest services in Wales.
The local council says it already gives its schools the option of a range of halal food.
It is then up to individual headteachers and governors to say how much they want, depending on how much pupils ask for.
This can vary between a total ban on pork in some schools to the option of halal burgers in others.
Mother Jacqueline Maria Haque said it was very important for Muslim children to have halal foods, as they can go hungry if they are not given a halal choice.
"They do give halal foods in school, but not every day - they give vegetables, which not all children like," she said.
"They would like western foods - like burgers, sausages and nuggets."
Excuse me, but aren't these people immigrants? Who are they to dictate to the majority? Why can't they just bring their own halal lunches to school? I don't understand this need for public institutions to take on additional cost and effort to appease primitive superstitions. The total ban on pork products is unacceptable. Stupid politicians. They just don't have a clue what they're doing.
In 5 years time, they'll manage to ban pork products totally in the UK. Right out of the supermarkets and butchers. I'd hate to be a pig farmer in the UK. Dead-end industry from what I can see.
Banning pork products also involves products like gelatin, etc. that are used in many other food preparations.

I agree that Muz parents are free to pack appropriate bag lunches for the little kiddies. If UK school cafeterias are anything like their American counterparts, the chow is high-fat and generally unhealthy anyway.
I remember reading about these same sorts of demands from Muz immigrants in Detroit. No pork, oh no! Mohammed Jr. might goof up and eat it. So all the American kids had their food choices diminshed.

But then a lot of that "prophet" creature's ideas came from Judaism and Christianity, to try to attract Jews and Christians to his idiotic cult. I did know that pigs today aren't as filthy as they used to be, hence there's no real, logical reason to avoid pork these days. I've heard you can get sick more often from chicken these days than pork. That tricho-something (bacteria found in pork) has been largely eliminated and the way pigs are farmed, the meat is actually quite lean and good for you. And can be served slightly pink - which you can't ever, ever do with chicken.
But then this is all modern, logical, scientifically-proven, up-to-date information, something people adhering to primitive, backward, failed cultures don't want to hear. It might mean that they actually have to think. Shock! Horror! Can't have you doing that now, can we?!
I know that many Jews don't eat pork (although most of my Jewish friends eat it), yet I've not heard of them agitating for schools to ban pork, or for special food. But then all other religions seem to go with the flow and not raise much fuss with others. Except for the Muslims. In France,gangs of young muslims have vandalized supermarkets,just because they sell pork products.
They are pressing very hard for supermarkets in muslim neighbourhoods,to adhere strictly to the halal quranic rules.

My family kept kosher when I grew up. That meant that I brought my lunch to school most days instead of buying it. If the lunch on sale was vegetarian (pizza, say), then I would buy it. At my mother's request, the school administration mailed her the menu each month so she would know when to give me a sandwich and when to give me money to buy lunch.
Was that an outrageous hardship? Did it ever occur to me or my parents to demand that the school sell only kosher meat? No, and no. BTW our school was maybe 60-70% Jewish, and maybe 5-10% of the students were Jews who kept kosher.
Note the difference between a religion that views itself as one of many ways to reach Gd, and one that views itself as a vehicle for world domination.

Recently, I met a couple form Australia who were visting here in the States.
Several years ago, while there son was in grade school,durning swimming classes one of the Muslim students said he could not get in to the swimming pool with the unclean Infidels.
Shortly ther after, the 14 muslim students and their parents ,in a school of hundreds of other non-Muslim students banded together in an attempt to pressure the school to provide seperate swimming classes for them.
Fortunately this did not come to pass,the couple stated if this happened now, there not so confident that there would be the same out come.

We had some morons in a school/parent group here in WA say that their school wasn't going to celebrate Anzac Day because it might offend some Iraqi students. The outrage that caused! Even our education minister stepped in. He said, no way. Anzac Day is Australian, it's celebrated, that's it. It wasn't even the Iraqi families who requested it, just your typical busy body types who think their everybody's social conscience.

My thoughts on John Howard - I hope to God he's re-elected. I'll be voting for him. Mark Latham of the Labor party is an inexperienced, waffling, airy-fairy nobody, who practically bankrupted a city council he headed up several years ago, who broke a taxi driver's arm a while back, and has been a foul-mouthed yob ever since. Oh, he's cleaned up his act lately, but he doesn't have me fooled. I wouldn't want such an embarrassment heading up my country. The polls show John Howard is ahead by a bit, but that changes all the time. Sometimes Latham is ahead, sometimes Howard. What amazes me is that that many people support Latham. Where's his tax policy? Where's any policy that doesn't change with the wind? Scary.
I have heard that John Howard is a good man and that he is tough on the Islamo-fascists.

The far left bunch includes Carmen Lawrence, the president of the party - she's a potential nightmare. She'd open the floodgates to an Islamic invasion we'd never recover from. And Carmen Lawrence also suffers from amnesia at convenient times.
