After making an anti-Israel video. This is a clear indication (as if one were needed) of the jihadist and totalitarian nature of the Palestinian struggle at this point: if the Druze have no grievance, they must be coerced into solidarity on the basis of pan-Arabism or pan-Islamism. GAZA CITY (CNN) -- CNN Producer Riad Ali, who was abducted at gunpoint a day earlier, was released Tuesday and was in the custody of Palestinian police.Shortly before his release, a videotape surfaced in which Ali explained he was being held by the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militant offshoot of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
On the tape, Ali explained in Arabic that he is a Druze Arab and that his father and other members of his family have served in the Israeli military.
No demands were made on the tape.
The Druze Arabs are an Arabic-speaking, non-Jewish minority in Israel. Many Druze have served in the Israeli military.
On the video, which was recorded while he was in the custody of his abductors, Ali called for the Druze not to serve in the Israeli military, saying the cause of the Druze is the same as that of Palestinians.
And wasn't that the First thing that entered my mind when he was kidnapped- he had something to do with Israel, and it was positive. Even if it is only by being related to someone else who works for Israel.
I wonder if CNN still feels it has a special relationship with those it sides with?
Of course they do, Gary....The kidnappers had to hand off a news release to CNN; since it was dinnertime, they "kidnapped" him because it was their turn to cook.
Also - be aware that while many Druze are loyal citizens of Israel, there are also some Druze who are not (likely small amount, but they are there). So it impossible to be sure which side any individual truly is on - but Israel also has reason to be concerned about Druze CNN producer who may have regular access to the Golan Heights. I am sure if it was in the USA, Americans would be plenty concerned.

Reuter's reports (27 August) that Israel has arrested a 30-year-old Druze woman from the Golan Heights village of Majdal Shams close to the Syrian-Israeli border, on suspicion of spying for Syria.

I almost went to Italy by mistake. I was on my way to Chamonix....almost missed a turn and wound up in a tunnel with a sign over it that

Actually, I was hiking for a few weeks in the much tamer Pyrenees, Andalusia, and Sierra Madre....always wanted to experience the real
American West after stomping thru bubblegum Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. Due to very hasty/bad planning...i.e. renting a car in Calais, I drove back...but made a quick to detour to check out Mt. Blanc and see the Alps. Bought a hiking map for future incentive. I saw a lot of climbers with grim, concentrated, unhappy looking faces....i guess they were draftees.

finally starting to go abroad.
But as I look back on it all....I rarely went indoors. Just never occurred to me, I guess.
