Austria: Extremist Conference Banned

This conference tried to move from Berlin to Austria; no dice. From TotallyJewish, with thanks to Twostellas:

The Austrian government has vowed it will not host an Islamic conference this weekend after organisers were banned from holding the summit by authorities in Germany.

The event, which was billed as “the first Arab Islamic congress in Europe”, attracted controversy over the call for “resistance and intifada” in Iraq and Palestine featured on its website.

The site also announced support for the “struggle against American-zionist hegemony and liberation”.

Austria’s pledge not to allow the summit came in a meeting between Rabbi Marvin Heir, founder of human rights group, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, and the country’s president, Heinz Fischer.

Austria, once described to me as probably the most scenic of Europe's lands - home to Reinhold messner, easily the greatest mountaineer ever - has shownm remarkable consistency in keeping up with germany right from the Hapsburg Empire days. When the Jews were persecuted in Germany, a parallel movement started in austria without too much of pressurising by the Reich. No wonder, once again, the Austrians have taken the lead in emulating Germany.

The Islamic congress could try Spain as a venue.

Jonny Walker,

Reinhold Messner is Italian not Austrian.
He is from Southern Tirol. That region was awarded to Italy in 1920 for switching side and stabbing Austria in the back during WWI.
And if you are so interested in RH you might have read his biography and noted that he represents the italian Eu-greens in Brussels.

JW:"No wonder, once again, the Austrians have taken the lead in emulating Germany."

Wasn't Hitler, a native Austrian, the Fuehrer of Germany. So who was leading whom on that one.

Look at today's situation, Germany has been firmly in socialist/green hand while Austria has been boycotted by the EU-PC-mafia for having a democratically elected government from the centre right.

So, it look to be that Austria does have quite an independent political direction. And I can tell you that many Germans I meet lament the fact that they don't have a Joerg Haider.

Raven_ -- nice work fact checking. CBS is currently hiring.

Does is come as any surprise that the Islamic Conference would be opposed to liberation?

{The site also announced support for the “struggle against American-zionist hegemony and liberation”.}

Is that support for liberation or support for the struggle against American-zionist liberation? When in doubt go with the gut. Against Freedom.

Mullah_Nathan -- You forgot the payment of a stipend and expenses. (Boo, sad!)
