Dhaka (AsiaNews/Ucan) -- A Bangladeshi Christian doctor who converted from Islam 15 years ago has been killed by men local media described as militants.The Bengali daily newspaper "Janakantha" reported that "Islamic warriors" killed Doctor Gani Mondol on the night of Sept. 18 as he was walking home from work in Jamalpur district, 140 kilometers north of Dhaka. The daily mentioned that local people cited the manner in which Mondol was slain -- his throat was slit -- as consistent with the way the "warriors" operate.
Mondol was buried two days earlier; a Protestant pastor conducted the funeral rites and burial, attended also by Muslims.
Some local Muslims did not take kindly to his conversion 15 years ago, and that they had been spreading rumors about him. However, she reported that Mondol's two elder brothers, both Muslims, maintained good relations with him.
The government doctor embraced Christianity through affiliation with the Baptist Church, but also has associated with the Catholic Church in recent years. She explained that his relations with both Protestant and Catholic Churches enabled him to serve local people through Church relief and social projects.

Reminds me of the story of a Muslim lady doctor in Bangladesh that became an atheist and wrote a book called "Shame" about the persecutions of a Hindu family in Bangladesh... she got herself a nice fatwa and had to flee to Norway. (Where it looks like Islam will soon catch up with her.)
Anyway, Bangladesh is one of the most impoverished, disease-ridden hellholes in the world. It's easy to imagine that for every doctor that leaves (or is killed) a hundred, or maybe a thousand more children won't have access to medical care. But of course, the most important thing is to expand Islam or punish the people despised by Allah.
Speaking of Bangladesh, I was recently reading a book about Quantum Theory and there was a section about Dr. Bose, a collarborator with Einstein... when Einstein read a paper Bose wrote, he was so impressed that he (E) arranged to have him (B) come to Germany to work with him (E). He is the Bose in the "Bose-Einstein Equations" and the Bose in "Bosons" for you science-minded people. Anyway Bose went to college at the University of Dakka under British occupation (omigod!) I wonder if the University of Dacca has produced any minds as great as that of Dr. Bose since partition? Somehow I suspect not.

The lady's name is Taslima Nasreen (or Nasrin -- it is spelled both ways.) She is very famous in the Islamic dissident world. If you google her name you can find lots of information about her.
Yes kj, Taslima Nasreen wrote 'Lajja' was hounded, fatwad and forced into exile in Norway where after a few years she apparently pined to return home to her bengali culture but India's West Bengal state (The Hindu half of pre-partition Bengal) is ruled by marxists who're hand in glove with islamists and India couldn't guarantee her safety in Calcutta.
About Dr. Bose, yes a Hindu born in then East bengal and a great mind indeed. Speaking of scientific geniuses from the moslem world, Dr. Abdus Sattar is the only moslem ever to win a Physics Nobel prize (he shared it with 2 others) but he cannot return to his native pakistan because he's an Ahmediya and considered non-muslim in Pakistan where hecould be arrested and jailed under thatr country's draconian blashphemy laws and the repugnant Hudood ordinances.
The left's alliance with Islamists shows that they learned absolutely nothing from the fate of the Iranian Marxists that supported Khomeini's rise to power.
Maybe given more publicity to the Marxists and ex-Marxists that survived Iran's bloodbath of the early 80's could wise up a significant amount of terrorism's biggest non-Muslim enablers.
