BESLAN, Russia (CNN) -- A suspect in the bloody school siege that left more than 330 people dead, nearly half of them children, said Monday the hostage-takers were ordered to seize the school to "start a war across the Caucasus."Appearing on Russian state television, the unidentified man said the attack was ordered by Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov and Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev.
Here is a message from Basayev, full of jihadist language and goals, that we posted here last January.
"They gathered us in the woods and 'The Colonel' said that we should take over a school in Beslan. That was our order," he said."When we asked why we were doing this, what our goal was, 'The Colonel' answered us, 'Because we need to start a war across the Caucasus."
He said the hostage-takers included Uzbeks, Arabs and Chechens.
The video also showed investigators displaying weapons confiscated in their search of the wrecked and bombed out school.
The suspect earlier had said he did not fire a shot inside the school and that he "pitied the children" who were taken captive.
"Of course I pitied the children, I swear to Allah. I have children myself. I didn't shoot. I swear to Allah," he said. "I don't want to die. I swear to Allah, I want to live."

Seems simple to me: They are incouraged to lie, a tenet of the religion itself, so nothing he says should be considered the truth.

Those caught aiding and abetting such behavior should be expelled from their host countries, with a loss of any citizenship, for obviously traitorous activities. Close relations of people convicted should be carefully watched. Any type of institution, religious or otherwise, that avocates terrorism, should be shut down. News organizations that aid terrorists should be fined a percentage of income as a tax toward defraying the costs of terrorism. They can report it, but they pay for it. How often have you seen staged incidents being broadcast, do you think? This would discourage trying to profit on the blood and misery of those victims whose lives have been shattered. The first ammendment is not an absolute right. Society has the right to discourage reporting that is a threat to its existance. You could argue that many news reports are terrorist acts themselves. - Getting it reported is part of the rational for doing these acts in the first place. Lastly, anyone who can legally carry a firearm should do so. And if you cannot - then you should fight for the right to do so. It is a citizens duty for the preservation of our western society. Good, honest, trustworthy armed citizens stop thousands of crimes in the United States every year. The rest of you need to get on board as well - What is your excuse for letting others have the responsibility for protecting your family?
