Cardinal: Terrorism is the fourth world war

An astounding assessment from the Cardinal who protested the U.S. treatment of Saddam Hussein. From Reuters, with thanks to Grigory Rasputin:

"We have entered the Fourth World War," said Cardinal Renato Martino, head of the Vatican's Council for Justice and Peace, saying he believed that the Cold War was World War 3.

"I believe that we are in the midst of another world war," he said in comments published in Italian newspapers on Tuesday.

"And it involves absolutely everyone because we don't know what will happen when we leave a hotel, when we get on a bus, when we go into a coffee bar. War itself is sitting down right next to each and every one of us," he said.

"Every state has to put in place the best possible policing method and this, naturally, might affect some personal freedoms. States have to carry out a defensive policy," he said.

I was beginning to despair for the Vatican. Common sense is finally beginning to filter in? I hope so. The Vatican is one of the biggest voices out there in the world.

Meglio tarde che mai.

There is, in fact, no contradiction between putting in a word for Saddam Hussein and this statement. The Vatican wants to protect the position of Christians, who live in a state of permanent insecurity wherever, in the Dar al-Islam, they live. Saddam Hussein regarded the mosques as rival sources of political power. As a consequence, he was -- in Iraqi terms -- less of a threat to the Christians, and of course he knew that they were no threat to him.

Similar considerations make the Alawite military rulers in Syria the guarantee, paradoxically, of the safety of Christians. For the Alawite villages, with their pictures of the Madonna outside every door, are not regared by Muslims as being peopled by real Muslims. Should the Alawite officer corps falter, and the "real Muslims" take power, the Christians -- including the Armenians in Haleb and elsewhere -- will be in trouble. That may explain why it is necessary to deprive Syria of any major weaponry, including missiles and its air force, to force it to stop meddling in Iraq, and stop supporting Hezbollah -- but why it may also be possible to make the Alawaites a deal -- your wings beyond Syria will be permanently clipped, but we will not so harm you as to leave you naked to your Muslim enemies within Syria, who will not be kind. Hafez al-Assad understood this better than his son. Oh, and no more cooperation with Iran --your horizons must now extend only to the borders of Syria. Because if you don't cooperate, such damage will be inflicted on you that the Alawite rule will come to an end, and you know what that means for your villages, for your families, for you. The Muslims are lying in wait. We don't want to throw to the wolves, but if you persist in your folly, we will.

Your choice, Alawites.

In any case, solicitude for Near Eastern Christians is what explains the solicitude for Saddam Hussein by Cardinal Martino. Perhaps, as the Vatican senses that the Christian influence on Europe may be permanently displaced, and Europe itself disappear to be replaced by Eurabia, it is time to worry less about the Christians of the Near East, and more about the survival of Christianity in Europe itself, and elsewhere. One would have to read the whole speech to see.

Tardi. Oops.

I'm not the only one who's stated this before, but the Cardinal's remarks illustrate the importance of arming yourself. Get a gun, take a firearms course, get your concealed weapons permit and take responsibility for your security. The enemy is in our midst.
Lock and load.

Cardinal Martino's truthful comments are a great
improvement on those yesterday of No Balls NitWit
Archbishop of Canterbury. Yes, Friends, we're in
World War 4. Arm yourselves!

The opening salvos of WWIV were decades ago, yet no one noticed. Now that the war is beginning in earnest, few want to acknowledge that we are at war. But as they finally have, who will tell the people so that THEY will come to this realization and finally get serious?

It's up to us, epg - we're aware of the threat and what it constitutes. Spread the word.

Hugh, I am agree with you, for this reason I think that attack Siria isn“t a gooo idea, is better attack the worst of the classrom, namely, Iran, I think that Iran had to have the first attacked and not Iraq.
The Vatican is saying a double language, peace but few to few criticise islam, is very similar when Bush say days later of 9/11 that Islam is peace, greetings

The cardinal`s comments are a good start,by no means, but i`m disappointed he didn`t specifically name who the enemy was....ISLAM.

If this WWIV is with Islam then it started 1400 years ago.

"Martino, who served for many years as Pope John Paul's ambassador to the United Nations, was opposed to the war in Iraq and last year criticised the United States treatment of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein after his capture.

Martino said at the time that US forces had treated Saddam "like a cow".

Very interesting indeed!

Has the Vatican not appeased the islamic beast set up the destruction of any semblence of a once "Christian" Eurpoe.

Is the Vatican just now come to grips with the realization that they have no future in an "islamic Europe" hoped for by some?

The Vatican is a master of survival, but now it seems, they are sensing their mortality. Begs the question, "WHY?"

The statements attributed to the Vatican in this account, are significant and portend a future that is apparently ill-omened at best.

In this case, what is BAD news for the Vatican -- is BAD news for the rest of us.

Meanwhile, Bush is trying to "negotiate" and "appease" the islamic enemy (while Putin is rejecting such an ill-conceived notion and asking Isreal for tactical help in fighting the islamists -- isn't that a scream?)

For this, Bush is a fool and no better than his rival Kerry in my estimation. But more significantly, the islamist enemy has the same estimation of Bush for the same reasons. They rejoice - I get cranky.

The Vatican has it right (its about time) on this call. Hopefully, Bush will snap out of his PC stupor (or whatever ails him) and let the troops take care of business before we all have our asses raised in the air five times a day!

World War III has not begun yet. There is no pan-kafir-ism yet as there is pan-islamism. The conflicts are still localized to a large extent - atleast in the eyes of the kafirs. Islam can still be reformed but time is running out. The first step would be to disband the OIC and Islamic republics need to drop the word Islamic and become just republic. If secularism is good when muslims are in minority, then secularism is good when they are in majority. If the world war III does break out, it will be extremely painful for every one involved but Islamic republics will feel it most acutely. In the end, kufr will win because rationalism is superior than the immutable word of Allah - Koran.

What I want is for the UN to make ISLAMISM ILLEGAL...instead of declaring as it just did today that the Colaitions invasion of Iraq was illegal. SO i guess if the US went in to save the sudanese in darfur NOW it would be ILLEGAL even AFTER GENOCIDE HAS BEEN PROVEN AND THE UN REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING....thanks to all the arab league bastards votes in the UN!!! The UN seems to be nothing more than the attitudes of its constituents. And that is the problem... too many of the UN's constituents are brutal dictatorships. We need a United Democracies...not a United Thugocracies...dicatorships DON'T have the RIGHT to vote on human rights matters...the UN is beginning to act more like the LEAGUE OF NATIONS EVERY DAY WHEN WE REALLY NEED IT TO FACE A GLOBAL THREAT.

"What?" the UN screams. "The US stoped the raping, genocide and massacres, tortures in Iraq?..AN OUTRAGE WE SAY!!!!!! AN OUTRAGE!!!!!! you have to follow the rules you know...after all if you follow all the UN rules everyone will then get tortured and exterminated eventually while we smuggly drink our lattes and stroke our goate beards looking out from our trotsky spectacles. Then with everyone dead there is no problem..seee!!! Our way is so superior. Hmmmm....I love drinkning lattes and relaxing in the UN committees while all those people get liquidated. Drinking with my human rights defenders...you know the representatives from Sudan, Iran and the like...so many of them. Is with voters like these we get such wonderful efffective resolutions/LAWS EVERY TIME!!!!!"

Atleast the Vatican is starting to do something...i guess their knowledge of islamist theology is serving them well to understand the threat...I guess they would say more if they knew they wouldnt get sued for billions by irrate muslim fundi's... BLOODY POLITICALLY CORRECT INSPIRED LAWS AGAIN.

Mr OLL r us said "What I want is for the UN to make ISLAMISM ILLEGAL"...

LOOOOOOOOL, I did have a good laugh at that. Exactly the sort of thing that civil liberties woudl have field day with. This is just so much hog wash.

Who are you to try and make illegal the fastest growing religion in the world. Whay is Allah (swt) so popular?

Watch out R-us, your frustration and anger is shining through!

There is nothing you can do to ban Islam...period! get used to it.

Koran: if we were to distill the message written in this book to only one word, I believe the word would be FEAR.

Bible: if we were to distill the message in this book to only one word, it would be LOVE.

Those following the Koran are proud that they do not revere life, nor love, or even "learn to love" the "prickly" folk that are not like them. Instead, they follow a false & weak Allah, who uses puny humans to kill innocents, and in return are assured "salvation?" -- a salvation filled with false lust? Those who know the truth fear for the followers of Allah upon their death, for Hell follows such teachings.

Those following the Bible, learn of the 400+ Old Testament promises of a coming savior, the blueprint plan for our salvation, through His blood we are saved, are healed, have our hope. Because we are forgiven by grace, we can forgive.
Jesus Christ, Yeshuah the Messiah. Part of the plan. Amazing grace.

Naseem:

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world because you people breed like rabbits. Hopefully, when WWIV breaks out into a full scale "shooting war", we will do something about your population growth rates. "Women and children first", if you get my drift!

I guess you are right Naseem..one can only dream that all the evil ideologies like communism, fascism/nazism and Islamism was banned. You could call me a dreamer. However I am also frustrated becuase the islamist ideology you love so much is BUTCHERING PEOPLE and making a basket case of whatever country it is prevelant in. However if you are not fazed with the mass murder being committted directly due to Islamism then you are a sorry state for a human being... I guess I will let you go on and dream of the hell on earth you will enjoy if Islamism gets a hold in the world. You fundi's really like hell on earth don't you. Banning Islamism would be the best advancement to the Human race in a very long time. SO tell me when do you want to live Taliban style Naseem? Why live here when you can enjoy the dark ages in Talibanland or Iran. Go there and see your (year zero) future for yourself.

Until all of Europe, Asia, and Both continents of the Americas declare islamic terrorism as their true enemy, and realise that we all need to team up together to erase it from existence, and the vast majority of the people of western countries bury their overly-PC madness/morals and get behind the forces of good will, WW3 (or 4 looking at it the Cardinals way) will not be fully underway.

We are at the beggining of the road to that time!!!

Terrorism, from a tactical point of view, is counterproductive in winning ww4 for islam.

Thus, for the west, suppressing terrorism is counterproductive.

The west is most at risk with a strategy targeted at the essence of democracy, that is: the majority rules.

That is the real threat. So these gradually escalating skirmishes, while bloody, are a winning strategy for the west.

naseem,

Why won't you answer me? You have nothing to be AFRAID of. I want to meet you face to face. When will you be in Britain again? You pick the place and the time. Just a chat.

Raven~ that is interesting. Can we get you to expound on that a bit further?

Yahudi~ I'd like to meet you someday, too. You sound quite interesting.
With my wife of course, as I'd like to take her to England. There's a certain theatre carved into to the cliffs south of Land's End I want to take her to. Can you hang on a few more years? *s*

Naseem! We can make a foursome!

Gary,

My traveling days are, for age and health reasons, rather limited - I truly must use discretion these days, too many medications, doctor visits, cemeteries to remember. But I will absolutely travel to the ends of the earth to help in the fight so that we don't have to witness the end of the earth. The time is NOW. at least, and at last, for me.

NASEEM,

WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER ME? YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF. I WANT TO MEET YOU FACE TO FACE. WHEN WILL YOU BE IN BRITAIN AGAIN? YOU PICK THE PLACE AND THE TIME. JUST A CHAT.

All caps this time. Maybe he/she is blind in more ways than one.

If this is the beginning at long last for us to begin meeting, I suggest we start by deciding on cities within regions so it comes to something convenient and probable. As you must be aware, for the hundred registered writers on this site, there are more unregistered readers who, like me, come here daily and read every word with rapt attention. I have to admit I've been disappointed so far in the lack of organization showing; but recently I've come to think that's slowly changing for the better. I think that's likely the case for others who silently watch and wait. If this is the beginning of that solid change, I'll do my part, whatever that can be, to arrange a meeting in the U.S. northwest.

Gary,

As you request, let me try to expand on my point at the risk of over-explaining.

Point I:
The cardinal talks about the war on terrorism being ww4. This is focusing on the wrong threat. Terrorism is a symptom or tactical response of a broader struggle of values and influence.
So why do we use the wrong language?- Even Busch uses it. We'll that's because of the PC-mafia. Fine, no problem as long as we understand each other, and as long as we don't take it literally.

Point II:
A pre-enlightenment ideology like islam that can mobilise and motivate individuals within a flat organisational structure, like islam can, is a threat to wester culture.

Point III:
Terrorism kills people and cause wester society to respond with:
* tightening security
* reducing civil liberties

Currently, due to the very things that make wester culture/values worth defending, we reduce civil liberties in a 'non-discriminatory way'. That is, we are still reluctant/unwilling to profile or write laws (or constitutional changes) based on 'ideology'. This is especially so if the 'ideology' is a religion.

Point IV:
If you want to win a war you need to pick where and when you fight and when you show your hand.
The overeagerness of islamic-fundamendalists finding expression in terrorism which in turn is gradually radicalising non-islamics people into internalising the equation
islam ('the most peaceful religion') = evil ideology

A dirty bomb, poisoned water supply, plane into nuclear reactor, or similar will force islams key ally, the PC-mafia, to be fatally weakened.

Remember Pearl Harbour? Well, 9/11 is good enough to engage with Afghanistan and Iraq but it is not enough to get Moody to downgrade islam from Religion to fanatical ideology.

The next tactical mistake could well be decisive.

Raven~ I know this thread is buried deep, but I hope you see this. Thanks for the detail! I like.
