The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted with outrage on Saturday.
"Mr. Bot's elaborations are an absolute contrast with the wide international support and solidarity with Russia in these tragic days," the ministry statement said.
"Inappropriate statements by the Dutch minister look odious ... and blasphemous," it added. "We expect explanations from the Dutch side."

Suppose this hostage crisis had happened in the EU heartland (i.e. Germany or france) and suppose by some quirk of fortune, some jihadis were actually apprehended by the authorities....what happnes next? If the terror we saw in Russia is indeed international in character, i.e. engaged by arabs and al-qaida, then I don't really see political initiatives ending violence.
History shows repeatedly that once the jehadis taste blood (for e.g. abu sayyaf in southern philipines, Indian Kashmir, Ambon city, Nigeria, Pakistan, Chechenya, Algeria etc) the resulting bloodshed is yet to to be stopped by any means used thus far.
No state has yet successfully combatted and downed the scourge of jehadi terror. Will Russia be the first? I hope so but am not counting on it.

It followed up this “coverage” with a story slamming President Vladimir Putin, dwelling on “a record of bungled Russian rescue-bids”, during which segment there slipped out a half-second, tangential reference to ARABS among the “suspected Chechen fighters” at Beslan, which - typically - the SBS voice-over immediately discarded with the haughtiest, denunciatory sniff.
In routine compliance with what looks uncannily like its Editorial Department’s standard, classic “Pravda”-esque operating-procedures - seeking NEVER to link them to the mortal enemies of the USA, its Allies and the West in general, in this mistitled “War on Terror” - SBS then omitted the following footage of Mr Putin next openly naming the Jihadis, who were truly responsible for this atrocity, as “International Terrorists”. (This clip WAS carried on BBC, that Ol’ Grand Mistress of Spin, in ONE of its bulletins anyway - probably inadvertently.)
In Western countries, gradually, over the previous three decades or so, Leftists have insidiously come to dominate the press, academia, the arts, entertainment, many professions, the public sector, inter alia.
