But since one cannot by any means screen out the jihadists from the moderate Muslims, and the moderates are not helping identify the jihadists either, what choice did the Poles have?
It might not be too long before they will have to turn away entrants from Scandinavia and France as well.

yet other books on "peaceful Islam" were freely available.
I leant my amazon copy to a christian maronite who lost most of his family to arafat's PLO.

But those who are the Quislings of Eurabia -- Solana, Prodi, Patten, Chirac, D. de V., and so on -- need to be exposed, mocked, abandoned. The danger that Islam poses to free thought and free inquiry, and therefore to science, and to artistic creation, and the fact that it remains a Total Explanation of the Universe and therefore, among dogmatisms, by far the most complete and dangerous (the fact that some Believers are ignorant of, or ignore some of its tenets, is no consolation -- for potentially, they could at any time accept all of them).
Those who want "greater cooperation" with Europe should make clear that they do not intend to embrace European appeasement, but to appeal to those in Europe looking for someone to articulate the problem. The problem is not that people "yearn for democracy" in the Middle East. Some do, some don't. So what? The problem for the Infidel world is Islam, and the main field of struggle, right now, is Western Europe. Why should the new nations of the EU, why should Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, for example, pay for the misjudgements and cupidity of the French elite, that having allowed in millions of Muslims, having established the Euro-Arab Dialogue for all sorts of reasons (while the French people as a whole have suffered, many Frenchmen, Chirac included, have personally made off like gangbusters)? Europe must be rescued -- saved in spite of itself, in spite of the Euro-Arab Dialogue and all the rest of it, so brilliantly and indispensably analyzed by Bat Ye'or.There is still time; nothing is inevitable. But there has to be clarity. It is not "terrorism" but Jihad, in all of its instruments, that is the problem, and every single one of those instruments -- the weapon of "wealth," the weapon of "pen, speech" (propaganda, Da'wa), and the new, 20th century weapon of demographic conquest from within, have to be recognized, and dealt with, not one by one but simultaneously. We will say and do what we must to do away with the Islamic cult. You'd better get used to that. They and Chirac, with the blessing of Prodi, got stuck into the democratically elected government of Austria and applied sanctions.
Austria twice had the muslim hoards at its doorstep. Had the Ottoman empire been able to run over Vienna, Eurabia would have been a reality a long time ago.
Schroeder together with Chirac where key in undermining the sanctions on Iraq. So lets understand this. Germany and France are against sanctions on dictator Saddam but are for applying sanctions to a freshly democratically elected government of Austria for what that government might do.
The actions of the same duo of Chirac and Schroeder where key in undermining the ultimatum by Bush for Saddam. Remember they where systematically undermining the sanctions, both practically and politically. This gave Saddam, at the eleventh hour, a false sense of security that the will of the west is buckling. In that eleventh hour, Fisher was claiming that there was no need to invade Iraq since the sanctions where doing their job. The same sanctions that Germany and an out of control UN was systematically undermining.

Hugh is right in his analysis. Unless the European people across the political specter finally start to openly discuss the Islamic threat in Europe, Fascists are going to win more and more votes. For now, this discussion remains marginal in some European countries and nonexistent in others (at least if warnings for Islamophobia do not count as a real discussion on the issue). It is still a public and political suicide to try to discuss Islamic fundamentalism in many European countries (or if you still do try it, even in a totally PC and explicitly anti-racist manner, your pieces just won't be published). The "experts" who are allowed to write on Islam in European mainstream media are those who propose the enlargment of EU to include not just Turkey but to North Africa down to the Saharan desert, or praise the Iranian mullahocracy as an alternative form of democracy (honest, I am not making this up!)
Eastern Europe is different, though. There are practically no Muslims there, yet (though they are making their entrance already). Given their history, I bet Eastern Europeans will be quicker to realize what's going on than the West. They have just got out of one totalitarianism and are not eager to enter another right away. Also, Eastern Europe is less PC and less anti-American than Western Europe and Scandinavia. So the Polish refusal to accept jihadists was hardly accidental. There, the politicians probably won't be attacked by their people for such "islamophobic" move.

But the notion, expressed by one poster, that it is outrageous for anyone to suggest that it is dangerous for any European country, given the EU (where inhabitants of one member-state can move freely, and live anywhere, within the community), to admit further Muslims, is bizarre. Surely the primary duty of the still existing European nation-states is to preserve the safety of its own people and of their civilization, not to accomodate those who do not wish any Infidel people or polity well.
In Sweden, the most important force among the Iranians in exile is Communism, or the Iranian version, the Tudeh Party. Elsewhere, it may be those working for a restoration of the Pahlavi monarchy. And if, unbelievably but quite possibly, Zoroastrianism could make a comeback among those who realize that Islam is the immutable problem, but that some other belief-system, one sanctified by its venerable origins as the original religion of Iran, subject after the defeat of the Persians by the Arabs at Qadissiya to slow asphyxiation. Surely the Iranians are beginning to realize that this religion of their ancestors would serve them better than the Total Explanation of the Universe that is Islam, that Arab import, that has done them no good. Indeed, everything that Persian Islamic civilization can be proudest of -- Sa'adi, Firdowsi, Omar Khayyam, Indo-Persian miniatures -- were written or painted in a spirit inimical to Islam and to the Arabs. Unlike the Pakistanis, who have Islam and only Islam, the Persians -- like the Kurds and the Berbers but more so -- have something else with which to anchor their identity. The ineffective "moderation" of Khatami did not work. The Shirin "Islam-has-nothing-to-do-with-the-mistreatment-of-women" Ebadi of the Islam-is-fine-but-has-just-been-misinterpreted school of preposterous thought, is also no longer to be taken seriously. It may be the only way out for Iran -- finally to throw off the mental yoke first put upon it by the Arabs some 1350 years ago, and renewed twenty-five years ago, by Khomeini, again with a good deal of Arab (chiefly PLO) help. Iran's population deserves better.

Some in Europe are waking up. The dhimmi BBC recently ran a programme "exposing" the "rascism" and anti-Islamic views of the British National Party. The idea was to discredit the BNP and weaken it's anti-Islamic stance - in fact the opposite has happened . Since the BBC programme the BNP has won two local by-elections with a massive 50% of the vote in both counts. Both elections were in areas with large muslim populations (Yorkshire and East london) . Quite how the political and media elite will deal with these votes is anyone's guess. I'm guessing they're pretty rattled - the British people were told how to vote but have ignored the powers-that-be and followed their hearts. Despite the tiny lunatic fringe of the BNP and their anti-semtism there is no way the BNP or their hundreds of thousands of voters will be doing any aligning with Islam.

Actually, Irini, its a matter of freedom of speech, something the Muslim world is sadly lacking. That is how they dare. As for the holocaust, I would point out that the hard core of the Nazi movement were primarily occultists / pagans and that, within the various foreign legions of the SS, there was at least one formation of Bosnian Muslims or regimental size or larger. Just so you know, the Muslim world has their own slice of the Holocaust...
