MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that mid-level officials in the U.S. government were undermining his country's war on terrorism by supporting Chechen separatists, whom he compared to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden....But Putin said each time Russia complained to the Bush administration about meetings held between U.S. officials and Chechen separatist representatives, the U.S. response has been "we'll get back to you" or "we reserve the right to talk with anyone we want."
Putin blamed what he called a "Cold War mentality" on the part of some U.S. officials, but likened their demands that Russia negotiate with the Chechen separatists to the U.S. talking to al Qaeda.
These are not "freedom fighters," Putin said. "Would you talk with Osama Bin Laden?" he asked.
Putin said the Chechen separatists are trying to ignite ethnic tensions in the former Soviet Union and it could have severe repercussions.
"Osama Bin Laden attacked the United States saying he was doing it because of policies in the Middle East," Putin said. "Do you call him a freedom fighter?"
Putin's comments came a few weeks after the U.S. granted asylum to Ilias Akhmadov, the "foreign minister" of the Chechen separatist movement.
Of course, this should work both ways: Putin and the Russians should realize that the same enemy also exists in Iran and Iraq, and stop aiding the enemies of America there. (Thanks to "Allah" for the links.)

Good job Mr Putin. Russia should be the key ally on the war on terror and not Pakistan. Fight your terrorists and be dhimmi towards other people's terrorists is a universal attitude and we need no single out just the Americans.

I am a bit mystified by why Putin would be sparring with the US after these attacks. It has got to be posturing by our State Department to provide an incentive for Russia to cease their arms and technology dealings with countries like Iran and Syria which are causing problems for the US in the Middle East. It is time both coutries (US and Russia) put aside their suspicions of each other and start seriously working together at least long enough to snuff out these Islamofascist bastards. We worked as allies to defeat Hitler and we should be doing the same thing now. One good place to start would be for Russia to cease their support for Iran's nuclear program, and the US to stop legitimizing the Chechen rebels by engaging in talks with them.

Notwithstanding, these major theatres of the “War on Terror” (WWIV!), and the rest of them - spread over three continents (in the main) - are each the result of the callous machinations of a loose confederacy of international, trans-national, regional and local Terrorists, united in a common “Grand Vision” and sharing a dogma of ultra-violence, both of which are every bit as ruthlessly Totalitarian as the 20th Century’s Nazi and Communist horrors: Islamo-fascism/Jihadism.
However, aside from their tight ideological and geostrategic correspondence and co-ordination, the highly decentralized syndicates in the terror-ring operate individually with a great degree of independence and minimal contact, with every cell having a maximum of autonomy.

Tonight, though, it looks like Russia’s crossing, grimly, into the camp of the USA, vis-à-vis the combating Islamo-fascist/Jihadi Terrorism - probably a superlatively wise move. Good progress in securing Russia could be the ticket to turn even France & Germany around in time in this War, scuttling the Islamo-fascists’ dream of taking over Europe, to use it as another stepping-stone in their murderous cult’s plot to eventually subjugate the planet to their darkness forever.
In the end, all working together, or in “coalitions”, or even (sadly) singly, the key thing for the West to hang onto at this point is what General Douglas MacArthur once said: “THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VICTORY”.
