A reporter of Sky News announced that a crowd kicked and tore his body apart in front of the building. Russian militants are afraid to get the terrorists put of the building because people might lynch them.
I'm not surprised as taking a school and killing children is a heinous act. People are also tired of Islamic terrorists who have absolutely no honor or decency.I noticed that the US media has referred to the terrorists in Russia as Islamic terrorists rather then Cheynean rebels as was the case prior to this incident.

As a life-long liberal and resident of the Deep South, this is the first time I've ever read about a lynching... and shook my head in agreement.
I wouldn't be the least bit dismayed if a rioting mob got to the jail where these murderous will be held and enacted a little "vigilante justice." I just hope that the police/soldiers/brig guards aren't willing to put themselves in harm's way or hurt any of the innocent.

Retired Canadian general Lew MacKenzie was quoted by the author, the spouse of some military or foreign affairs type who was there during the period, being concerned that NATO may have ended up helping the wrong side (or less wrong side, perhaps -- the Serbs were engaged in some pretty ugly activities, themselves).

Duma may impose restrictions to ensure citizens' security

I think what we are seeing, are coordinated attacks around the world, aimed at creating an "armageddon" situation with regards to Islam and the rest of the world.

Vigilante activity increases when the power to enforce the law that the citizens have granted to government is deemed ineffective by the citizens. They then take matters into their own hands.
Our own government has numerous failings in its obligation to enforce good laws, such as border security. We already read about unrest among some citizens about that problem.
The punishment by Russian citizens of the terrorist is another, more visible example of vigilante action. Bit by bit, if the legally instituted governments of the world don't "get real" about the threat of Islam, and act to protect the citizens against it, this sort of activity will become far more widespread.
Unfortunately, it won't only be the guilty who get swept up in it; all kinds of people who aren't liked, but who don't violate anyone's rights, will suffer too.

It seems to me that the whole issue here has got very much polarized to extent that there is only one acceptable truth, which to me, represents the ultimate irony the whole forum being part of so called "free world".

Civilians are arrested to be used as means for ransom and if not paid, killed. Families are forced to pay for the bodies if they want to have funeral, soldiers rape women, torture prisoners etc. Years of oppression and dispair creates perfect soil for fundamentalists to turn the war that started as independence struggle into full blown jihad.
And it should be remembered that there are various groups involved in Chechnya conflict, including among others, russian military, original separatist guerillas, civilians, criminal organizations, the fundamentalist guerillas and so fort. Needless to say, not all them are fighting parties but through different liasons they contribute to various difficulties present at the area.

Regarding the issue of Chechan separatism, however, the issue is one of WHY the Chechans feel they need to be a separate nation. Are they truly being so oppressed by the Russians that a seccession is the only answer? Does the world really need another independent Islamic state?
Actually, Chechnya was during soviet era part of autonomous Chechen-Ingush Region. This continued so even though during WWII region collabarated with Germany causing mass deportations after war as punishmen. Situation was restored around 1956 and the autonomous status was valid up until Soviet Unions breakage 1991.
During the disintagration the Ingushetia was granted sovereingty (1992). Chechnyans formed their own goverment, although weak, in attempt to gain independence, but Russia would not have that. Led by separatist president Dzhokhar Dudayev Chechnya ended up in collision course with Russia, which escalated 1994 when Russia sent troops to Grozny. The separatists were driven to mountains while large parts of Chechnya was devasted.
And about the question of having another islamic state? Yet again there's grim irony involved, since before the final 1994 intervention, even with problems in Dudayevs goverment, the fundamentalist element remained very much marginalized. Here a link on the subject:

Okay, so there are some reasonable people here. Obviously, there's no excuse or any question of condoning the murder of innocent children, or for that matter anyone else...despite the additional horror of the victims being children, one life is as valuable as another.
However it seems that a large proportion of people see these deranged acts in a vacuum, rather than having been incubated for years, decades, etc. and then believe that a World wide Islamic jihad has sprung up for no reason.
I have to pull up Kafira on a couple of things.
First. Figures of up to 80,000 Chechyans, most noncombatants, killed in the post Soviet wars is not nothing. And I can't stand or fathom this attitude that has taken root which says that if innocent people die during a war, or civil war( which I don't think the Chechnya conflict is) than this is somehow excusable. Its not. Even more so when its an unnecessary war.
Secondly, Kafira questions the need for Chechnyan independence and whether they are really that oppressed. Going by that thinking, did the East Timorese really need independence? Should Tibet not accept Chinese rule. For that matter, did America really need Independence from Britain?? After all the British weren't that oppressive.
If enough people really feel they should be independent and feel themselves to be a seperate people, then why shouldn't this be allowed?
As for another Islamic State? Its debatable whether such a thing exists now, but why not?If you tried to be nice to them, who knows?
