I don't see the oil issue as a major problem for me,if you reflect on history you'll see that
the price of filling your gastank hasn't change
too much.
I drove a V8 Tbird and although it was cheaper to fill it back then I also got 1/4 the fuel milage,I then had a V8 Mustang that got better milage but the gas prices went up,I then bought
a 4 cylinder Honda Civic but again the gas price climbed.
My point is that as fuel prices go up cars are forced to get better milage to stablize the yearly costs,the hybrids are part of the "Chicken or Egg" arguement.
Does the price drive the market to produce better cars,or do the oil companies know hybrids will allow increases to maintain the profit margins.
Even if hybrids came down to about 25,000 dollars and got 100 MPG the net gain will be pretty well zero.The TV goes back to about 1928,New Jersey was one of the first states to get a station,but who would buy a TV at that cost and when only one channel is transmitting.
The TV came down in price and then along came Color sets and then cable Tv,now you need a pay TV system even if the TV's are much lower.
Radio is going digital and satellite based,the profit margin can drive the product or price,pick one,cars come down in price,gas goes up,hybrids come down,gas goes higher,car insurance goes up,cars get build to reduce collision repairs.

Even in the hardest of hard sciences such as Physics, there has been a huge dumbing down in the standard of the material that is taught and tested. It is for this reason that so many of the brightest PhDs in UK and the US are from China and India. In fact without these young minds, research in the UK and the US would come to a peremptory halt.
Now to global warming. This is one of those topics, which really are not in the realms of science but politics or religion. One believes what one what one wants to believe. There are equally good arguments and evidence that indicate that far from global warming, the planet is actually cooling down. Either way, the effect of the sun and cloud formation plays so huge a part in climate that whatever man maybe doing at the moment, is below the noise floor and as such not measurable.
However, if one wishes to lock the anti-Jihad to a movement seen as 'cool', such environmentalism, then I would go along with the idea. Anything but anything to defeat and discredit this scourge on humanity that is Islam. In fact as Islamic countries are indolent and apathetic and as such socially and technically backward, they are the most inefficient users of energy. Where Islam goes, deserts are sure to follow. Thus destruction of Islam is good for the environment.
