Some interesting material from today's State Department briefing:

And also, with respect to terrorism, of course there was this Gaza raid on the training field against Hamas, and yet I don't know whether Hezbollah and Hamas are considered terrorist groups by the U.S.MR. BOUCHER: Yeah, absolutely, they are.
QUESTION: But Foreign Minister Qurei says that --
QUESTION: Prime Minister --
QUESTION: -- they're justified, meaning the Palestinian Authority, in a counterattack against Israel. How do you, then, settle the situation? Are the terrorist groups becoming the PA, or are the PA becoming the terrorist groups?
MR. BOUCHER: All right, let's see. We took a long route to get there, but if I understand the question, it's about remarks attributed to Prime Minister Qurei of the Palestinian Authority.
At this point, we're still trying to chase down the remarks and see what he actually said and whether he actually said what's been reported. Certainly, if the remarks are reported accurately, if he indeed did say this, then we would certainly find those kinds of comments unacceptable. There's nothing that can justify the kind of terrorism, the kind of bus bombings and other things that are attributed to Hamas recently.
We've made very clear these groups need to be put out of business. We've made very clear the Palestinian leaders need to take hold of this problem, need to get the authority and take immediate and credible steps to end terror and violence. The time for explanations, excuses and discussion is long past. We think it's time to see some action that sends a clear message that terrorists will not be tolerated.

The U.S. Department of State is a very curious institution that supports and puts forward Islam on a website entitled Muslim life (in America). Yet it "overlooks" all other groups within the United States. I wonder why Muslims are so privileged to have this special treatment.
Thus I find it strange that State is now condemning the very pampered group that it promotes. Could it be that they STILL DON'T see the connection between the tenets of Islam and Muslim violence? Hopefully they soon will be able to connect the dots....
What will State say when they take an American School?

atheine, You asked the pefect question when you said what will State say when they take an American school. We can only guess. You have a good clear thought pattern that helps the rest of us. Could it be that the STEADY RESOLVE of President George W Bush has filtered down even into the customarily “sensitive” US Department of State?
Mr Boucher’s words sound like this indeed being the case - seldom has such DIRECT language been applied by State in connection with anything whatever to do with the “Palestinians”. Is the preponderance of the notorious, profound Arabism of Foggy Bottom, at length, on the wane?
Have an adequate number of Staff there properly absorbed the dire enormity of the “War on Terror” (WWIV!)? Are they at last sternly adopting a new staunchness in their Diplomacy (representing American interests, no longer addled by a pack of spurious, Euro-line inanities) - of a supremely practical caste - shrewdly pitched to assist (not hinder) in CONFRONTING and REVERSING the bloody offensives of Islamo-fascist/Jihadi Terrorism?
If so, they’re functionally grasping that the PA/PLO-Hamas-Jihad Islami-“Pal” Hezbollah and its nauseating “President”, Yasir Arafat, are totally consumed with the pursuit of genocide against Israel and violence against the USA, NOT PEACE. Hence, Washington’s concretely obliged to treat the “Palestinian” entity accordingly: the sterile era of averting the eye from “Palestinian” misdeeds, always absolving them from their responsibilities (even REWARDING them for their grave breaches and obscene lies), imposing no penalties for their serial transgressions, is OVER.
Let’s hope so. Meanwhile, the threat - which Mr Boucher was addressing - by PA/PLO “PM” Ahmed Qurei, of “justified retaliation” against Israel for its cancellation of 14 Hamas terrorists in Gaza, was relayed on Australia’s SBS-TV “News” last night without any hint at all that those 14 killed were Hamas gunmen, being reported only as “Palestinians” (- presumably innocents).
