Iraqi columnist Aziz Al-Hajj is a courageous man, may other Muslims follow him to the truth!

It would have been better for this journalist to have said what he said anonymously...the nazis and communists would have killed anyone like this guy who publicly spoke out...even before they came to power. Sadr would kill him in an instant...and many/numerous other clerics in Iraq would DEFINATELY have him dissapearing mysteriously in the night never to be seen again so they could absolve themselves of any responsibilty. People are being murdered there just for driving trucks for the iraqi government. Maybe if Iraq becomes more stable and the clerics become marginalised people like him can speak out...but at the moment it seems every second iraqi and fundamentalist thug has a gun...so I am concerned for this guy. Then again an enlightenment movement often has to start by someone speaking out about the ignorance and madness in their society just when it is most dangerous to do so. Now iraq just needs about 25 million more like him.

Someone posted the other day about porn sites run by a muslim displaying women's "assets" while keeping their heads covered by scarves. Apparently the purveyor of such filth is also of the "worldwide shariah rule/islamic caliphate" persuasion. Whoever posted or knows about the site, please give me some further info. I'd like to see some writing samples of any islamist propaganda posted on the sites.

That is true but it will require a lot of help from the outside. Muslims are locked up in a cage that is Islam, and the lock is outside. We have to open the cage and they have to show a willingness to step out.

Islam is very supportive as a culture, and it is difficult for a Muslim, born and brought up in the cage, to leave for the uncertainty of Freedom.

Carrot and stick is probably the best approach. GWB seems to be doing this.

President Bolinger, save yourself continued embarrassment. Bring over Aziz Al-Hajj, or Ali Sina, or Ibn Warraq -- those who are ex-Muslims, and those who would like not to have to call themselves ex-Muslims -- and let them put things right. Then, just maybe, students at Columbia will be able to read Qur'an and hadith and sira, and all the real students of Islam, including such forbidden topics as the origins of the Qur'an, including whatever Michael Cook, Patricia Crone, and a swelling group of real scholars -- as opposed to the Arafat amen corner -- can offer.

Really, there has to be some administrative interest taken in what people are learning, or what they are not learning. And the atmosphere of intimidation is only part of the point.
