An imam who advocated wife-beating was deported from France yesterday after the country's highest administrative court dismissed his claim that an expulsion order was unlawful.Abdelkader Bouziane, 52, enraged public opinion with his comments in a magazine interview and was accused by the French interior ministry of inciting violence.
As well as claiming that the Koran authorised wife-beating, the Algerian-born cleric said he approved of the stoning of adulterous women. He has two wives and 16 children, who remain in France.Bouziane, who preached in Vénissieux, near Lyons, claimed to have been misunderstood because of his poor French.
