Anti-Korean Group Linked to Bangladesh Islamic Party

The jihad is global: the mujahedin traveled to Afghanistan, and then to Bosnia, and now to Chechnya and Iraq. And, evidently, South Korea. From the Korea Times, with thanks to Twostellas:

The Dawatul Islamia of Korea, an anti-South Korean Islamic organization detected by the government in April, was confirmed to be a branch of an Islamic political party in Bangladesh.

Rep. Kim Jae-gyeong of the opposition Grand National Party (GNP), who revealed the presence of the group on Oct. 13, said yesterday the Dawatul Islamia of Korea was confirmed as the Korean branch of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, a party espousing Islamic fundamentalism....

On Oct. 13, Rep. Kim said that the immigration office deported five undocumented migrant workers from Bangladesh who were deported in April for establishing the Islamic group in South Korea.

Kim said one of those deported was a member of the Jamaat-e-Ismai. He was found to have sent 60 million won to the party after raising the money from his followers in South Korea.

The man set up the Islamic group in Anyang, where a mosque is located, since he became the imam of the mosque in August 2000.

This is the first time authorities have detected an anti-South Korean group of foreign residents here.

How is it that he became the imam? Didn't all the Muslims there recognize that he was teaching an extremist version of Islam that twisted Islam's peaceful teachings?

(Yes, that above paragraph is sarcastic.)

The Turkish troops who fought in South Korea left behind a legacy, as good Muslims: they managed to engage in Da'wa, or the Call to Islam, among the starving Koreans, no doubt some of whom were impressed with their fortitude and grateful to them. The result is that South Korea has about 50,000 Korean Muslims, a fact overlooked by many, but not by Muslims. As Islam bears many of the distinguishing characteristics of a military movement, and apostasy, or leaving Islam, is regarded not as an act of individual conscience but of treason punishable by death (according to the texts, though not always enforced), these Korean Muslims behind enemy lines, in the Bilad al-kufr, are regarded as a useful potential fifth column. It does not matter that today they may be quiescent, or seemingly unaffected by larger currents. No one, in South Korea, or the United States, or elsewhere, can afford to assume anything but the worst in matters of national security. Muslims in the army, in the security services, in policy making, pose a danger -- especially given both the astounding naivete, a wilful innocence and ignorance of Islam (just look at the editorial today in The New York Times, or Tom Friedman's comical performance two days ago) -- that cannot be measured, and sometimes cannont be detected. Taqiyya, rhetorical concessions, expressions of outrage that anyone would be suspicious (eyes rolling heavenward in mock-outrage) after all, goes a long way to deflect suspicion. At this point, for makers of policy all over the West, a concerted effort to keep out those who, perhaps for other reasons (ingrained anti-Americanism, antisemitism) are most likely to be least wary of Islam, most insistent on not studying too closely the actual teachings derived from Qur'an, hadith, and sira, are also a security risk.

Robert, that's priceless!!!

And here's gullible old me thinking that North Korea was the only country on Bush's list of "terrorist/rogue states" with no islamic ties.

Well thats me told (N.Korea, should be the next on the list after Iran, or maybe even before Iran.... it's starting to look pretty damn dangerous. But I guess the question that needs asking is , who presents the biggest threat to the west.... Iran or N.Korea??? I'd say Iran are the most likely to use nukes (on Israel, with threats to us through nukes "accidentally" falling into terrorists hands...), but N.Korea already have nukes!!!

China says it has a problem with the ageing and the works? Yes they have mulsums too?

So now people understand when they see protest in S.Korea that it is the peacful mussis on the streets?
