Assyrian Christian Leader calls for more protection for his people - before they leave in even larger numbers

A cry for help from the embattled Christians of Iraq. From the Assist News Service, with thanks to Ali Dashti:

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (ANS) -- The bombing of five more churches in Baghdad, Iraq, on Sunday, October 16, has prompted an Assyrian Christian leader to ask for more protection for his people – before they leave in even larger numbers.

The Rev. Ken Joseph Jr., director of the Assyrian Christian Assistance Center in Baghdad, said, “We demand immediate action on this and call upon all freedom loving peoples worldwide to demand their governments immediately provide all assistance so these urgent needs can be implemented before it is too late and the indigenous people of Iraq the Assyrian Christians are forced to leave.

Five Christian Churches were bombed in the 4AM Sunday morning attack. They were: The Mar Yussef (St. Joseph), Mar Toma (St. Thomas) Mar Yacob (St. Jacob), Mar Gewargis (St. George) and Mar Roum (St. Roum) and each of the churches, which were attended by many Assyrian Christians, sustained damage.

According to a message sent to the ASSIST News Service (ANS) by Joseph, this second major attack this year, following a previous attack on seven Assyrian Churches in August, “is sending shockwaves throughout the Assyrian Christian Community worldwide.”

Assyrian Christian leaders have just completed a series of meetings with the State Department in Washington and Congressional leaders and two separate meetings with the Iraqi Government, World Bank and UN demanding the “Five R’s” for the Assyrian Christian Community in Iraq.

They include:
-Reconstruction of 292 destroyed Assyrian Christian Villages
-Resettlement of nearly 100,000 Assyrian Christians driven out of their land by Saddam Hussein
-Registration for voting purposes of the community
-A Regional Security system
-A Regional Administrative Region under article 53 of the Constitution

A spokesman said, “What has encouraged the community in the series of meetings has been support from all parties including the Iraqi Government, US Government and others for an Autonomous area as guaranteed in the Constitution for the Assyrian Christians.”

Rottsa ruck, sucker! You're in a mullahcracy now.

OT, but in Australia, there is a meat scandal wheras beef mince and sausages have been found to contain pork. Mutton too has been mixed with pork. Wonder how muslims feel about that?

Here is a good, brief little article on what we should do to confront the Islamist threat. I would note, in particular, that the average person can consult the website, divestterror.org in order to disinvest from companies or mutual funds that invest in companies that deal with regimes that support terror.

The Islamist Challenge to American Security
A briefing by Frank J. Gaffney
September 22, 2004
http://www.meforum.org/article/639
Audio recording available at http://www.meforum.org/audio/

Frank J. Gaffney is founder and president of the Center for Security Policy in Washington, DC. He earned his AM in international studies from John's Hopkins University. A former deputy assistant secretary of defense for international security policy, Mr. Gaffney's articles have appeared in Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, New Republic, Newsday, New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. He is a contributing editor to National Review Online. Mr. Gaffney addressed the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia on September 22, 2004.

The threat of terror is the most direct challenge to the stability of America as a functioning country. The term used by politicians and the media to describe America's response to this threat – the "War on Terror" – is a misnomer, however. The war is actually a war against those who foment and support terror. In this respect, it is really a "War on Islamism," known also as fundamentalist Islam.

There are five essential principles the U.S. must follow if it wishes to win this "War on Islamism" and severely curtail and eventually eliminate the threat of Islamic terror.

Define U.S. enemies
First, America must clearly define its enemies. These enemies include all groups and nations that participate in terrorist activities by means of carrying out attacks, providing financial and military aid to terrorists, and lending logistical support to the overall pernicious goals of Islamic fundamentalism. Organizations like al-Qaeda typify this definition of a U.S. enemy. Equally discernable as enemies of the U.S. under the same definition are countries such as Iran, Libya, Syria, Sudan, North Korea, and formerly, Saddam's Iraq.

The regimes that collaborate with terrorists are just as dangerous as al-Qaeda because terrorist cells could not operate nearly as effectively without state sponsorship. The people who believe the American war on Iraq was a diversion from the real war against terror are missing the point entirely. Saddam's Iraq willingly provided Islamists with an array of support as part of retaliation for the 1991 liberation of Kuwait in Operation Desert Storm. Eliminating his regime was a proactive step in the "War on Islamism" and a grave message to all other enemy regimes and organizations that offer aid to Islamic terrorists.

Define U.S. friends
Second, America must clearly define its true friends. These are the nations that share America's values and sense of morality. Israel is at the top of the list of countries along with Britain, Australia, and Japan. India and several countries that escaped tyranny in central and eastern Europe probably also qualify as friends.

In the same spirit, America must examine its "so-called friends." Leaders in this category include Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Pakistan, for example, helped out in the "War on Islamism" over the last few years; previously, however, Pakistan actually supported the growth of terror networks in Afghanistan. The nation has only been on the U.S. side since 9/11 because an alliance with America better serves Pakistani interests than its former pre-9/11 alliance with the deposed Taliban regime. This fair weather alliance is not a friendship. Saudi Arabia, also presents itself as a friend of America and supporter in the global fight against terrorists. Yet it is hard to find a government that supports and invests more in Islamism than the Saudi regime. Currently, manifestations of this involvement exist both within the country and outside via doctrinal religious intolerance and financial support for terrorists.

Taking the war to the terrorists
The pursuit of an offensive strategy is the third crucial principle in the "War Against Islamism." America must take the war to the terrorists rather than waiting for the terrorists to strike first. The war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq exemplify this strategy. Although currently unfinished, they are important steps within a long-term strategy to eradicate the enemy. As a result of American intervention, these nations no longer have the capability to substantially support terror from a state sponsorship role.

Improved homeland security
Better homeland security is the fourth principle the U.S. must follow to ensure the defeat of Islamism. Terrorists have the ability to smuggle unconventional weapons into the country and use them against Americans. Although America has a very limited capability to eliminate all possible threats of this kind, stricter border and port security in addition to better detection technology limit the potential for terrorist attacks.

Economic offensive against Islamists
The fifth principle is to empower individual Americans is by making them aware that they can economically damage Islamism and regimes that assist in terrorist activities. Many Americans have investments in publicly traded companies that do business with regimes that willingly and openly support Islamic terrorism. Some of these stocks even come through pension funds and other retirement funds.

Unfortunately, most people who hold these investments are unaware of this issue. However, they are entitled to know about this problem so that they can make moral choices and play an assertive role in combating terror. The website www.divestterror.org provides more information about investments. Importantly, from a financial perspective, if a company sells items to a pro-Islamist regime, and that regime uses these items in an attack, then the stock of the company will fall and consequently hurt all shareholders.

Conclusion
Ultimately, if America does everything in its ability to adopt the first four principles, it still will not succeed against the Islamist threat without adopting also the fifth: working to obtain the sustained support of the American people. In order to garner this support, something must be done to give Americans a sense of empowerment in combating potential terrorism. The concept of divestment as an economic weapon will give Americans a personal opportunity to combat terror and will also be a key instrument in fighting the "War on Islamism."

Unfortunately, the suffering of the Assyrian Christians of Iraq will draw no attention. Western media all but ignores that fact that Iraqi Christians live as second-class citizens in a worls of insecurity, fear, and discrimination. When's the last time you read a BBC article reporting the fate of Iraq's Assyrian population?

The UN will do nothing, the U.S. government will do nothing. The Assyrians are a political nuisance, and the suffering of Christians in general at the hand of muslims is a forbidden topic.

One of the things people like KeithJoy don't get about the war in Iraq, which is part and parcel to the overall war against islamofascists:

http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/emery200410250750.asp

Hey Gary. You don't send me to nationreview.com or newsmax.com, and I won't send you to mikemoore.com or bartcop.com. Deal?

Iraq will be a theocratic hellhole, period. No if's and's or but's about it. Just like Osama wanted.

And you won't care, because it will be W the Golden One that caused it. You won't care when the last Christian in Iraq is exiled or executed. You won't care when a Shi'ite cleric is "elected" as the "president" of Iraq. You won't care when they "vote in" Sharia. You won't care when mobs of "morality police" start roaming the streets looking for "uppity" women. You won't care when women start getting battery acid splashed in their faces and whipped in public. You won't care when perverted old Muslims start marrying nine-year-old girls.

You will only say again and again "Whew! Thank GOD that Bush took care of Saddam Hussein! The world is a MUCH better place without him!"

PS... 380 TONs of explosives missing from Iraq? You may recall that when one of you guys blew up the Oklahoma City federal building, that was ONE ton... of fertilizer. Oh well, good thing W had the troops guard only the Oil Ministry Building. It's only blue-collar GIs and Iraqis getting killed, so don't worry Gary.

the implication that the u.s. is fulfilling the dreams of bin laden is silly

Qur’an 74:31 “We have appointed nineteen angels to be the wardens of the Hell Fire. We made a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve and We have fixed their number as a trial for unbelievers in order that the people of the Book may arrive with certainty, and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Book, those in whose hearts is a disease. And for those to whom the Scripture Book has been given, and the believers, there should be no doubt. The unbelievers may say, ‘What does the Lord intend by this?’ The Lord will lead astray whomever He pleases, and He will guide whomever He pleases: and none can know the armies of your Lord except He, and this is no other than a warning to mankind.”

This can be broken by Yes it is the Army of the people of the Book who he has chosen to Free [USA] the Iraqi people as it says

He will guide whomever He pleases: and none can know the armies of your Lord except He, and this is no other than a warning to mankind.”

Yes he has chosen the USA!!
And lets look at another part?

The Lord will lead astray whomever He pleases,

Ubl,saddam, zawari, all who Kill and destroy mankind?
There will be no more warnings?
As he Warns Japan for they just arrested 2 Mulsums who have sold bad things to Terrorist?

Hey KJ, get serious.
The Christian population in arab countries has been shrinking for years. Islam cannot handle competition - most Christians left their arab homelands for 'health reasons'long before the latest Iraq incursion - so stop blaming W.
The only use islamic arabs have for Christians is to use them as 'fronts' for propaganda, such as the ex Iraqi foreign minister and the woman Palestian arab apologist, Hanan Ashwari (?) - and you know the tremendous influence of women and Christians in arab society don't you - just below zero.

He likely is, Catherine. No worries. Nor do I have any reason to go to site he reccomends, by the very people who's lies are easily shown to be so by well-researched and documented articles at these 'bloggers-in-pyjamas' sites. I guess kj is saying that the historically documented Facts about Lincoln, Roosevelt, et al are either Lies, or we can't compare those situations to this one.

kj does not seam to care or be worried about the 43,000,000 Americans killed sience 1973??? Yes that is in the USA about 4000 a day KILLED where is KJ on that???

I'm sure he thinks this is okay?

Daniel Pipes once pointed out that a democratically-minded "strongman" might be more appropriate for Iraq for quite some time. The more I read stories like this, the more I believe he may have been right (even though the appointment of a strongman by the U.S. or U.N. has its own problems with regards to the perception of legitimacy). Now that elections have been promised, there is no turning back. We can only hope cooler heads will prevail.

As for these poor Christians, perhaps they can be welcomed to the U.S. with open arms to alleviate our acute shortage of translators (It sure beats trusting Muslims to do it).

43 MILLION Americans killed since 1973? Let's see... thanks to brave combat verterans telling the TRUTH, the Vietnam war was pretty much over by that point...241 Marines killed by Reagan in Beirut...19 sent to Somalia by Bush Sr....10,000 dead from Gulf War Syndrome...168 by rep-con McVeigh... six in WTC '93.... 3500 while Bush slept at the wheel... it just doesn't add up. Maybe if we add the 40k or so murders each year in America... no, still not enough. Surely Cathy isn't trying to highlight the 100,000 killed by their doctors every year?

Hmmm... is she crazier than usual? OH WAIT... I know! She means "abortion." As usual she is right on topic. Catherine, if you hate abortion, move to a country where "God"'s law are still enforced: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Cathy, what will you do if you or your daughter or mother is raped by Willie Horton, OJ, or Slick Willie? Will you make her body a slave to the rapist? Or will you let her go to France, Cuba, or Texas for an abortion?

Did you know that 20-25% of ALL pregnancies result in a miscarriage, for no apparent reason? The doctors call it "spontaneous abortion." Do you think God is a killer?

Do you think there were any pregnant women in Soddom and Gamorra when they "were punished"?

Did you know that cigarette smoke kills 100,000 babies a year?

Did you know that the "morning after" contraception pill would prevent 300,000 abortions a year? Do you know that Asscroft and Dub want it outlawed?

Did you know that 32,000 women/girls are made pregnant by rape every year?

Do you care?

jk
I have a friend whao could not have children and adopted a child who was the result of a rape??

The woman was raped by some men that her xhusband had sent to teach her a lesson??

Now this little girl is the joy of my Friends life with the most beautiful blue eyes and blond hair with big curles you will never convence me??

You can get over rape but death is perment???

British Paper Ends Bid to Sway U.S. Vote
LONDON (AP) -- A British newspaper that set off a trans-Atlantic political storm when it urged its readers to write to Ohio voters in an attempt to sway their ballot choice in the U.S. presidential race said Sunday that it had ended the campaign.
The Guardian newspaper said that it stopped giving out names and addresses of undecided voters after hackers broke into its Web site a week ago, effectively ending "Operation Clark County."
Editors also professed themselves overwhelmed with the response to the campaign - a response that included Guardian reporters being deluged with thousands of angry e-mails from Americans.
The newspaper also has abandoned plans to take four of the best letter writers to Springfield, Ohio, to meet voters. Instead it will send the winners to the "more tranquil" Washington D.C. for a vacation.

The Guardian had invited its readers to contact voters in Clark County, Ohio, a swing state, about the importance of the Nov. 2 election.
The newspaper's Web site said letter-writers were free to support either President Bush or Sen. John Kerry but noted that a Guardian poll showed 47 percent of Britons backed Kerry and 16 percent supported Bush.
Within the first day, more than 3,000 readers logged on to the newspaper's Web site to obtain the name and address of an unaffiliated voter taken from the electoral roll.
The campaign became a worldwide story, and Web site readers from several countries, including Australia, Japan, Canada, Morocco, Chile, France and Italy, applied for addresses.
A spokesman for the newspaper said Sunday that the project went well, with more than 14,000 addresses downloaded, when the site was hacked into last weekend "presumably by someone unhappy with the debate we had created."
The spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the remaining addresses - about 20,000 - were downloaded by the hackers all at once and the newspaper decided to call it quits.
"It would have taken us several days to reconstitute the site, as we would have needed to repurchase the electoral roll, and as interest had already surpassed our expectations, and the competition element of the project was due to end within a very short period, we decided not to rebuild the site," the spokesman said.
Thousands of voters in Clark County still may receive letters from readers who managed to download the Americans' addresses before the hackers hit.
While the newspaper called its project a success, it created a headache for journalists at The Guardian, where media editor Ian Katz reported they received thousands of e-mails from angry U.S. voters, many of them staunch conservatives and some of them abusive.
"Hey England, Scotland and Wales, mind your own business," one American wrote in a letter published on the newspaper's Web site. "We don't need weenie-spined Limeys meddling in our presidential election."
In Ohio, an Oct. 15 headline in the Springfield News-Sun read: "Butt out Brits, voters say."
Katz, who dreamed up the project in a north London pub, said the campaign had been taken more seriously in some quarters than the newspaper had intended and rejected suggestions it could affect the outcome of the Nov. 2 vote in the county.
However, he said the outcry had led the newspaper to send its letter-writing prize winners to observe the final days of the election in Washington, rather than Springfield, where a Guardian delegation would be "bound to prolong the brouhaha, with unknowable consequences."
"I think I have an idea how Frankenstein felt," Katz wrote in a column on Friday. "Somewhere along the line, though, the good-humored spirit of the enterprise got lost in translation."

I believe both SH and OBL pretty much laid out what the West was planning to do to the Middle East some years ago. And believe it or not, by all outward indications we're doing just that. Although I don't think that was OBLs preferred "dream".

The fact that Iraq has become a terroism magnet in the Middle East can't be denied. Also, it would be really hard to deny that the political, social, and humanitarian situation in Iraq breds hate and discontent. The Islamists use this hate and discontent to rally people to their cause. So I certainly see where kj is coming from.

You can't fix a problem you don't acknowledge.

A major achievement: US removes 1.7 metric tons of radioactive material from Iraq
Here are 1.7 metric tons of radioactive material that won't find their way into dirty bombs detonated in New York City. From the BBC, with thanks to Richard:
Along with 1.77 tons of enriched uranium, about 1,000 "highly radioactive sources" were also removed.
The material was taken from a former nuclear research facility on 23 June, after being packaged by 20 experts from the US Energy Department's secret laboratories.
It was flown out of the country aboard a military plane in a joint operation with the Department of Defense, and is being stored temporarily at a Department of Energy facility.

Counsels of Cowardice and Defeat
David Horowitz
Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004
A political ad was placed in the New York Times by the radical organization MoveOn.org, a group that has provided a platform for attacks on the Bush Administration by Howard Dean, Al Gore and members of the Kerry-Edwards campaign. The ad was an open letter purportedly from college students and began: “President Bush Will You Call On Us To Die?”

This was not really criticism of the President’s policy choices or of America’s war to liberate Iraq, but rather a frontal attack on both. In addition to its blunt and unwarranted assertion that service to one’s country was equivalent to a death sentence, it falsely insinuated that the President was planning a military draft, which would make the service as involuntary as ... well ... a death sentence would be. Finally, it demanded that the President provide “a plan to end the war,” and did so without expressing the slightest concern about the war’s outcome.
In other words, in the midst of America’s armed conflict with a terrifying enemy the MoveOn.org ad was an incitement to self-interest, cowardice and defeat. The ad ended with a rephrasing of John Kerry’s famous question about Vietnam – a war he first abandoned and then turned against: “Most importantly, when will we know that the last of our friends has died?”
What has happened to the moral fiber of this country that a group as close to the center of American political life as MoveOn.org would counsel cowardice, selfishness and defeat in the midst of a war with an enemy as ruthless and determined as the terrorists in Iraq?
The war in Iraq was authorized in congressional resolution by both political parties. It is a war to enforce a unanimous Security Council ultimatum, and sixteen ignored Security Council ultimatums before that. It is a war to depose one of the worst tyrants of the modern world, whose removal is a policy requested by two successive American presidents, again representing both political parties. It is a war in which every enemy of the United States is ranged on the other side.
What has happened to the moral fiber of this country that an organization like MoveOn.org – along with many leaders of the Democratic Party – should actively seek to sabotage this war by turning America’s youth against it and demanding a retreat from the field of battle without condition?
The retreat from Vietnam and Cambodia that Mr. Kerry did so much to encourage thirty years ago had an unhappy ending that critics of this war seem eager to forget. That retreat resulted in the deaths of two-and-half million Indo-Chinese peasants whom the Communists slaughtered when they came to power. This is the infamous bloodbath whose prospect John Kerry dismissed as a possibility when he debated Swift Boat vet John O’Neill on the Dick Cavett show in 1971. John Kerry proved wrong then. What if the proponents of retreat from Iraq prove wrong this time?
If the United States were to lose the battle for Iraq (and a retreat without condition would ensure that), there would be a similar bloodbath. Every Iraqi who has fought for their freedom, every ally of America in Iraq will be put to the sword by Zarqawi and his terrorist cohorts – many quite literally. The terrorist government of Iran, whose jihadists are now engaged in fighting our troops alongside the agents of Saddam Hussein, will emerge from our retreat as the dominant force in a radicalized Middle East. Revenge against the crusaders will be high on its agenda.
It is time for us to take the counsels of doom in our midst seriously. The threat we face is not only external. American troops can army in the field of battle. What America cannot do is win the war on terror if the forces of selfishness and cowardice and defeatism divide us at home.
David Horowitz is the author of "Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left,"

he was on C-span this week end was pretty good!!

Some interesting stats...

Rounded to an even number about 1,100 U.S soldiers killed in the Iraq war since the start of hostilities.

16,503 citizens MURDERED in the U.S. in 2003...FBI report on crime in the U.S.A.

It sure as hell sounds like I would be safer in Iraq.

With typical American ethnocentricity, you forget about the tens of thousands of Iraqi's who have been killed.

Ah voltaire, you missed my point completely, But alas, I won't try to explain

Why isn't anything being done to protect these oppressed people. The leftist media makes me sick. It's as if this isn't happening , it gets no mention on the news, instead we hear constantly about the suffering of the "poor oppressed muslims, under US occupation". The scum attacking these churches are the same dirt wads the left refers to as "freedom fighters"....*sigh*

C,

Yes I agree that we should keep the fight off our block and on theirs. I just want to make sure we're on the right block, killing the right people, and doing the right thing from a strategic point of view.

The sad fact is that Bush and Rumsfeld are military morons and have put the military in a bad spot. We have enough enemies we don't need to create more because we're being stupid.

You want to kill terrorists and get the bastards behind 9/11? Me too. Let's get them and not screw the world up for generations to come in the process by doing it the wrong way.

Also, where are the body counts? We need to have the body count figures shown on the nightly news every night. I grew up watching the Vietnam war on TV and I'm used to body counts with my war making. Where are they, who decided to nix them, and what was their reasoning? I'll not state the obvious.

f.g.

The sad truth is that this was all too predictable. I wonder when the world will learn that democracy cannot be imposed on a people. It is unfortunate that some countries need to be ruled by a strongman. Iraq is made up of three major diverse ethnic groups as well as some smaller groups like assyrian christians and Jews. TO think that they would accept democracy from the start is as laughable as to think Milosevic would accept the same. I am the first to say Sadaam was an as*h*le. But he was for the most part contained, it turns out. Meanwhile, Iran, the real regional threat and islamist regime carries on. The West has harmed its legitimacy and it will prevent us from being able to address the Iranian dilemma with any sort of coalition.

The sad fact is that Bush and Rumsfeld are military morons and have put the military in a bad spot. We have enough enemies we don't need to create more because we're being stupid.

New York Timesgate- NBC Debunks Weapons Cache Story

Yesterday, the NY Times broke a story, that was lauded by Kerry, that was supposed to be the
democrats much needed "October Surprise", with regards to securing 380 tons of explosives in
Iraq.

The Times reported, "The huge facility, called Al Qaqaa, was supposed to be under American
military control but is now a no man's land, still picked over by looters as recently as Sunday."

However, that statement by the Times is at the very least misinformation, at worst an outright lie.

NBC is reporting that the weapons at the Al Qaqaa facility were already gone, when troops
arrived.

Jim Miklaszewski of NBC said: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was
embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al
Qaqaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons
of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now
missing."

"The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX,
so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a
nuclear weapon," said Miklaszewski.

NBC was embedded with the U.S. military when they secured the facility at Al Qaqaa.

The fact of the matter is, Al Qaqaa was a notorious site that was believed to have had chemical
weapons. Additionally, Al Qaqaa was a known site for the production of long range scud
missiles. UN inspectors visited the site at least a dozen times, prior to the war.

The site was partially destroyed during the first Gulf War. Furthermore, warhead processing
facilities at the site were destroyed under UNSCOM supervision.

The bottom line is, the facility was a #1 target for the U.S. Military. To imply that the site was
not secured and that 380 million tons of weapons were allowed to "disappear" by U.S. Forces is
ludicrous.

Nonetheless, John Kerry and the media is running wild with this fallacious story.

During a political rally yesterday, Kerry said “George W. Bush, who talks tough ... and brags
about making America safer, has once again failed to deliver,” Kerry told supporters in Dover, N.
H. “After being warned about the danger of major stockpiles of explosives in Iraq, this president
failed to guard those stockpiles.”

Kerry continued his verbal assault saying: “This is one of the great blunders of Iraq, one of the
greatest blunders of this administration, and the incredible incompetence of this president and this
administration has put our troops at risk and this country at greater risk.”

John Edwards said: "It is reckless and irresponsible to fail to protect and safeguard one of the
largest weapons sites in the country. And by either ignoring these mistakes or being clueless about
them, George Bush has failed. He has failed as our commander in chief; he has failed as
president."

It appears that the two John's have been duped, yet again, by the liberal media.

"The U.S. Army was at the site one day after the liberation and the weapons were already gone,"
a top Republican blasted from Washington late Monday.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said: "Coalition forces were present in the vicinity at
various times during and after major combat operations," he said. "The forces searched 32
bunkers and 87 other buildings at the facility. While some explosive material was discovered,
none of it carried IAEA seals."

Matt Drudge, from DrudgeReport, is disclosed an e-mail that he received by a Bush official
saying: "Let me get this straight, are Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards now saying we did not go into
Iraq soon enough? We should have invaded and liberated Iraq sooner?"

Hanoi Approved of Role Played By Anti-War Vets
BY THOMAS LIPSCOMB - Special to the Sun
October 26, 2004
The communist regime in Hanoi monitored closely and looked favorably upon the activities of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War during the period Senator Kerry served most actively as the group's spokesman and a member of its executive committee, two captured Viet Cong documents suggest.
The documents - one dubbed a "circular" and the other a "directive" - were captured in 1971 and are part of a trove of material from the war currently stored at the Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University at Lubbock. Originally organized by Douglas Pike, a major scholar who is now deceased, the archive contains more than 20 million documents. Many are available online at the Virtual Vietnam Archive and, as the election has heated up, have been the focus of a scramble for insights into Mr. Kerry's anti-war activities. The Circular and the Directive are listed as items numbered 2150901039b and 2150901041 respectively. Their authenticity was confirmed by Stephen Maxner, archivist at the Vietnam Archive.
The two documents provide a glimpse of the favorable way the Viet Cong viewed the activities in which Mr. Kerry was involved. They are from many documents of a kind that were ordinarily sent to a unit called the Captured Document Exploitation Center at the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, which was headquartered in Saigon. Documents like these that were sent to the center were immediately translated into English and processed for battlefield intelligence for targeting or operations as required, or filed.
The CDEC cover sheet of the "Directive" indicates it was "acquired" on May 12, 1971. The cover sheet itself is dated June 30, 1971, and is entitled "VC Efforts to Back Antiwar Demonstrations in the United States." It shows a detailed knowledge of such VVAW activities as the Dewey Canyon demonstration on the Mall in Washington in April 1971, mentioning the "return of their medals." And the Saigon American military intelligence cover sheet dates the information in that document as being assembled in Vietnam only a week after the Washington VVAW demonstration had taken place.
The CDEC Viet Cong document titled "Circular on Antiwar Movements in the US" notes, "The spontaneous antiwar movements in the US have received assistance and guidance from the friendly (VC/NVN) delegations at the Paris Peace Talks." It also notes that "The seven-point peace proposal (of the SVN Provisional Revolutionary Government) [the Viet Cong proposal advanced by one of its envoys, Madame Binh, operating out of Paris] not only solved problems concerning the release of US prisoners but also motivated the people of all walks of life and even relatives of US pilots detained in NVN to participate in the antiwar movement."
The significance of the documents lies in the way they dovetail with activities of the young Mr. Kerry as he led the VVAW anti-war movement in the spring of 1971.
It was in April that he gave his testimony to the Senate, in which he accused American GIs of having committed war crimes and belittled the idea that there was a communist threat to America. Mr. Kerry had already had, in June of 1970, a meeting in Paris with enemy diplomats, ostensibly, he has indicated, to get a sense of how American prisoners held in Hanoi might be freed. Two historians believe Mr. Kerry made a second trip to Paris in the summer of 1971 and held further talks with the North Vietnamese. The Kerry campaign has denied this.
FBI surveillance and Mr. Kerry's own statements have established his two visits to Paris to meet with the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong delegations to the Paris Peace Talks as taking place in June of 1970 and August of 1971.
An FBI surveillance report dated November 11, 1971, has also established that Mr. Kerry and Al Hubbard, the executive director of the VVAW who had brought Mr. Kerry into the organization, planned to return to meet with them again in Paris on November 15, 1971.
A November 24, 1971, FBI surveillance report disclosed that Mr. Hubbard had also had meetings on his own with the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong delegations in Paris. It noted that he had reported at a national meeting of the VVAW in Kansas City that the Communist Party of the United States had paid his expenses for the most recent one.
The purpose of these meetings by the two top VVAW members, Messrs. Hubbard and Kerry, has always been assumed to be informational. But the documents in the Texas archive suggest another possibility. On July 23, 1971, The New York Times reported that Mr. Kerry held a demonstration in Washington in support of the "seven-point peace proposal" and, according to the Times, "Mr. Kerry, who is 27 years, introduced wives, parents and sisters of prisoners to plead for support."
The Times's dispatch stated that Mr. Kerry charged "...the latest Vietcong peace offer in Paris, which promises the release of prisoners as American troops are withdrawn, is being ignored by Mr. Nixon..."
The circular in the Texas archive states, "The antiwar movements in the US are trying to find means to cooperate... They are also trying by all means to support the seven-point peace proposal (of the PRG) [Viet Cong] and oppose the distorted interpretation made by the White House, the Pentagon and CIA."

Dems Register al-Qaida Terrorists in Ohio Vote Drive
In a bid to get out the vote for John Kerry, Democrat activist groups in Ohio have registered at least two known terrorists involved in a plot to blow up a shopping center.
Nuradin Abdi, a Somali immigrant and admitted al-Qaida member who was indicted earlier this year as part of a conspiracy to blow up the Columbus Mall, was registered to vote by the left-wing group ACORN, according to the Columbus Dispatch and the Ohio News Now TV Network.
ACORN has spearheaded an aggressive Democrat vote drive in the battleground states.
Iyman Faris, another new Ohio voter added to the rolls by Democrats, is serving a 20-year jail sentence for his role in surveilling potential al-Qaida targets, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Dispatch said.
According to Ohio News Now, Abdi's name was added to the rolls by ACORN employee Kevin Eugene Dooley as part of the group's Project Vote operation.
Dooley was indicted earlier this year on two felony election offenses: false election registration and submitting false election signatures to the Ohio Board of Elections.
"As far as board of elections is concerned, Abdi is a registered voter," Ohio board of elections director Matt Damschroeder told ONN.
Only after Abdi's case was exposed did Ohio officials strike his name from the voting rolls, because of his status as an illegal alien.
Faris became a naturalized citizen in 1999 but is not eligible to vote because he's an incarcerated felon.
