PARIS (AP) -- France's finance minister, a presidential hopeful, says mosques need state funding and it's time for a century-old law banning financing for religious groups to be modernized, according to excerpts of a new book hitting the shelves on Thursday.Nicolas Sarkozy, in his book ``The Republic, Religions, Hope,'' says extremism is festering in underground mosques and Islamic groups don't have money to build houses of worship.
``What is dangerous is not minarets, but caves and garages that keep clandestine religious groups hidden,'' Sarkozy says in the book, according to excerpts published in Le Monde and other French newspapers Tuesday.
Unlike Jewish and Christian groups with a history in France, Islam is relatively new here and needs a helping hand, Sarkozy says.
``In light of our past experiences and our errors, let us prove our modesty and tolerance,'' Sarkozy writes. ``Have we already forgotten our crusades?''
Oh no, Nick. We remember them very well. But have you forgotten the jihads? Obviously.
This has been tried in India where Muslims have all sorts of specially legislated advantages that no other group of people have. The entirely unsurprising result has been 1.) a virulent increase in anti-Muslim resentment and hatred amongst non-Muslims and 2.) a huge increase in the already inflated sense of superiority and "specialness" of the Muslims. Neither of which has helped "integration."
France and Spain are simply trying to buy peace from the Muslims with jizyah and dhimmitude. It won't work, it hasn't worked ever in the past. Why do our leaders never look at the examples of all other civilizations which have had to endure the scourge of Islam? Do Western leaders think that we are somehow immune to all that has happened before us in India, in the Balkans, in Africa, in the Middle East and Iran?
It's Islam, stupid.
I would even be in favor of this if the "tolerance" were in any way reciprocal.
The day a Baptist or Catholic or Orthodox Christian congregation can open a church in Saudi Arabia and enjoy full protection under the law is the day we should talk about opening more mosques in the West. Until then, so far from giving them money, there should be a moratorium on new mosques.
Why, oh why, should tolerance be a one-way street?
On its face this seems an absurd proposition. However if applied in the right way, there could be some value. The vast majorit of Mosques and Madrass opened in the last 20 years in North America and Europe have been funded one way or another by the Wahabist Saudis or the IRanians. As a result, they are extraordinarily radical, orthodox and hateful. There is a relative absence of reform minded Islamic institutions. IN fact until recently in TOronto, there was a chhoice between attending one of many very strict mosques, or no mosque at all. Recently a MOsque in TOronto opened which allows men and women to pray together, and is based on much more moderate views. Most members are professionals, dress in Western garb and co-exist well with other faiths. If funds were tied to mosques or MAdrass tha tstrictly adhere to human rights principles, hate laws, equality of sexes etc....perhaps moderate muslims (and we all know many) could find a voice to compete with the lunatics that seem to speak for Islam today.
The only "helping hand" they want is the hand that helps itself to everything you have! More than 1350 years has shown us the veracity of this pattern.
Better in the country where they have sex on park benches and roll their toilet water down the streets than here in the United States. France became a waste long ago.
Something is going on here that we better start to understand.
This is not just "helping a religion", since why aren't they helping Scientologists as well. Instead, France and Germany condemns and prosecutes Scientology, which is regarded as a religion in America and Australia. I'm not defending Scientology, which I regard as a scary religion, but how can France be opposed to Scientology while funding mosques, all the while still claiming to be a secular country. Spain also is funding mosques.
Now, something is going on here which we don't know the full details of, but it seems to me that Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, might actually have more political power in Europe than what we could even dream of, and the hate laws in France which prevent Robert Spencer from publishing his book in France and which sent Brigitte Bardot almost to jail, might show just how much Arab nations are pulling the strings.
As much as I dislike the BNP and Le Pen, I would not hesitate to vote for them if I lived in France or Britain,as they may well be the last hope for Europe. We may not have much more time. Things seem to be happening very very quickly.

If civilized countries have to choose between radical mosques financed by Saudi Arabia and moderate mosques financed by western governments,the only logical choice should be NO MOSQUES AT ALL.
