Iran: "We must have two bombs ready to go in January or you are not Muslims"

Great. The bomb will be ready just in time for President Kerry's inauguration, so he won't have to worry about sending them that nuclear fuel. From WND, with thanks to Joseph D'Hippolito:

Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged his country's weapons developers to step up work on making a nuclear bomb, a U.S. official said, according to Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service.

According to the official, an authoritative source in the Iranian exile community has stated that Khamenei met recently with senior government and military leaders on the nuclear weapons program.

Khamenei told the gathering, "We must have two bombs ready to go in January or you are not Muslims," the official said.

Jafari-Jalali, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Majles, stated in an Iranian press interview last week that the recent International Atomic Energy Agency resolution calling on Iran to halt uranium enrichment could lead to Tehran withdrawing from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Iran's military announced earlier this month that it would test-fire a "strategic" missile during the Ashura 5 military exercises of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami announced the missile test on Sept. 18. "The climax of this stage of the exercises is the actual missile operations and the testing of a series of missiles with different ranges," he said.

Iranian Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani said earlier this month that "given that an effective deterrent policy does not halt at a certain point, the Islamic Republic of Iran continues upgrading its defensive capability."

Go, Israel!

Enough of these people. If Kerry is elected, he won't have to worry about Saudi Arabia- he'll be too busy granting concessions to Iran and North Korea.

So if the 2 bombs arent ready then according to khamenei....there will be no muslims in iran....if only it were that easy

Iranian Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani said earlier this month that "given that an effective deterrent policy does not halt at a certain point, the Islamic Republic of Iran continues upgrading its defensive capability."

Defensive capability??? The only country Iran needed to defend against was Iraq when Saddam was in control.
Nowadays the only attacks they have to worry about are from the US (or maybe Israel) when they bomb ten bails of crap out of the nuclear facilities used to make these bombs.

To me it seems more like offensive capability.

Never trust an Iranian PoliticiaN.

When Kerry wins the two bombs will be used as part of the fireworks at his inaugeration ceremony? Very exciting!!!

P.S. Just hope he has his inauguration on a desert island. He likes getting a tan.

I did mean "remote" desert island you know.

The sooner Israel and/or the US launch a nuclear preemptive strike, the better.

Time Bush demonstrates his Iron resolve and deal with Iran now rather than await the reulsts of an uncertain election. After all, Bush is Bush because he is willing to walk the tough talk and care two hoots about world opinion should America's security demand it, right?

Let the Dems say whatever they want about 'suspicious timing' but Bush should launch pre-emptive attacks on iranian nukes before nov.2. Any other bets, anyone?

Obl r us,

Does that mean , from your post, that you're resigned to believing Kerry will win the election now???

If so, is this the general view of most Americans???

Oh, and after Karl, the pacifistic Holocaust-denier-sympathizer, assured us that Iran was only working on producing nuclear material for peaceful purposes.

Surely some mistake!

Rikki

Apologies. I am australian, not an american so I can't really comment accurately on how americans will vote. Polls seem to suggest that australians will vote back in their George Bush equivalent (i.e. Howard)...we will be voting tommorrow. Kerry is gaining in the polls though and is behaving and speaking like a true dmminni unfortunately.

Attention

do you think this is what he was talking about?

NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK HE MEANS BY THAT??

Presently many of the scholars in Iraq are engaging in major acts of disbelief, which takes them out of the fold of Islam in board daylight and in front of all the people, we find fatwa (verdict) from some religious organizations. This is precisely what happened after the prophet Muhammad's death; Hadith (oral) and Sunna (actions) were invented and attributed to the Prophet. Hadith and Sunna are satanic innovations because they:

AGAIN WHAT DO YOU THINK HE MEANS BY THIS??

It will be impossible to verify the casualty situation on the ground, but thousands of men, women and children will be among those killed and wounded in these strikes.

Without a immediate truce for the Iraqi National elections; in the name of Allah I also fear with a continued insurrection the issue of Kirkuk could provoke civil war. Kurds may also call for Kirkuk's huge oil revenues to be only directed to them.

WHY WOULD HE CARE ABOUT THE OIL AND NOT THEY PEOPLE??

COULD THEY BE LOOSING CONTROL OVER THEIR MONSTERS??

if the situation does not change by November 3, 2004 all I can say is the kidnappers, insurgents and extremists do not share the same fear of Allah that I have.

LETS SEE HE IS WORRIED THE DAY AFTER THE AMERICAN ELECTION?

COULD HE BE WORRIED ABOUT KERRY THE ASS KISSER OR BUSH THE ASS KICKER??

WELL I SAY THE ASS KICKER BECAUSE HE IS STILL PRESIDENT NO MATTER WHAT UNTILL JAN.2005

WHAT WAS THAT VERSE??

Folks, I just did a little searching in the university library journals on the internet (mostly NYT). Here's what I got from mostly 1981 (titles in capital letters added by me for dramatic effect):

PRE-EMPTION 1981 PART 1: WHY NOW?

"’I for one would have never made the proposal to my colleagues under such circumstances to send our air force and bomb the reactor,’ Mr. Begin said. The Baghdad residents ‘are innocent people,’ he said.
‘It is our ethics and always has been: fight the good fight, but armed men against armed men. Never use arms against innocent and unarmed civilians.’
‘We faced a terrible dilemma,’ Mr. Begin said. ‘Should we now be passive, and then lose the last opportunity, without those horrible casualties amongst the Baghdad population, to destroy the hotbed of death?’

(David K. Shipler, "Prime minister Begin defends Raid on Iraqi nuclear reactor; Pledges to thwart a new ‘holocaust,’" NYT 6/10/81)

"Last week's raid, timed when most workers were away, killed a French technician."

("Israel’s raid on Iraq produces heavy Cloud of diplomatic Fallout," NYT 6/14/81)

PRE-EMPTION 1981 PART 2: A THANKLESS JOB

Headlines from the NYT:

"FRANCE AND BRITAIN REBUKE THE ISRAELIS" (NYT 6/16/81)

"DRAFT AT U. N. SEEKS ISRAELI PUNISHMENT" (NYT 6/17/81)

"ISRAELIS CONDEMNED BY SECURITY COUNCIL FOR ATTACK ON IRAQ" (NYT 6/20/81)

More from the NYT:

"France today termed the Israeli air strike against Iraq's French-built nuclear reactor ‘unacceptable’ and, taking issue with Israel's official account, said that a French technician had been killed in the raid. …Kurt Waldheim, Secretary General of the United Nations, who was in Tokyo on a visit, issued a statement condemning the Israeli action as a 'clear contravention of international law.'’"

(Paul Lewis, "France condemns attack and rejects Israeli account," 6/9/81)

PRE-EMPTION 1981 PART 3: THE DEFENSE

"Senator Alfonse D'Amato, a Republican, said the bombing was ‘perfectly proper, legitimate and it was a pre-emptive strike that should have been expected.'…Senator Daniel P. Moynihan, a Democrat, said the ‘Israelis did what they had to do,’ and added, ‘Anything that takes out a nuclear installation, I'm in favor of.’"

(Bernard Gwertzman, "U.S., citing possible violation of arms agreement, suspends shipment of 4 jets to Israel," NYT 6/10/81)

"So long as Iraq pursued its drive to attain a nuclear-weapons capability, and so long as the United States Government was unsuccessful in dissuading France and Italy from halting their imprudent sales to Iraq of nuclear technologies and materials that could be used for weapons, such a strike by Israel was virtually inevitable.
If a large superpower, the United States, felt such a defensive strike to be a serious option in l962, how can we condemn Israel today for making such a strike when its Government felt that the entire nation was imperiled?"

(Alan Cranston, Democratic member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, NYT 6/10/81)

"Mr. Reagan went on to endorse at least some of Israel's justifications for the raid, saying: ‘I do think that one has to recognize that Israel had reason for concern in view of the past history of Iraq, which has never signed a cease-fire or recognized Israel as a nation, has never joined in any peace effort for that. So in other words it does not even recognize the existence of Israel as a country.'’"

(Steven Weisman, "Reagan asserts Israel had cause to misttrust Iraq," NYT 6/17/81)

PRE-EMPTION 1981 PART 4: GETTING IT WRONG

Headlines from the NYT:

"CHANCES OF IRAQIS ON BOMB DOUBTED" (NYT 6/11/81)

"FRANCE SAYS IRAQIS COULDN'T HAVE BUILT A-BOMB UNDETECTED"
(NYT 6/18/81)

More form the NYT:

"In London, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher stressed in the House of Commons that Britain, like France, did not believe the Iraqi plant had the capacity to make nuclear weapons. Noting that the plant had been inspected in January by members of the International Atomic Energy Agency, she condemned the Israeli raid as a 'grave breach of international law' that appeared certain to heighten tension in the Middle East."

("Soviet charges U.S. was accomplice in the ‘act of gangsterism’ by Israelis," NYT 6/10/81)

"For all the brilliance of its execution, the raid incurred a terrible price. It further inflamed the Arab world and burdened the Moslem nations that are willing to accept the reality of Israel. It deepened the isolation of Egypt's President Sadat, whose diplomacy brought Israel more security than any of its recent military forays. It heightened distrust of America in the Middle East and opened new paths for Soviet intrusion.
Yet Americans who never dreamed a week ago of urging an attack on Iraq's reactor suddenly argue that we should all be grateful to the intrepid Israelis. They condemn President Reagan for responding even with a ritual reprimand. They pronounce France liberated from Iraq's pressure for nuclear fuel and presume Saudi and Egyptian delight at its humiliation. The cause of nonproliferation is said to have found a bold new champion. ''Anything that takes out a nuclear installation, I'm in favor of,'' says Senator Moynihan.
If that's the new realism, why stop at Baghdad? Why not throttle the Indians and Pakistanis by kidnapping their scientists? Why not sabotage or bomb the plants of Europe's nuclear exporters?
…It is no favor to Israel to keep admiring a military boldness that threatens to become a substitute for intrepid diplomacy. …A truly bold Israel would use this time of military superiority not to flaunt its power but to run more risks for accommodation, encouraging especially Palestinians to trade steps toward peace for hunks of territory."

(Editorial Desk, "The fallout from Baghdad," NYT 6/14/81)

PRE-EMPTION 1881 PART 5: …YEAH RIGHT

"’If the word of the government of Pakistan and the word of the head of state is doubted, you can offer 200 explanations and you can't remove the doubt,’ he said. President Zia has repeatedly pledged to the Reagan administration that Pakistan's nuclear program is purely peaceful, as a condition for securing $3.2 billion in military and economic assistance, including the delivery by 1986 of 40 advanced F-16 jet fighters."

(Karen Elliot and Peter Khan, Wall Street Journal 7/10/84)

"Last week's raid, timed when most workers were away, killed a French technician."

Cry me a river...

Khamenei told the gathering, "We must have two bombs ready to go in January or you are not Muslims".
I guess they'll turn into Buddhists?

Rikki and Obl r us:
What you really have to look at here is the Electoral College vote, and things aren't looking too good for Mr. Kerry at this point. I remain optimistic president Cheney will be re-elected in November.

Remember It was the King of Jordan who Looked Gen.Tommy Franks in the Eye and told him YES saddam has WMDs and also President of Egypt said the same looked Gen.Tommy Franks in the Eye and said Yes I know that saddam has the WMDs??

All along playing with fire with Iran to be the the one who tries to get it through Russia ??

Untill they could no longer control the monsters the have loosed on the world??

Now the Iranis say they can't trust mulsums?? are they not the same?

Once again they covent what they do not have and this will Destroy them?

There is no unity again boming in paris?

French and Germans will not help because they don't think they are worth fighting for?

The mullahs believe that nuclear capability will bring more security to Iran when the truth is that it will make them less secure. When Pakistan tested its "Islamic bomb", the targeting matrices in the U.S., Russian, Chinese, Indian, French, and U.K. strategic systems were instantly updated to reflect the new reality. As a rule, preprogrammed strategic targeting is only directed at WMD threats.

Everybody in the club knows the rules and a large number of those rules (protocols) cut right through the bullsh*t. Everybody knows that all the cards in this game are played face up. If any member begins to credibly rattle the WMD sabre, it is in the strategic interests of every other member to remind the rattlers that all the other member forces are ready to respond to the slightest hint of WMD launch by the would-be aggressor. There is no "measured" response scenario. The MAD doctrine prevails and it is very real.

Just so that everyone in the world can know how serious the United States is about this game, the U.S. is very public about how the system works. You read about it yourself: USSTRATCOM.

Hmmm. . .Maybe we should carry out some tests of our updated Patriot anti-missile defense system at the very next opportunity. . . That would be at exactly the time the next series of Iranian missiles takes place, of course.

Or perhaps we should give the crews of the submarines that are cruising just off shore, within spitting distance of Tehran, some real-life practice. The guys who shoot the missiles on those subs are champion computer game players, and they shoot those damned things incredibly well!

Hey, Israel, given the collapse of a goodly portion of Old Europe, it may be up to the two of us. Hang in there, people! It may not always seem like it, but we're on your side!

Kerry doesn't get it,these idiots are willing to blow themselves up with the rest of us just so them can get laid in Paradise with Allah and all those virgins.

obl r us and Rikki:
Yesterday for the first time in this race, Bush trailed Kerry in the electoral vote count at www.electoral-vote.com. Several erstwhile red states like Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Winsconsin may go Blue now. I think its the Debate drubbing's showing up after its expected 4-5 day lag. The margins are razor thin and the fight may yet go either way but judging by trends (and the fact that there's another debate up tonite) I'm less than optimistic about my candidate's (Who else, George W) chances this election. Of course I could go on and on about why this election can be pivotal in a historical sense (or as Intel great Andy Grove likes to say, an 'inflexion point') but Bush's many mistakes are now beginning to weigh down his campaign. I can feel that familiar despondency in my stomach like when India's gonna lose a winnable (cricket) match - what our desi commentators call snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - and Sachin's wicket just fell..... Sure India has gone on to win a few (and only a few) of those matches and who knows the same will happen this election too... [Used cricket analogy coz the brits and the aussies understand what its like batting on a sticky wicket, eh?]

It isnt about Bush or Kerry. Its about the right of infidels to survive

Maybe we will get lucky and the smart Moslems will forget to take the detonators out before they ship them and when they pick them up...... Bam! No more Iran.....
I pray its that easy.....
