His ethical judgment seems to be about as good as his recent movies. Maybe he doesn't find politics "profound enough" because of the moronic simplicity of his flattening of all moral distinctions. From Der Spiegel, with thanks to Anthony:
I just don't find political topics profound enough to deal with as an artist. After all, the entire history of mankind consists of murders. It's just the cosmetics, the decoration that changes. In 2001, a few fanatics killed Americans, and now Americans are killing a few Iraqis. When I was a child, the Nazis killed the Jews. Now the Jews and the Palestinians are killing each other. Over the thousands of years, politics is too fleeting an affair, too unimportant, because everything repeats itself. But I'm a citizen, so of course I'll vote.
An argument against democracy if I ever saw one.
More like an argument for contraception.
Woody Allen and morality? yeah wasn't he bedding his teen step daughter or something similar, whilst he was married to Mia?
Joe Bananas
Speaking of the looney left, Woody Allen conveniently forgets his 1971 movie "Bananas", where he sports a long beard and portrays a dictator of a banana republic.
His interest in the safe subject of Castro's Communism at that time, which inspired his movie and his current lack of interest in Islamism as a cinematic project, must be due to his interest in remaining healthy.
I personally, dislike it when celebrity figures offer such insights to the foreign press. However in fairness to Mr. Allen, he was in Munich with his band last month.

Don't be too hard on Woody Allen. He's wealthy, successful, and spends a lot of time in Europe. What do you expect?
My favorite Woody Allen movie is "Sleeper". He goes to the hospital for a routine operation and wakes up 500 years later in a radically changed America.
My favorite scene was when the scientists in the new fascist state are showing him artifacts from the 1970's that they cannot explain. One artifact is the "Chattering teeth", which the archaeologists are baffled by. Woody winds the teeth and as the chattering draws blank stares from the scientists, Woody is attempting to explain that this is to 'get gags at a party, very funny".
There is a lot of political commentary in that movie. Imagine Concerns for technology, and population growth were of primary focus in the 1970's.
Now it is completely possibly that waking up 500 years in the future in America could very well mean seeing an unrecognizable country with an Islamic theocracy governing its one billion citizens.
A sort of "planet of the Apes" scenario.
Andrew says:
"A sort of "planet of the Apes" scenario."
I can also imagine Roddenberry's race of Klingons seizing US space technology to launch proselytizing missions upon unsuspected aliens outside of our galaxy.
The Klingons being an alias, of course, for the Islamic horde. Roddenberry knew!
Klingons are the hordes and the Borg is Islamic group thought!
Wood Allen was indeed playing to his European audience. Obviously he's selling to THEIR Anti-Americanism.
Sometimes Woody Allen can't see beyond the end of his nose or outside his own circle of friends and acquaintances as do many of the so-called elite. Perhaps to enormity of the danger poses a problem that they can not grasp when one holds so narrow a world view, seeing the trees and missing the forest. In this case, they should avoid looking at the forest altogether from a cliff-vantage point for a sobering change of view.
Will they bravely make a change or scurry back to enjoy their zones of comfort until the bitter end? I wouldn't bet the farm on the change.
The Woodman is extremely popular in France. 'nuff said on that one.
This is way off topic, but it may have something to do with moral distinctions.
I was reading about the Sinai bombings on the Egyptian newspaper, Al Ahram, and came across this article about the ten Egyptian dead from that blast:
http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2004/712/eg3.htm
Please read the paragraph (from their website, not my copied/pasted version) and "click" on the highlighted and underlined words: "wedding ring".
I found the link that I was directed to be rather enlightening on the "moral distinctions" of the editors of this "intellectual" paper.
Here is the copied/pasted paragraph of interest:
"Thirty-two-year-old Ahmed Abdel-Aziz, for instance, was a hotel security employee. The only part that remained of his body was a hand with his wedding ring on it."
Concerning my previous post.
I wonder if my pc has a virus or something because when I posted the words, wedding ring, in quotes, it linked (not my intention either)to a site which sells wedding rings.
Does anybody know anything about this?
Later in the interview when asked about 'lies about the war' etc. Allen says,
"People who are pro-Bush aren't interested in good arguments. "I know, and it doesn't matter," his supporters say, "but I just like the guy." And that's that."
The implicature of the interview is that Allen is a profound thinker whose views and arguments deserve serious attention. We might rephrase Allen's remarks:
"People who are pro-Allen aren't interested in good arguments. "I know, and it doesn't matter," his fans say, "but I just like the guy." And that's that."
Now that was funny.
Moe's Foe...
You have spyware on your computer. most likely "gator"... Update your windows security. get spybot, adaware and keep your virus protection up and running. I recently had to erase my hard drive from the corruption to my regestry.
I never had an opinion on left or right until 2001. Now I will watch where I put my entertainment money closely and try not to put it into the hands of idiots like him.
Thanks Weatherob.
And, now knowing that, I take back everything I said about the Al-Ahram editors.
My apologies for my ignorance.
Moe's Foe: not a problem....
Oh and by the way, Klingons are not the trekien (is that a word?) equivalent to Islamofacists....
Klingons have Honor.... No Klingon would blow himself up to kill kids getting candy. Even if the are getting candy from the enemy.
Romulans on the other hand?.... I have to think this one out.
Weatherob,
Touche.
But did anyone ever notice how, on Star Trek NG, the Cardassians were an obvious mixture between the Nazis and the Israelis?? Talk about improbrable!! And the Bajorans were a combinant form of Jews and Palestinians.
My only regret is that they never really had anyone closely resembling Islamic Jihadists, except for the Borg -- who assimilated all species into their robot-like existence. Islam, on the other hand, quickly extinguishes whatever cultural existing cultural relics which don't fit into Mohhammed's vision.
Thanks again Weatherob.
I did download a spyware software and it did indicate that I had 133 possible "infections".
I ran the cleanup, but the spyware that I have encountered was not "cleaned up".
When I read Kafira's post, the words "Star Trek" are highlighted and underlined.
It is time to do what you did. Format the drive.
Thanks again.
