Sparked by what they call credible threats, Sacramento-area FBI and immigration officials have stepped up interviews, surveillance and investigations leading up to the Nov. 2 election. Though federal officials say they're responding broadly to potential terror attacks here and nationwide, local Middle Eastern and Muslim residents argue that they are being targeted based on their race and national origin. The National Lawyers Guild office in the Bay Area, which maintains a hotline for people who have been approached by the FBI, has received three calls from Sacramento-area residents who said they were recently contacted."We believe efforts are being concentrated in the Sacramento area right now," said Mel Campagna, the National Lawyers Guild representative who responds to hotline calls. "The FBI came to them at home and at work. They were asking questions about people at the mosques they attend."
Last week, Keith Slotter, the special agent in charge of Sacramento's FBI office, met with area Muslim leaders to explain the effort, answer their questions and "allay any fears," he said.
It's a shame that the Muslim leaders don't feel compelled to meet initiate meetings with law enforcement officials in order to allay any fears on their side.
Slotter said the effort isn't based on people's ethnic origin or religion.But area residents from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia call this another in a string of government initiatives that discriminate against them.
Still smarting from the recent program that required men from predominately Arab countries to report to immigration officials, local Muslim leaders say the government is selectively enforcing laws against them.
"The agenda is not going after terrorists," said Kais Menoufy, CEO and president Delegata, a Sacramento technology consulting firm. "The agenda is to intimidate Muslims and create fear among Americans."
Menoufy, a U.S. citizen originally from Egypt, attended Slotter's meeting and believes the crackdown is politically driven.
McGregor Scott, the U.S. attorney in Sacramento, also attended the meeting and said federal officials are merely basing their investigations on past patterns.
"Al-Qaida is the number-one terrorist threat the nation faces. Al-Qaida is a Muslim-oriented group," he explained. "We're not targeting anybody. We're looking at the threat."...
Mustafa, a 40-year-old business owner who asked not to be identified by his full name, is one local resident who says he has been interviewed by the FBI.
Now a U.S. citizen, Mustafa came to the United States from Syria and attends mosque regularly.
In June, the south Sacramento resident said, two FBI agents came to his home and asked if they could question him.
Mustafa said they spent 10 to 15 minutes asking him what mosque he attends, what country other members of the mosque come from and whether he had any suspicious activities to report.
"I didn't have anything to hide, so I had no problem with them," he said.
But Mustafa said he received another call from the FBI agents in late August requesting another interview. This time, he called the local Council on American-Islamic Relations chapter and was referred to an attorney.
The attorney told the FBI that Mustafa didn't want to participate in the interview because he had nothing new to add.
Mustafa hasn't been contacted since but said the experience has unsettled him.
"In Syria, they targeted you for whatever reason," he said. "Here, you should be free from being targeted because of your religion or background."
Maybe you should be. But how would Mustafa advise law enforcement officials to deal with a threat that comes only from people of a particular religion?
Just like over here in the UK, the US's economy is suffering (expenses for added security) because immigration laws are so pathetically lax, muslims are being allowed to stream into our countries in uncontrolled numbers. Stop letting them in.
We don't want them here anyway, they hide terrorists amongst them, and defend them (no muslim no matter how "moderate" would turn over a fellow jihadist, out of either respect or fear).We just can't be sure who is extreme or moderate any more so whats the point in taking such a gamble ( I say gamble, but thats actually the wrong word to use, because even if terrorists were successfully screened, we'd have nothing to gain out of it...)???
What really riles me up is how they whine about how they are:

....Errr!!! Excuse me dumb-ass, but you are being targeted because it is 100% likely that muslims will be the perpetrators of a terrorist attack against the US!!!
God, it's so infuriating, but what annoys me even more is that CAIR (Cruddy Arabs In Rags) will happily jump on the band-wagon and ensure that the poor oppressed muslims are painted as much like innocent victims as possible, with the aim of causing as stir amongst bleeding heart liberals.
Maybe if these people did something about it, like tipped-off cops as to where terrorist are living (a threat we ,by rights should not have to worry about in our own country), the wouldn't have to be "targeted".
In the middle east an regime such as Saddams would have flattened a town, and everyone in it, had it been harbouring anyone who dared to so much as speak out against him, let alone threaten terrorist action. My point being they are priveledged to be in a great, free nation such as America, and yet they still have the gall to cry "discrimmination".... they've never had it so friggin' easy, so they should shut there mouths NOW, or maybe Bush ought to start making them feel a little more at home.
Good morning to all. I'm pleased to pass on that my latest column, posted in the Newark Advocate on 10/12/04 has garnered its first complaint from an angry Muslim. There's a good chance that this Muslim either did, or still does work for our favorite Muslim advocacy group.
Below is the content of the article. Isn't it odd how they get so upset at the truth?
Beware of non-violent terrorism
Necessary information has been kept from the American public. Obviously, we've been mistaken for being gullible, and intellectually limited. Thus, our generosity and hospitality have been abused, all while being unaware of a looming, dangerous agenda.
While many Muslims in America live life, obeying our laws, just happy to have their heads attached, some Islamic organizations here publicly insist on preferential treatment for Muslims. Issues and lawsuits involving headscarves (hijab) being worn with police or basketball uniforms, or faces being covered in driver license photos for example, have certainly been ridiculous, not to mention a waste of time and taxpayer dollars.
This non-violent approach is an attempt to gain a political foothold in America through the use of our own Constitution. While their numbers are small, they work to convert Americans to Islam, and call for legal changes to eliminate what allegedly offends or targets them, while relying on reproduction and immigration to increase their populace so that generations from now, an Islamic State (Caliphate) would possibly be more acceptable in the United States. This type of infestation has already begun throughout Europe.
While Muslim “Guest Speakers” tell our school students that Christianity and Islam are nearly the “same religion”, Qur’an verses 4:89, 5:17, 5:51, and 8:12, among others, prove otherwise.

In America, convictions and deportations of Muslims for terror and fraud related crimes are increasing. Appeasement is no option. Imagining them governing America would be comparable to seeing Barney Fife sworn in as Mayor of Mayberry. No matter who ends up leading this great nation, immediate immigration control is vital to the survival of American culture. If these groups wish to refute this column, then perhaps a public forum face-off is due.

I will add that the infiltration and subversion of our university and schools system is non-violent terrorism, the greasing of palms through bribes, consultants fees, influence peddling, lobbying, etc., is non-violent terrorism, as well as the blaring of bullhorns five times a day in the call to prayer, and the insistence that they receive special treatment and privileges simply because they are Muslim is non-violent terrorism. I could go on, but you all get the picture.

In a Virtual Internment Camp: Muslim Americans since 9/11

Since the events of September 11, 2001, Muslims and brown-skinned people in this country are under siege. While many have in fact been picked up and jailed without any probable cause, the majority are living in virtual internment camps. The climate for Muslims today is very much as it was for Americans of Japanese descent during World War II. Japanese-Americans in the Western states were rounded up and moved to internment camps so they wouldn't aid and abet the enemy. In a similar fashion, Muslims and other brown-skinned people perceived to be Muslim, are treated like the enemy and are also living in internment camps. The difference is the camps of today are virtual.
Concerted harassment by government officials, destructive and draconian laws aimed at limiting freedoms, media indifference, hate-filled public figures, and an apathetic citizenry have all come together to build the virtual internment camps that house the American Muslim community.
Since 9/11, Muslims in America are living in fear. This fear has had the effect of a collective paralysis on the Muslim community and has made it easier for government officials and agencies to systematically dismantle the civil rights of this minority. There are three specific factors which together have fomented this fear: government action, irresponsible media, and the hate speech of some national leaders.

Federal agents deported 75 percent more undocumented Arabs and Muslims last year than the year before, a marked shift in immigration enforcement. At the same time, officials booted out 16 percent fewer illegal immigrants overall as they shifted their focus away from Mexicans. According to a Philadelphia Inquirer analysis of 1993-2002 deportation data, the INS deported 3,208 people from the 33 'high-risk' Muslim countries. According to the National Lawyers Guild, 'People with serious breaches of the law are not looked at, while in the Muslim or Arab community somebody with a minor violation automatically gets deported.' At this moment 13,434 Muslim immigrants who registered as part of the INS's Special Registration Program are facing deportation.
Since 9/11, President Bush has consistently said that Islam is a religion of peace and warned against anti-Muslim prejudice. However, one of his close personal advisors and an influential public figure, Rev. Franklin Graham, called Islam a 'very wicked and evil' religion. Daniel Pipes, President Bush's nominee to the United States Institute of Peace, a federal agency that gives grants and hosts scholars, suggests that mosques in America are breeding grounds for militants.
A January 2002 poll showed that some 24% of Americans had a negative view of Islam and Muslims. By October, that number had risen to 33%. The most recent PEW Foundation survey found that the number as of July 2003 was 44%. The number of Americans who think this way is increasing as the 'war on terror' continues.
Muslims in this country are being persecuted solely on the basis of their religious affiliation but because of our secretive government, complicit media, and hate-spewing public figures Americans are unaware of most things and don't care about what they do know.
No where in this article does it state that the reason for the intense scrutiny, is that this segment of our society is where the threat comes from.
They talk about 9/11, but it's almost as if, we, Americans are supposed to by pass this fact of our history.
We were attacked and it wasn't Mexicans or Swedes, it was Muslims.

It is comforting to know that our law enforcement is undertaking these measures to root out the evil doers that conspire to do us harm. And of course they understand their best defense is to play the old race / discrimination card and garner public sympathy. The fact that the unfavorable opinion of Muslim / Islam is rising should be a clue to them that they are not doing enough to show the american population that they reject in its entirety the radical elements of Islam. As the old adage goes, their silence speaks volumes. For me personally, their silence as a whole is nothing less than approval for the radical Islam movement. One of the great things about this country is freedom of choice.I would say to any and all of the Arab / Muslim / middle easterners, it is in your own best interest to be co-operative with law enforcement officials. If you don't feel comfortable here you are free to return to your country of origin.

CAIR-Canada's own website posts information kits on knowing your rights,CAIR encourages Muslims to learn about their right to not aid the RCMP or CSIS when investigating terrorism or terror groups alleged to be working from a Mosque.
CAIR has yet to post a kit on Muslims "Responsibilities" that come with those "Rights" when they agree to live in America. There are too many cases in the media of Muslims failing to help the FBI or immigration,the "Catch us if you can" mindset doesn't help the image of Islam and portrays an
acceptance of crimes from those with MiddleEast background.
Does anybody remember the Atlanta Child-killer,Wayne Williams murdered young Black males and knew he could do it because the Police would focus on looking for a White serial-killer since that's the normal profile. The perception of being called a "Racist" or "Bigot" may have been the factor in assuming the killer was White,sadly when the Police arrested a Black male the screams of "Racism" echoed in the Courts and very few talked about the several merders that might have been avoided if both sides focused on the "Killer" and not the "Colour". This logic is now replaced with the word "Islamophobe"
and "Racism" which allows some Jihadists and Islamists in America to roam freely amongst the Muslim population.
CAIR and others gloat at the fact that the 19 hijackers were allowed to commit the 9/11 slaughter,the National security and immigration system was blamed and Muslims washed their hands of any connection to Islam and the attack.
If Islam has nothing to do with Muslim terrorism,then Muslims have nothing to do with Islam,the two can't be seperated when the Quran is cited for acts of violence.

susan_b - "Virtual Internment of Muslims." Muslims in America have only a taste of what non-Muslims go through in other countries. If we were under attack by white Methodists, then, logically, they would be targeted for surveillance and rounded up for questioning.
Everyone should read Michelle Malkin's In Defense of Internment that describes the evidence that was used against enemy nationals and American citizens during WWII. Many were Germans and Italians, but, as has been touted, most were Japanese, some of which were actively spying and reporting back to Japan, and were committing acts of sabotage and were plotting large and dangerous attacks. Sounds familiar doesn't it!
"You should be free from being targeted [by investigators] because of your religion" complains one Arab Muslim who has managed to make it to these shores, without having felt the need to jettison a belief-system inimical to the indigenous non-Muslims, and to every bit of their own political, economic, social, and intellectual understandings, as developed over time. If for the word "religion" one simply substitutes, in discussing Islam -- and never fails to substitute, in any discussion -- the word "belief-system," or "ideology," then one simply can rephrase the complaint and see it for the baseless whine it is:
"You should be free from being targeted [by investigators] for your belief-system" is how it would now read, and one would more readily reply: Why? Why shouldn't those who bring with them in their mental baggage a belief-system that is immutably hostile to all who do not share those beliefs -- that is, to all Infidels -- why should we not take it upon ourselves to engage in those minimal acts of self-preservation that would certainly justify not merely investigating, but removing from our midst those who cannot possibly, when they swear allegiance to the American Constitution, mean it -- for the Constitutional stands in direct contrast, in every major provision, to the dictates of the Shari'a. The two cannot coexist, and any Believer owes his undivided loyalty to Islam, to the umma al-islamiyya. Anyone who claims that is false, that he can be a "good and loyal American" and still be a "Muslim," either is lying flat out, or simply does not understand what intellectual undertakings must be made for one to be a "loyal American." Diversity's virtues may be sung, but the immigrant Hindu or Buddhist does not represent the kind of permanently hostile force that Muslims do -- and as, according to the central tenets of their faith, they must. For what else does the example of Muhammad the aggressive warrrior, the thousands of hadith that preach murderous hostility toward Infidels, the more than 100 passages in the Qur'an that discuss jihad -- what else can all this mean except that those who take all or much of this seriously are permanent enemies, no matter how outwardly smiling and affable (and there are plenty of those smiles, much of that affability, to go around), of all Infidels. Let us at least pay Islam not the jizya, but the mental tribute of taking its teachings about Infidels seriously.

I am testimony to the over 1,490,000 Iraqi men, women and children that Saddam Hussein would not purchase Medicine or Medical equipment for with his Billions of Dollars. Saddam Hussein chose to just watch million of poor Iraqi’s die without helping them or caring for them.

Some of my brothers have forgotten these edicts are blaspheme against Allah and the Prophet Muhammad taught to follow these Edicts or Fatwa is evil.
If a kidnapper uses these Edicts of Fatwa for example cut the head off a hostage aid worker; the Holy Quran, guarantees punishment, "In the fires of Hell, wherein they shall dwell forever."
Just as important suicide bombers I am warning that the Quran, taught any person who intentionally kills themselves, "they certainly will be punished in the fire of Hell, wherein they shall dwell forever and ever."
