Arafat Reported Clinically Dead; PM Denies

Arafat's personal hell will be that wherever he is in hell he will be blown to bits by a nearby car bomb. Only to reappear in a cafe just a suicide bomber detonates. Booom! Only to reapper at an intersection in hell and BOOOOM! Blown to bits again.. Only to reappear on a sidewalk just as a car pulls up alongside and KABOOOM! Shredded! Israel's Channel Two television cited unnamed sources in Paris saying that Arafat underwent a brain scan and was found to be "no longer alive."

That's inconclusive. They would have had the same results any time in the last forty years, at least.

One wonders what kind of political scrambling is going on behind the scenes. Seems like every day since he flew out of Israel, they've been denying one thing after another.

I will be curious to see what happens when they fly him back to be buried. Will there be calls for even more violence against Israel, or will more sensible people finally step in and take things back to pre-Arafat days, when palestinian unemployment was only 5% and most of them were happy to deal with the Israelis?

Everyone in the world, outside the E.U. bureacracy and the chanceries of countries in Western Europe, knows that Arafat pocketed most of the money that was supplied for the "Palestinian" people. And apparently he kept those keys and codes pretty close to his vest, or chest, or whatever.

So imagine how Erekat and the rest of them have been hovering about over the last few weeks, trying to obtain from him -- tell us, tell us, we need to know -- details as to where all the money was stashed. Of course he owned a lot of real estate at one time in Heliopolis (part of Cairo, where he was born), but probably most of it is in stocks and bonds, and comforting gold bars.

Imagine how eager his loyal aides are, collectively and of course individually -- remember that Riviera penthouse of Zuheir Mohsein? -- so as to keep them living in the style to which, in a small way, they had grown accustomed -- but how much more wonderful to get their hands on all that loot now that the Godfather was out of the way.

But what if he didn't spill the beans? It would be like the Treasure of Sierra Madre.

For those looking for their next Hollywood movie, here goes (and I expect a healthy cut):

We see a Hanan-Ashrawi type, explaining how the Khuzistanian people have been plowing their anceint soil from time immemorial (turns out they arrived, pushed out from the Nejd when the Al-Saud were defeating the Jabal Shammar, in 1920). Lots of fake history, fake "Khuzistanian" folk songs, Khuzistanian "handcrafts," the works.

Now The Maximum Leader is dying. And everyone in his retinue knows about the money. And each one, in turn, wants the Dying Leader to tell him where it is -- so he, and only he, can get his hands on it.

Casting? Boris Karloff, alas, is dead, but makeup artists can do wonders. Start with someone who looks sinister to begin with (Christopher Walken?), and work from there. Recycle, perhaps, some of the saloon lowlife in "The Three Amigos."

Or perhaps the "Team America" puppeteers could go into action. Yes, puppets might be even better, and less spent on inflated Hollywood salaries, the more money for the originator of the idea, who needs all he can get.

This script has possibilities. This movie would have legs. All over Europe, Eurabian-sick customers would flock to see it. I won't even talk about the domestic market, videos, DVD, the whole thing.

While natural causes are probable, there do exist a range of slow-acting but very powerful toxins used by the former KGB that sound similiar to the symptoms I have heard reported.

I will be very interested to see who is chosen to replace Arafat among the Palestians, and what effect that may have on hopes for a peace process.

Oh, but the doctors might be able to make him well if they only knew what was wrong with him...But, if they are having trouble diagnosing death, then how would they be able to diagnose this 'mysterious illness', that a PA spokeswoman said a few days ago would take them 'a few days' to diagnose, and said yesterday that is would take 'a day'?

We must remember before he went to France all the doctors who were from other arab country's who went to see him and remember those first pictures and the Pali who would not let him kiss his hand? Remember they didn't take him to a normal hospital but a military hospital?

At a press conference the spokesperson for the Percy Military Hospital held at 6:30 p.m. said Arafat was not dead, but did not give his condition.

"Mr. Arafat is not dead," Christian Estripeau told a news conference in a brief statement that lasted three minutes.

What can we imagine George Patton might say about the present war? Lots. Based on what he himself said and wrote, his record in the field, and what scholars have written about him, I think we have some reasonable ideas. I'll begin with Patton's strategic thinking, then follow with suppositions about tactical and operational doctrine.

Patton was not merely a great tactician, as Eisenhower seemed to think in deprecating his larger advice about the nature and purpose of World War II. Indeed, he understood far more about strategy and global politics than either Eisenhower or Bradley. A fine illustration of his superior insight arose over disagreement regarding the "endgame" in Europe: When the so-called Big Four - Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin and Chiang Kai-shek - apparently decided in late 1944 and early 1945 that the Allied demarcation line was to be at the Elbe River rather than Berlin or the Polish border, news quickly leaked out. As Patton was barreling through southern Germany, he sensed quickly that the German armies in April and May were preferring to surrender to Allied troops and thus fleeing toward the Western front. Would an Allied capture of Berlin ahead of Russian troops really become Eisenhower's and Bradley's predicted bloodbath if Germans were assured that the city would end up in the American sphere of postbellum influence?

Mr. President, here we go again, here we go again.

Rushing to give aid and comfort to the enemy.

Pushing and pulling and shoving and leaping over one another to assign blame and point the finger at America the Terrible.

Lining up in long lines at the microphones to offer apologies to those poor, pitiful Iraqi prisoners.

Of course, I do not condone all the things that went on in that prison, but I for one, Mr. President, refuse to join in this national Act of Contrition over it.

Those who are wringing their hands and shouting so loudly for “heads to roll” over this seem to have conveniently overlooked the fact that someone’s head HAS rolled - that of another innocent American brutally murdered by terrorists.

Why is it? Why is it that there’s more indignation over a photo of a prisoner with underwear on his head than over the video of a young American with no head at all?

Why is it that some in this country still don’t get that we are at war? A war against terrorists who are plotting to kill us every day. Terrorists who will murder Americans at any time any place any chance they get.

And yet here we are, America on its knees, in front of our enemy, begging for their forgiveness over the mistreatment of prisoners.

Showing the enemy and the world once again how easily America can get sidetracked and how easily America can turn against it self.

Yes, some of our soldiers went too far with their interrogation tactics and clearly were not properly trained to handle such duty.

But the way to deal with this is with swift and sure punishment, and immediate and better training.

There also needs to be more careful screening of who it is we put in these kinds of sensitive situations.

And no one wants to hear this, Mr. President and I’m reluctant to say it. But there should also be some serious questioning of having male and female soldiers serving side by side in these kinds of military missions.

But instead, I worry that the HWA - the Hand-Wringers of America - will add to their membership and continue to bash our country ad nauseam. And in doing so, hand over more innocent Americans to the enemy on a silver platter.

So I stand with Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma, who stated that he’s “more outraged by the outrage” than by the treatment of those prisoners.

More outraged by the outrage. It’s a good way of putting it. That’s exactly how this Senator from Georgia feels.

Malaysia Arrests Key Figure in Nuclear Trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – A Sri Lankan businessman accused of brokering black market deals for nuclear technology was arrested Friday in Malaysia, government officials said.
Buhary Syed Abu Tahir, who allegedly worked with disgraced Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan to sell nuclear secrets to rogue states, was detained for threatening Malaysia's national security, officials told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Tahir is the most senior known member of Khan's network to have been arrested since details about its operations to sell nuclear know-how and equipment to Libya, Iran and North Korea came to light earlier this year.
Khan was pardoned by Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf after admitting wrongdoing and pleading for clemency.
In a speech in February alleging details of Khan's proliferation activities, President Bush named Tahir as "the network's chief financial officer and money launderer."
Tahir was arrested Friday on an order signed by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi under security laws that allow for indefinite detention without trial, and was immediately sent to a prison camp in northern Malaysia, the officials said.

Anybody recall the incident a some years years that [I think it was] a Bulgarian Diplomat got sick and as I recall the Doctors couldnt find a cause. Wasn't until he died and they did an autopsy that it was discovered that he had a b.b. sized metal ball imbedded in his leg. When it was removed and examined it was found to have been hollowed out and it tested positive for Ricin. As I recall the article it was a "hit" on the guy by the Romanian secret police with the help of the KGB who developed the weapon which was an umbrella. Sorry but it's been so long since I read about it I cannot remember too many of the details other than Ricin, when concocted properly is extremely deadly in minute amounts and death does not occur immediatly but is spread over a period of time, several days or weeks. Perhaps someone was able to spike old Arafatties punch with a little Ricin or something equivalent.
