Ain't it always the way? These inept, bumbling officials mistranslate these subtle texts, leading them to think (of all things!) that they teach ... hatred and violence!
I get this all the time. Muslim spokesmen say: "You are quoting a translation. You can't understand what is being said except in the original Arabic." This is an effective tactic, since I can't very well quote the Arabic on a radio or TV show, and so the non-Muslim looks like an "ignorant Islamophobe" misunderstanding these magnificently nuanced texts. But of course, all this falls to the ground because of the plentiful and readily available texts translated by Muslims for Muslims. Are we to believe that Muslim translators also abused these texts?
As for Leghaei's notebook, I haven't seen it, but based on what is below I doubt it is a mistranslation. His notes that I have put in bold type are standard jihad doctrine, echoed in a thousand Islamic sources.
From The Australian, with thanks to Kevin:
A LEADING Islamic cleric was discovered returning to Sydney with a 150-page notebook on tactics for warfare, intelligence and martyrdom, a court has been told. ASIO translated Mansour Leghaei's notebook, which focuses on "infiltration, deception tactics, martyrdom and the euphoria of fighting a jihad outside one's borders".Details of the notebook are contained in documents lodged in a Federal Court case brought by Sheik Leghaei to stop his deportation.
ASIO has twice assessed Sheik Leghaei, who runs an education centre and charity in suburban Sydney, as a risk to national security, leading to multiple visa cancellations.
Questioned about spying
ASIO has interviewed the Iranian-born Shi'ite cleric at least three times since he arrived in Australia with his wife and children in 1994....
Peter Hanks QC argued that the court should quash ASIO's 2004 assessment against Sheik Leghaei or declare it void because of this lack of procedural fairness.
One section of the notebook, which customs officers photocopied after discovering it in his luggage at Sydney airport in 1996, asks: "With whom should a holy war be fought?
"The enemies of Islam are to be categorised under three headings: 1, the infidels who do not accept the Koran as the Book of Heaven. 2, the oppressive and the unjust and whoever takes up arms against the Prophet. 3, heathens living in the Islamic countries who have broken the agreement to pay tribute to the Muslims."
'University notes'
Sheik Leghaei says in his affidavit that the notebook contains his handwritten notes from a textbook he read while a university student in Iran.
The notebook relates to the former Iraqi regime's invasion of Iran, he says. And ASIO's translation from Farsi and Arabic into English was "seriously flawed".
WHAT?? I am shocked....you mean his jihad book wasnt his 'dear diary' of inner struggle...ah yes but of course the entire book was "lost in translation"...so why is it that arabic seems to be the only language in the world that cannot seem to be translated into english without losing its 'meaning'....that has to be the most lame attempt at making an excuse that they have come up with yet.
USAgirl queries,
"...so why is it that arabic seems to be the only language in the world that cannot seem to be translated into english without losing its 'meaning'...."
Because Arabic hails from the Almighty while English is the whisper of Satan.
In all seriousness, ask yourself this question: What is it, other than oil, does the Arabic world believe it has to offer the rest of the world?
Islam. Islam is their main contribution to mankind along with their holy writ which just happened to be "dictated" in the holy language, Arabic.
Arab muslims are so convinced of this that they deem their pre-Muhammaden history worthy only of study as compared to post-Muhammaden enlightenment.
"The Qur'an is best read in the original Arabic..."
Well if not english....perhaps french then??(yes that was a bit of sarcasm)
It is a positive sign that the excuses are getting lamer and lamer though. First it was that we just did not understand islam..."read the koran" muslims implored us...we read it..now that we have read it the excuses have gone from "we took the passages the wrong way" to "we just didnt understand what was being said" to "there are many translations to that passage" to " the koran is only understood if read in arabic"...the truth is we do not need to read it in arabic...the imams and jihadists have read it in arabic and perfectly understand the meaning, and through their actions we also perfectly understand what the meanings are
Sheik Leghaei says in his affidavit that the notebook contains his handwritten notes from a textbook he read while a university student in Iran.
FUNNY AINT IT HOW THE TRAIL KEEPS GOING BACK TO IRAN??
WHO HOUSES OVER 500 OF ubls[yellow coward who runs away]MONSTERS??
Earlier this week, NPR's "All Things Considered" reported on the findings of German television's ZDF TV after they had secretly placed a camera inside a German Islamic mosque. The Imam is heard saying (in translation): "Those Germans, those atheists, they don't shave their armpits. Their sweat spreads evil smells. They stink. They are atheists. What good do they do to us? And since they are unbelievers, in the afterlife, they can only burn in hell." Obviously, this did not go down well when the German public saw and heard such things.
WHAT OH!MY!
Later in the NPR report they quote from other communications by German Islamics now being revealed to the German public. A teacher at the Riksdorfer Elementary School -- a German government school that under German court ruling three years ago must teach its mostly Muslim students Muslim curriculum -- read an anonymous letter he received: "Germany is an Islamic country. Islam is in the home, in schools. Germans will be outnumbered. We [Muslims] will say what we want. We'll live how we want. It's outrageous that Germans demand we speak their language. Our children will have our language, our laws, our culture."
DO YOU THINK THEY ARE DOING THE SAME IN THE LAND OF THE AUSSIS??
GUESS HE DIN'T READ THIS PART OF HIS ON BOOK??
Qur’an 74:31 “We have appointed nineteen angels to be the wardens of the Hell Fire. We made a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve and We have fixed their number as a trial for unbelievers in order that the people of the Book may arrive with certainty, and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Book, those in whose hearts is a disease. And for those to whom the Scripture Book has been given, and the believers, there should be no doubt. The unbelievers may say, ‘What does the Lord intend by this?’ The Lord will lead astray whomever He pleases, and He will guide whomever He pleases: and none can know the armies of your Lord except He, and this is no other than a warning to mankind.”
This can be broken by Yes it is the Army of the people of the Book who he has chosen to Free [USA] the Iraqi people as it says
He will guide whomever He pleases: and none can know the armies of your Lord except He, and this is no other than a warning to mankind.”
Yes he has chosen the USA!!
TO FREE THE IRAQI PEOPLE FROM THE MONSTER saddam [FOUND IN A HOLE DON’T SHOOT I’M A YELLOW COWARD]
And let’s look at another part?

GOD BLESS THE USA AND HER FIGHTING FORCES AND ALL WHO FIGHT WITH HER GIVE THEM STRENGTH.WISDOM,SIGHT AND COURAGE TO STAY THE COURSE TO VICTORY TO DESTORY ALL ISLAMIC TERRORIST AND ALL WHO SUPPORT THEM OPEN THE WRLDS EYES TO THEIR THREAT GIVE THEM COURAGE TO STAND AND FIGHT THEM AMEN
Let's note one more time the logic of rhetoric concerning 'oppression and the unjust' from this Islamic perspective. Here it is again:
"The enemies of Islam are to be categorised under three headings: 1, the infidels who do not accept the Koran as the Book of Heaven. 2, the oppressive and the unjust and whoever takes up arms against the Prophet. 3, heathens living in the Islamic countries who have broken the agreement to pay tribute to the Muslims."
Note that one becomes an 'enemy' of Islam merely by rejecting the Qu'ran as 'the Book of Heaven' (which is entirely consistent with the text and ethos of the Qu'ran itself). This is sufficient for 'injustice'. Any Islamic resistance, violent or otherwise, against Infidels who reject the Qu'ran must be presumed to be 'just'; discourse about oppression or injustice in this domain (the domain of dealing with Infidels) is misplaced, because oppression and injustice must be interpreted in the context of the Qu'ran and what measures are necessary to advance and defend the faith. Infidels, by definition, are threats to justice, i.e. the dominance of the Qu'ran.
Is the murder of Theo Van Gogh 'unjust'? Are the murders of hostages in Iraq 'unjust'? Are suicide bombing or any attack against Israeli civilians 'unjust'? Is 9/11 unjust? Is the murder of Bahais, Christians, Hindus, Russians, or any Infidel who rejects the Qu'ran 'unjust'? These are Infidel concerns. From the Islamic perspective the presumption is against Infidels, hence, questions of 'justice and injustice', first and foremost, must concern the acceptance and dominance of the tenents of the Qu'ran itself, because the Qu'ran itself is justice. These kinds of questions, therefore, must be raised only after consideration of what meaning of these dead Infidels to advancing and defending Islam. Dead Infidels are, at best, an afterthought in any moral inquiry.
And once again, take note, rejection of the Qu'ran is enough. That is sufficient for being an 'enemy' against whom violence, brutality, or whatever measures are necessary for subjugation, are presumed to be acceptable.
Rejection of the Qu'ran and the Prophet: that is all it takes to enter the crosshairs of Islam.
JTF says,
"...that is all it takes to enter the crosshairs of Islam."
I just bought a scope for my mini 14. I have several twenty round clips which are already loaded. I got a great deal on some Winchester ammo too at the recent gun show.
I will be looking back.
good post, jtf. indeed, not only is islam totalitarian a priori, but it seems that it is a strange brew of nihilism, epicurianism, and belief in a wonderful afterlife. something seems strangely unbalanced
I get this all the time. Muslim spokesmen say: "You are quoting a translation. You can't understand what is being said except in the original Arabic."
Ironic that Qur’an Arabic is the only language in the world that cant be translated or explained or put in context so infidels can understand what they read.
If only 20% of all Moslems are of Arabs,
how does the other 80% understand the non-arabic translations ?
Arab people who would understand the true Arabic translation are the 19 guys of 9/11, Palestinians, Iraqi insurgents, Ansar al-Islam, Al-Qaeda, Asbat al Ansar, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc..
This mistranslations of subtlety excuse may soon go the way of the dodo.
Seems Germany and Holland are considering measures to ensure that all mosques preach sermons only in the local language - German and Dutch resp.
In France, the guy tipped to be presidential frontrunner next election and former minister in Chirac's cabinet, forget his name, openly proclaims that mosques should be funded not with saudi money but with state finances if necessary so that dependence of foriegn funsing can stop. Sounds corny, I know and there're dhimmi elements to it but stopping the dependence on foriegn funding is the first step to stopping the dependence on foreign influence.
Canada and Britain are yet to wake up but I predict a domino effect. Once one EU member adopts these rules, the pressure on others to emulate would rise. Besides, precedence would already be established and it shouldn't be as difficult the second time round.
Like Hugh's article says the other day, I think that the mask is falling off islam's true nature and despite best efforts of bribed media spinmasters, too many people arebeginning to understand the real nature of islam.
Leghaei is obviously using that other grub's excuse - that Hilaly we're unfortunately also stuck with here in Oz. Hilaly used that "mistranslated" excuse when caught saying hateful things while in the Middle East. 'Oh, you dumb infidels just don't comprehend. The Arabic I use is so very poetic, very hard to translate, easy to misunderstand.' But isn't there something in the Koran that says it is actually very easy to understand? Or is that "out of context"? Or just so very "poetic" that it really doesn't mean what it so obviously sounds like?
This Leghaei rubbish is fighting his deportation. Our security organization has been trying to have him tossed out for years because they have assessed him as a security risk. Unfortunately we've got do-gooders and bleeding hearts here too, fighting to keep this ilk here. Appeal after appeal after appeal. Frankly I'm not all that confident we'll get to throw him out.
