Boston gives break to terror-related mosque?

Professor Hale wrote this letter barely 2 months after September 11th. He apparently was beginning to allready recognize the potential deceptions of Islamofascism in his boston community when he saw that the Episcopal Heirchy was demonstating a hostility and ignorance towards Israel. Where they being influenced by the Bostons Islamic community? One gets the feeling that the Episcopal Bishops are deeply lacking in the understanding of their own historic foundations.

-----As a member of an Episcopal congregation in the Boston area, I write to express my dismay at the conduct of my Bishops outside the Israeli Consulate last month.

The Bishops are undoubtedly kind souls who feel they are drawing attention to a grave injustice. But by holding photos showing the "destruction in Bethlehem," and not the bodies of Israelis killed by suicide bombers, they imply that peace in the Middle East is Israel's responsibility - that Israel is "destroying" Bethlehem for some sinister purpose of its own, instead of defending itself against killers.

This is IGNORANCE DISGUISED AS BENEVOLENCE, and it should remind us that there is no deadlier combination in this dangerous world than warm hearts and empty heads.

Israel has already accepted, in principle, the idea of a Palestinian state, and the Israeli government was engaged in the very peace talks the Bishops are demanding when Palestinian radicals ignited the intifidah last September.

Since then scores of Jewish civilians have been murdered in Israel, the latest (as I write) a cabinet minister. This sorry record - which the Bishops have a responsibility to know - reinforces what has been clear for the past 50 years. There will be peace in the Middle East only when the Palestinians give up their mad dream of destroying Israel. The Bishops are aiming their righteous indignation at the wrong target - in the process saddening America's friends and stiffening the resolve of the true enemies of peace.

Could it be because Boston is a bastion of liberal elitism, they ignore the facts about this mosque and its financiers? BIRCHWOOD, Wis. – A deer hunter killed five people and wounded three more in a dispute over a hunting platform on private property during the opening weekend of deer season, authorities said.

A 36-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon when he came out of the woods, sheriff's officials said. Deputy Jake Hodgkinson identified the suspect as Chai Vang but would give no details. Vang is from St. Paul, Minn., said Paul Schnell, a spokesman for the St. Paul police department.
The shooting started when two hunters returning to their rural cabin on private land saw the suspect in one of their hunting platforms in a tree, Sawyer County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said. Hunters often build platforms in trees to be able to view prey and shoot from a high angle.
Both of those hunters were wounded, and one of them radioed friends at the cabin a quarter-mile away. Other members of their group responded, and they also were shot, he said.
"It's absolutely nuts. Why? Over sitting in a tree stand?" asked Zeigle.
Zeigle said the suspect was "chasing after them and killing them," with a SKS 7.62-mm semiautomatic rifle, a common hunting weapon. Wisconsin's statewide deer gun hunting season started Saturday and lasts for nine days.
About 20 shots were fired, but it was unclear if any of the hunters had fired at the suspect or who might have shot first, Zeigle said. There was just one gun among the eight people killed or wounded, he said.
The dead included a a teen-age boy and a woman, and a father and son, Zeigle said. Some of the victims were shot more than once. All five were from the Rice Lake area, about 15 miles southwest of Birchwood in the northwestern part of the state, he said.
Authorities found two bodies near each other, and the others were scattered over 100 yards.
The suspect, who did not have a compass, got lost in the woods, and two other hunters who didn't know about the shootings helped him find his way out, Zeigle said.
The man was arrested when he emerged from the woods and a Department of Natural Resources officer recognized the deer license on his back from a description given by one of the shooting victims, Zeigle said.
The man was out of ammunition, he said.
One of the injured hunters was in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital. Another was listed in serious condition, and the third was in fair condition, both at Lakeview Medical Center.
Hunter Bill Wagner, 72, of Oshkosh, was about two miles away near Deer Lake with a party of about 20 other hunters when they heard sirens, planes and helicopters and discovered roads in the area had been barricaded.
"When you're hunting you don't expect somebody to try to shoot you and murder you," Wagner said. "You have no idea who is coming up to you."
"We're all old, dyed-in-wool hunters," he said. "We wouldn't go home because of this, but we will keep it in our minds. We're not forgetting it."

I started a reply to you last night and I was interrupted, so I ended up just scratching it. I live near a large military base and I am very anxious to do something, ANYTHING, to educate the public about Islam. I have spent countless hours contemplating the best way to go about this very crucial task, and I've even considered mass mailings. I recently had the idea of standing beside the Salvation Army bell-ringer at Walmart and passing out leaflets until they threw me out!
I vehemently agree that we must do more than commiserate and lament the evils of Islam among ourselves. We already know what we're up against; it's the ignorant masses that must be enlightened. I refer this website to everyone I know but I'm not sure this is the ideal place to send people who know absolutely nothing about Islam. I fear they might be overwhelmed and out of their element.
I recommend and even buy books and give them to friends and family; all of Mr. Spencer's and others. I've been informed that they're very difficult to read (?). Let's face it, Islam is not easy to explain in fifty words or less and most people simply cannot comprehend any imminent threat or danger from Islam and muslims.
I'm open to any and all suggestions, and I'm willing to participate in any organized effort. I'll warn you though, I'm not much of an organizer!

I just finished reading "Islam unveiled" and not too long ago,"Onward muslim soldiers".
I must admit i was captivated by both books,but for a non-trained reader,the content is pretty compact and hard to assimilate.
These kind of books,in my opinion,should be written in a more general-public-oriented manner,in other words,easier to grasp.
Both books are great,i refused to allow any of my friends to have mine,i sent them to the book store to buy them,instead...it`s the least that we can do to support our common cause.
I still think that someone should write a reader-friendly book about the muslim danger to our western society...keep it simple,short and to the point.

Last I checked, some of bin ladin's family members still lived in Massachussetts. That would explain a lot.

Susanp: Hugh has suggested that he is interested in compiling a card with web-site addresses; justamomof 4 has offered to cook up some home-made publications; and susanb is coordinating forwarding addresses; which I take to mean that if we continue the slow process of organizing and staying focussed we will in time acheive something simple but elegant. I hate the thought of harping on this theme to the point that Spencer's readers sigh and scroll down every time they see one of my posts, but then I have to try and let the reader decide for himself what's valuable. I don't do this to practice my typing skills, actually. I think it's important that we pick up the challenge of our lives and act in our best character. I have over and again said that I encourage us to hand out fact-sheets on Islam. I've also warned that our friends might easily be murdered by Moslems passing by. Someone recently, in the past few days, mentioned that soldiers are returning form Moslem lands. I wrote yesterday on that topic. I suggest coordinating you efforts with others here to solisit friends at military bases. Thsoe are people who will be receptive to the message, and they won't hurt you.

if i remember correctly, the mosque in the above article is in roxbury -- indeed, a very large and dangerous neighborhood in boston. while in graduate school in the early 90's, i lived in the south end, a couple of blocks from roxbury and recall hearing what seemed quite predictably something on the order of 3 or 4 gunshots/night. indeed, there are projects in roxbury that have "mandela" in big letters on the side of one of the buildings. this is related to an uprising (i think in the early 80s if i'm not mistaken) when several blocks seceded from the city and declared themselves a new country named mandela. apparently, they finally rejoined the usa after their water and electricity was cut off for a week. in the late 90s, a new police headquarters (gigantic) was completed with the hopes of making the out-of-control crime rate in roxbury plummet -- apparently with some success as my friends will now drive through roxbury after sundown in order to take advantage of shortcuts from southy to the fens, kenmore square, and allston (or "allston purina" as we fondly refer to it)

the whole reason i bring all of this up is to speculate that the city overlords may have initially gotten involved in giving financial breaks to this mosque project in hopes that it would be of positive impact on a very backward neighborhood. just goes to show the importance of due diligence in a deal

Well, Boston is a bastion of Unitarianism. I can't see why 18th century Unitarianism can't cozy up with the 7th century variety.

Catherine, I doubt seriously that Chai Vang is a Muslim. Also the presence of a small Muslim minority in Viet Nam (the Cham; plus a few South Asians and other diaspora peoples) or even one in northern Laos (Ho, or Haw, who are Yunnan Chinese, and only partly Muslim) is completely irrelevant to the religion of Hmong people.

Hmong are indeed usually animist or Christian (even in northern Thailand, SW China, or Laos--their ancestral regions).

As for Islam in former French Indochina, the Viets conquered a kingdom called Champa, which combined Islam and Hinduism (a little like traditional Java) around the 16th century. There are scattered Cham minorities along coastal Viet Nam, up and down the lower Mekong in VN and Cambodia, and even a few thousand on the south coast of Hainan Island, China. In Cambodia, they had a tradition of getting along with the large Buddhist majority; and were a special target of Khmer Rouge fury after 1975 (along with ethnic Chinese, Buddhist monks, Christians, and people who could read).

The Hmong (who have their own set of languages belonging to the Hmong-Mien family) rubbed shoulders with Chinese-speaking Haw Muslims from Yunnan; but I have never heard of much Islamic headway among the Hmong. My guess is that if any Hmong became Muslim, they probably quietly absorbed into the Chinese Muslim community.

If there was some mental problem with Chai Vang, it may be, if he is old enough, that he had hallucinations in which he saw the other deer hunters as North Vietnamese soldiers. The Hmong fought an especially savage war agains the Borth Vietnamese down to 1975, and there's evidence that Hmong guerrilla activity against the current Communist regime in Laos (imposed in large part by Hanoi) is starting up again, even without US support.

In selling land for far below the market price, Menino -- possibly the dumbest big-city mayor in America, and he wears his stupidity on his sleeve -- also violated the First Amendment. He did favors for a "religion" (for the nonce, and for the sake not of argument but for our own side's argument, let us pretend that is what it is). The payment in kind -- lectures "on Islam" and "5,000 books on Islam" -- both so kindly offered to the unsuspecting mayor by the sinister and carefully-plotting people behind the mosque idea, an offer he was delighted to accept -- was ludicrous. Everything about this is an outrage, and the mosque -- and all mosques, which are as much hotbeds of Muslim aggression as those mosques in Europe found in police raids to contain thousands of false passports and plans of water-supply systems and subway systems, or those in Fallujah full of rocket-propelled-grenades, explosives, and all sorts of I.E.D.'s that have helped to kill American citizens. Mosques are places to inflame Muslims at khutbas, and to encourage Da'wa. They are, therefore, not healthy for Infidels who wish to remain Infidels -- or, as the old college poster puts it, other living things.

Unbelievable the infidels assist the sworn enemy in building an islamic military outpost. When are the American sheeple going to wake up to the fact that the goal is to murder all the infidels? These islamic military outpost should be closed at once.
