Dutch media identified the 34-year-old translator suspected of links to Van Gogh's killers as Outmar Ben A. or Othman Ben A. But National Prosecutor's office spokesman Wim de Bruin said he could not confirm the name.
In a letter to parliament last week, Interior Minister Johan Remkes said one of the suspects in the leak case who allegedly received secret information stayed at the same address as Mohammed Bouyeri, Van Gogh's alleged killer.
Remkes said Friday that it was not clear whether Bouyeri himself may have obtained secret information.
Shouldn't the Dutch secret service be recruiting translators from an Arab-Christian background? There are quite a lot of those in Europe.
Something tells me the Dutch authorities don't quite 'get it' yet. I almost admire people who can ignore the screamingly obvious in such an adept manner, it must take real dedication and self-discipline.
Don't single out the Dutch on this. There have been a few horror stories involving translators here in the US.
You're right, every Western government is guilty of the same kind of myopia, I only pointed out the Dutch because they've suffered the most recent jihadi attack. But still I've not seen anything to convince me that governments are serious about this issue. Maybe a lie becomes harder to admit to as time goes on.
Robert Crawford is absolutely correct. Here in the U.S., we should be using Israeli translators. We need to leave the "PC" element out of our own screening process. Because we have failed to do so, we have set up a dangerous "fifth column" in our midst.

Why does it appear that being "politically correct" goes hand in hand with a seriously eroded sense of self preservation? Hey, just call me paranoid but after 911 I would have ALL the muslim translators, CIA and FBI agents under surveillance. AMSTERDAM — An attempt to strengthen the blasphemy law in the wake of the murder of filmmaker and columnist Theo van Gogh seemed to have backfired on the Dutch government.
A majority in the 150-seat Parliament have indicated they support a motion introduced by small government party D66 to scrap the blasphemy law that was introduced in the 1930s.
Only the Christian parties — Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende's Christian Democrats and the much smaller ChristenUnie and SGP — want to keep the ban. Together the Christian parties have only 49 seats.
Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner, a member of Balkenende's CDA, made the case at the weekend for tightening the
law against blasphemy. The move comes two weeks after Van Gogh was murdered.
Van Gogh - who likened Muslims to "goat fuckers" and "pimps of the Prophet" - was shot and stabbed to death on an Amsterdam Street on 2 November.
A Muslim man who holds Moroccan and Dutch nationality has been arrested for the murder.
It has been suggested the murder was carried out in direct response to the film Submission, which Van Gogh made with Somali-born MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali. The 10-minute film features Muslim women in see-though veils telling about domestic abuse suffered at the hands of their husbands and other male relatives.
Denouncing Van Gogh's killing, Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and other ministers of his three-party coalition emphasised the importance of freedom of speech as a cornerstone of Dutch democracy.
Speaking to a CDA conference, Donner said his plan had nothing to do with the murder of Van Gogh, but he said he was worried by increasing attacks on Jewish and Muslim beliefs in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, newspaper De Volkskrant published a letter asking Donner to define what he means by "scornful blasphemy". The letter, signed by leading writers, comics and artists, asked the minister to explain his motives and reasoning for the move to strengthen the law.
"Must we now, apart from terrorists, also fear your civil servants," the artists asked Donner.
The writers called for a public debate on the issue and questioned whether Donner wanted to differentiate between the protection afforded to religious believers from the protection for non-believers. He was also asked whether a new ban on "scornful blasphemy" would also apply to other philosophies like free thinking and atheism.
"If that is not the case, we want to know why," the letter stated.
Immigration and Integration Minister Rita Verdonk, of the Liberal Party (VVD), has distanced herself from Donner's plans, as has VVD parliamentary party leader Jozias van Aartsen.
Commentators have noted that Donner is following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jan Donner, who was justice minister in the 1930s for the Anti-Revolutionary Party (now part of the CDA).
Shocked by a call by a Communist newspaper to ban Christmas, Jan Donner introduced the blasphemy law which is now on the statute books.

the Q&A page had a posting for the van Gogh killing,the violence to defend Islam was questioned and the Cleric answered by implying that people need to know the results of defaming Islam in the name of free speech.
He did say the murder was exsessive and Muslims need to use the Courts and Law-suits to stop the attacks on the Prophet Muhammed and the Quran.

I live in Miami where there are thousands of Israelis and Jews from Morocco and other arab countries where they were expelled from. This is where we should look for our translators, not among arabs (even educted ones) who deeply in their heart all rejoiced on 9/11.
I left France 6 months ago where life is no more bearable if you are lucky enough to have understood the arabs' agenda. They are everywhere and I believe it is already too late for things to change in France as well as in all other european countries.
