NEW YORK, Nov. 5 -- Prosecutors alleged Friday that a Syrian-born doctor had blueprints for a suburban Washington overpass in his Brooklyn apartment and tried to help a suspected al Qaeda associate enter the United States.But a federal magistrate denied the government's request to revoke the doctor's bail on an immigration charge after his attorney denounced the allegations as a smear based on old evidence and guilt by association.
The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force found the shredded blueprints for the Capital Beltway overpass at Connecticut Avenue in Hassan Faraj's apartment after he was arrested in June, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also accused Faraj of submitting an affidavit saying he would financially support prospective immigrant Amir Abdulrazzak, whom they called a suspected al Qaeda associate.
They asked at a hearing Friday that Magistrate Judge Kiyo Matsumoto revoke Faraj's $100,000 bail.
Matsumoto did not jail Faraj, 39, but placed him under house arrest until a full hearing next week. Faraj's attorney, Stanley Cohen, said he plans to disprove each of the government's allegations.
Cohen said the blueprints, for example, belonged to Faraj's brother, a professor of civil engineering who had been teaching at a Washington area university. Faraj threw out the papers after the brother moved overseas, he said. Cohen declined to identify where the brother taught.
As for the alleged al Qaeda connection, "that accusation has no more significance than the rest of the government claims, which are based upon old, unproved and unconnected snippets of information," Cohen said.
There was a similar story which appeared in several local news papers shortly after the September 11 attacks. You may be familiar with the story.
The story involved a moving van that was stopped by Harbour Tunnel police after having reported "suspicious activity" of 4 or 5 "middle-eastern looking men". The same van was reportedly seen living the vicinity of the attacks because of the peculiar and suspicious behavior of the men. When questioned by the police, one of the men stated, "your enemies [America] are our enemies [the arabs]". This was not concocted by any "cuckoo-clock" saudi cleric, but was reported in the U.S. media by several sources.
All men were later proven to be israeli citizens, and at least one with an arabic name (there are many israeli arabs and arabic jews, as there are many non-arab muslims). Some were reportedly members of MOSSAD. A case was actually brought to court by the Israeli government for wrongful imprisonment of the men who were held for a period of detention, and then whisked away back to Israel.
I have seen no outcry, no outrage at all from the American public about this incident, but it seems every arab-looking person, even doctors and educated people, are ready targets for implications of terrorist activity.

The fact that the israelis protested their detention, which was factual, or the fact that they were under suspicion? George Walker Bush has stated that Osama Bin Laden is "insignificant" in the war against terror. Eight hours after terrorists struck Manhattan's tallest skyscrapers, police in Bergen County detained five men who they said were found carrying maps linking them to the blasts. The five men, who were in a van stopped on Route 3 in East Rutherford around 4:30 p.m., were being questioned by police but had not been charged with any crime late Tuesday.
However, sources close to the investigation said they found other evidence linking the men to the bombing plot. "There are maps of the city in the car with certain places highlighted," the source said. "It looked like they're hooked in with this. It looked like they knew what was going to happen when they were at Liberty State Park."
Sources also said that bomb-sniffing dogs reacted as if they had detected explosives. The FBI seized the van for further testing, authorities said. Sources said the van was stopped as it headed east on Route 3, between the Hackensack River bridge and the Sheraton hotel. As a precaution, police shut down Route 3 traffic in both directions after the stop and evacuated a small roadside motel near the Sheraton.
Sources close to the investigation said the men said they were Israeli tourists, but police had not been able to confirm their identities. Authorities would not release their names. East Rutherford officers stopped the van after the FBI's Newark Office broadcast an alert asking surrounding police departments to look for a white Chevrolet van, police said.
"We got an alert to be on the lookout for a white Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration and writing on the side," said Bergen County Police Chief John Schmidig. "Three individuals were seen celebrating in Liberty State Park after the impact. They said three people were jumping up and down."
East Rutherford officers summoned the county bomb squad, New Jersey state troopers, and FBI agents, who waited alongside the van as prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office tried to obtain a warrant to search the van late Tuesday, Schmidig said. The FBI alert, known as a BOLO or "Be On Lookout," was sent out at 3:31 p.m. It read:
"Vehicle possibly related to New York terrorist attack. White, 2000 Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration with 'Urban Moving Systems' sign on back seen at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ, at the time of first impact of jetliner into World Trade Center. "Three individuals with van were seen celebrating after initial impact and subsequent explosion. FBI Newark Field Office requests that, if the van is located, hold for prints and detain individuals."
State police Col. Barry W. Roberson confirmed the traffic stop at a late night news briefing at state police headquarters in Trenton. He would not elaborate, however. A business traveler staying at the Homestead Studio Hotel said she watched state troopers drive the suspects away in a procession of state police cars about 5 p.m. "First, they told us we could hang out in the lobby, but then they told us to leave," the traveler said.
At 10 p.m., the hotel guest said she could see at least two police officers searching through the van while a crowd of other officers kept their distance.

In America, since the September 11 attacks, people who looked arab or middle eastern have been shot and killed, their businesses and stores vandalised, their mosques painted with pig's blood and with racist slurs. Just last week, a man of portugese descent was attacked by 4 white assailants in the parking lot of hie apartment complex and told "go back to Iraq". 2) He teaches at a university -- let's say Georgetown -- and this might be further embarrassment to that already considerably embarrassed institution. For at this point, what with all the Arab money that has kept the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding afloat, and paid for the allowances that keep Esposito, Voll, and Haddad churning out their stuff, and what with the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Arab-suppored fiefdom of smooth Michael Hudson (whom NPR interviewers insist on taking seriously (would they solemnly interview some doctor who was in the pay of a drug company to be consulted as an expert on that drug company's latest scandal, and accept without question his attempts to diminish its significance, or to deflect the question? You have asked an excellent question. And you have your answer. This is a trend that is being studied by islamist sociologist (there are many). Quite frankly, Islam is being insulted daily, and attacked daily, this web log is no exception.
And it is easy enough to trace IP address if any seriously wants to hunt someone down to act on such insults. But by and large most muslims do nothing.. they do not respond to the insults. Because most muslims do not respond, this gives the psychological impression that they are unable to respond, or that the expectation is they would automatically respond with threats of violence (as was the case with Salman Rushdie, muslim heretic.. yes, he was a muslim).
Now my personal belief is that these insults should be ignored, because God ignores our flaws and mistakes, and we all make many. However, the opposing side of that argument is that not responding actually encourages more attacks and establishes a position of social weakness, created by many societal factors.
I can say honestly that is most people really feared for their safety if they made insulting remarks about Islam and the prohet of Islam, Muhammad, they would not make the kind of insulting statements I've read here.
So I believe you have proven that there is no real threat, based on the actions seen just in this web log, and that most (the majority) muslims will do nothing when faced with these insults.

I ask these survey questions to support research I am doing in this forum and others about neo-fascism as its related socio-psychosis.

I call these groups for the purpose of this survey, "inducers", inductive reasoners, and "deducers" deductive reasoners.
The hypothesis is that deductive reasoners will be receptive and open to new information, facts, and ideas as they emerge. Inductive reasoners have already pasted the analysis stage and formulated social theory, so they are not open to new information as it may emerge.
In the ranking of deductive reasoners, the "deducers" at the type of the hierarchy should be the most open-minded reasoners, able to adjust perceptions based on new facts, and at the bottom, those more affected by extraneous information, such as cohort biases.
