David Frum recounts a chilling tale of CAIR's characteristic activities in the National Post (via AEI, with thanks to DC Watson):
Two weeks ago, the National Post and I were served with a notice of libel by the Canadian branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR. The Post and I are not alone. Over the past year, CAIR's Canadian and U.S. branches have served similar libel notices on half a dozen other individuals and organizations in the United States and Canada. Each case has its own particular facts, yet they are linked by a common theme: That we defendants have accused CAIR (in the words of the notice served on me) of being "an unscrupulous, Islamist, extremist sympathetic group in Canada supporting terrorism."Lawyers for individuals and newspapers served with libel notices will normally urge their clients to avoid any comment on the matter--to avoid even any acknowledgement that they have been served. This is usually good advice. A notice of libel is not a lawsuit, but a warning of a lawsuit to come. If the potential defendant keeps quiet, the potential plaintiff will often drop the suit altogether.
But wise legal advice often comes at a cost, a cost in public information. So I was heartened that the National Post's lawyers have encouraged the paper and me to continue with this important story.
CAIR is understandably protective of its reputation. Until recently, it has had considerable success winning acceptance in the United States and Canada as something close to an official spokesman for local Muslim communities. CAIR has been influential in advocating for a sharia court to arbitrate divorces and other family-law matters in the province of Ontario. CAIR's strong criticisms of Canada's anti-terror legislation have won respectful hearing in Ottawa. Any reporting or commentary that cast doubt on CAIR's carefully cultivated image would deeply threaten the group's mission.
What is that mission? The public record offers some clues:
CAIR was founded in 1994 by alumni of an older group, the Islamic Association for Palestine. The IAP, founded by senior Hamas figure Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, calls for the destruction of Israel and the creation of an Islamic state under Islamic law in Israel's place. (In 1996, CAIR would condemn the U.S. government's decision to deport Marzook as an "anti-Islamic" act.)
CAIR's first executive director, Nihad Awad, publicly declared himself a supporter of Hamas at a 1994 forum at Barry University in Florida.
One of CAIR's original advisory board members, Siraj Wahhaj, served as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman. Rahman is the blind Egyptian cleric convicted in 1995 of conspiracy to bomb New York landmarks. CAIR described Rahman's conviction as a hate crime.
CAIR's founding chairman, Omar Ahmed, also an IAP alumnus, is said to have declared at a public event in California in July, 1998: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth." Ahmed has since disputed the accuracy of the quote--five years after it was reported by a California newspaper.
After the 9/11 attacks on the United States, CAIR's Web site featured a link titled, "Donate to the NY/DC Disaster Relief Fund." The link connected to the Web site of the Holy Land Foundation, a charity closed down by the United States three months later as a Hamas front.
Read it all.
Off the point (sorry!) - good piece from Julie Burchill about Israel:

I saw Ibrahim Hooper in an interview on Fox and I wasn't impressed.
There is something disturbing about an angry, inarticulate, red-headed Islamic convert/fanatic who wears a tightly woven, solid white kufi.
It is a nice style, but was placed on the wrong head.
Does anyone out there know anything about the rumour that Fox News pulled it's eagerly awaited "Eurabia" series because of CAIR pressure ? Friends in the States called me about the series and promised me they'd call after the first part was broadcast but they said the programme wasn't aired at all despite lots of advertising on Fox. What happened ?
LOVE LIFE - HATE ISLAM !!!
** ANTI-CAIR ISSUE 39/04 ** MUST READ **
Here's Andrew Whitehead's latest screed on CAIR (it came out last night). Check it out:
"CAIR: Calling for Probe of “War Crimes” in Iraq"
http://www.anti-cair-net.org/press_039_04
BTW, there's a mailing list you can subscribe to.
Son of Albion,
I do not believe Fox pulled "Eurabia". I did not see the first part, but I did read this from a FNC update:
---------------------------
FOX Report w/ Smith
Wed. 7pm
Muslim immigration is out of control and causing a bitter cultural clash. Why are some turning a blind eye? Steve Harrigan exposes the truth in part two of his "Eurabia" series.
---------------------------
It appears the show must go on.
BTW, Andrew Whitehead's legal battle with CAIR is still unresolved...
Thanks Moe.
Thanks for the info Moe . Did anyone see the first part of Eurabia ? I don't understand how my buddies missed it ?
looks like nasseem has shot her self in the foot
I think it would be foolish to see CAIR as anything other than a Wahabbi front organization.
CAIR Canada has a history of playing the Victim to gain sympathy for their Crusade to get Islam in the Public school.
Below is the link to their "online report" for
"Hate-Crimes" , they create false statistics by including anecdotal cases based on Paranoia.
Just after the 9/11 attack, the newspapers ran a story about Imam's claiming female Muslims were being looked at "As if they were terrorists" and feared for their lives,CAIR used this to prove Islamophobia exists in the West.
CAIR failed to report the Muslim journalist that was receiving death threats from "True" Muslims that saw them as the enemy of Islam for the Western passive version of Islam they were practising.
BTW,Shema Khan who is part of CAIR's staff, now sits on the board for the "Lawyers civil rights" association,I say this because she is a adamant proponent for Sharia-Law in Canada and I've seen her argue that the Hijab she wears is in the Quran as a religious dress and those that don't wear it aren't practising the "True" Islam.
Here's the link if you need a good laugh
on Islamic paranoia.

CAIR obviously doesn't like the truth being revealed about Islam so they are using the West's legal system to shut people up. Problem with Islam is there's not too much positive about it, so it's difficult to be truthful and honest about Islam and not bring up its hatred, intolerance and outright evil. This, of course, puts Muslims in a bad light, because they're following a hateful, intolerant and evil belief system. But should we just ignore this and shut up? Seems Muslims sure want us to. Stick our heads in the sand. I suppose we shouldn't write about the evils of Nazism either. Might put neo-Nazis in a bad light.
feralee, Why would the West's legal system prohibit a truthful expose about muslims in Europe? If the West's legal system allowed Michael Moore to put Fareinheit 911 in theatres all over the world, why would it prohibit a documentary by Fox News? Political correctness might be the current mindset in many circles, but it has not been enacted into law.
I can certainly understand why C.A.I.R. would not want Eurabia shown in the United States. It would be the first nationally televised program exposing the horrors of muslims in Europe, and would alert sleeping Americans to their potential future. But nonetheless, how could C.A.I.R. legally stop this program from being aired?
If they did intimidate Fox News into cancelling it, America is already in deep s#$t. I know Saudi money finances C.A.I.R.'s seditious exploits, so I suppose it's safe to assume that the Saudis are in control of our news media and are dictating what Americans will watch on television.
I had been eagerly anticipating this series, which I thought would be four, thirty minute segments. I was elated at the prospect of national exposure depicting the stark reality of hordes of muslims in Western countries, and the rampant crime, hate, and urban decay that they create. Finally, millions of Americans would see what America could easily become if we allow it. I had a strange, nagging premonition that it was too good to be true, and sure enough, I was right. This is an extremely disconcerting experience and it troubles me more than words can express. For the first time in my life, I fear for my freedom.
The followers of Islam claim --and over the centuries have repeatedly claimed-- that Islam is a 'religion'.
But is it? Or, do Muslims degrade the term 'religion' by applying it to Islam?
Or, is Islam ideology?
Or, is Islam really an ancient human sacrifice cult camouflaged by a facade of false Judeo-Christian theology?
Is Islam truth?
Or, memorex?
Is al-lah, Islam's deity, the Judeo-Christian faith's deity? (We say 'no' on that one).
Is al-lah another 'deity'?
Is al-lah an idol and/or an object of human sacrifices camouflaged as 'jihad'?
Or is al-lah actually Beelzebub by another name (aka satan)?
Blood will tell.
susanp, through intimidation more than law. Sure, PC isn't law but it seems many of our judges sure are. Besides, what better way to scare people from speaking the truth in future but by suing? Frum has big bucks on his side, to help with his legal defense if it gets that far, but what about the little guy who can't afford that? We had a Christian pastor here in Oz have to defend himself in court from Muslims who said he "villified" them. It was all a setup, highly exaggerated but they went ahead nevertheless - taxpayer funded so they have nothing to lose. But over $100k in court costs for the pastor, and it's been months since the judge said he would make a decision.
CAIR Canada and other Org.'s run by Muslims also know the power of the state owned CBC and the State run CRTC that censors the media.
Muslims are well organized for complaints against perceived Islamophobia in the media,in fact the canadian Islamic congress has a "Islamophobe of the year" award based om Muslims pouring over any news articles with anti-Muslim references.
These groups have their own lawyers and know how to milk the system through forcing people to prove a negative in a Court of law,the threat of a Court case is "Financial-Terrorism" that makes people live in fear of bankruptcy and a life of poverty.
I never trusted CAIR as a benevolent group and never will if they continue to demand Sharia-Law in Canada and deny the hateful sermons in the Mosques on Friday's "Holy" day of prayer.
Yahidimrevenge and all posters:
Ghazi Khankan is the NY Chapter head of CAIR.
He is also the religious interfaith director for the Islamic Center of Long Island, 835 Brush Hollow Road, Westbury, NY. The Pres. of the mosque is Faroque Khan, (of Daniel Pipes fame), Yahiya Emerick teaches at the Crescent School, same address as the mosque and also of Daniel Pipes fame.
Khankan, Khan, et. al., have close connections with the Diocese of Rockville Center and in particular, the God Squad's Rev. Tom Hartmann. Telecare, Hartmann's cable television show, still plays the puff piece, "Our Muslim Neighbors". The cable series was made cooperatively with the Islamic Center, despite the fact that Hartmann and the Diocese have been informed of Khan's and Khankan's ties to the Islamic Society of North America and CAIR.
