From AP (with thanks to Mrs. Obelix).
Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev honored the singer once known as Cat Stevens with a peace prize on Wednesday, praising him for charity work and for standing by his convictions despite personal hardships.
Yusuf Islam was awarded the "Man for Peace" award in Rome at the opening of a meeting of Nobel Peace Prize laureates. He last made headlines in September, when he turned up on Washington's no-fly list for having suspected ties to terrorists — a claim he has strongly denied.
Cat Stevens's past has been airbrushed out of the story with a diligence worthy of Stalin.
Thanks to sites like JW/DW and the many websites and blogs inviting public cooperation in the anti-jihad effort - success by airbrushing &/or revisionism will be severly limited.
Peace awards given out to the likes of Cat or Arafat cheapen, mock and disgrace the concept of peace.
Comfort comes from knowing that there are countless anti-jihadi's assisting with irrefutable documentation contradicting the fantasy of the religion of peace. Average folk, like me, are waking up and responding.
Keep up the great work here at JW/DW!
I've been wanting to say this for a while now, listening to you people ranting, and pretending that you care about human rights. STOP YOU'RE WHINNING!!!
That's all you people ever do! You whine and complain, and then you whine and complain some more! "Christmas is going to be banned," "Muslims are taking over," wah, wah, wah, wah!
Unless you offer valid solutions to help, don't bother! Unless you're certain that this site was created for the sole purpose so that Spencer could listen to you whine!
Right now Islam is getting a bad rep from all those Islamic extremist terrorists out there. I must admit I will never be a fan of the Islamic faith. Although I will try for all I cannot to hate it.
I can only try not to hate it though I am not prefect and I when I saw the stories of Russian children being held by those terrorists and then learning about how the terrorist killed a lot of the children on TV I have to admit at one point in my mind I felt so enraged I hated them and knowing they were Muslim, for a split second in my head made a connection in that Muslim men were evil, terrorist, children killers. I don't know why I thought that, whether it was just my childish ignorance coming into my mind or whether in my simple mind I just wanted to make a connection to a whole group to make the issue of hating for me more simple.
I mean, if a truly logical person ponders it, any country thats invaded is going to strike back any way they can.
In the Russian school massacre, one of the Russian women asked, "Why are you doing this?? Don't you care that I have a family?"
The terrorist replied, "Didn't you care when your soldiers killed my wife and my son?"
I will never be a fan of the Jewish faith either, but I don't think that is intrinsically evil, and that all Jewish people are nasty and evil.
It is source of so much horror in the world today, and women are subjected to diabolical human rights abuses as per the Talmud. In Shabbat 152, women are described as "sacks of excrement" and "pitchers of filth."
And Judaism spawns terrorists, like Baruch Goldstein, who are, if not in number, at least equal in terms of degree and severity. I would include this category those terrorists who fight a proxy war in the interests of Judaism, as in Iraq. Christianity: "The birth of a daughter is a loss." That doesn't mean that every single Jew, Christian, Muslim is a terrorist, or implementing some sort of conspiricy to take over. Those of you are afraid of some "Muslim conspiricy," well, there are people who are afraid of a "Jewish conspiricy," do you not see how ridiculous you're comments are?
What you need to do is help. Here are some suggestions on how you can help people suffering in Islamic countries:
1)Support RAWA: Revolutionary Association of the women of Afghanistan: http://rawa.false.net/index.html
2) Write a petition to your congressman. Tell him to denounce what is going on in Muslim countries. International pressure helped stop the stoning of that young woman in Nigeria.
3) Stage a protest. There are enough of you here, aren't there? Then get together and stage a protest, and make the politicians listen.
This is just off the top of my head, so unless you're going to do something, rather than sit and complain, SHUT UP!!!!!
MUSLIM TROLL ALERT.
Hey, does that mean you have suggestions on how to help people in Muslim countries, are you going to spend you're time bashing me?
And no, I'm not a Muslim, I'm still atheist and white. But I do hate to hear people like you whine and complain all the time.
I have some other suggestions. For any European women on this site, if you live in areas heavily populated by immigrants and are afraid of verbal or physical attacks:
1) Take a self-defense course. A woman's self-defense course will do, or perhaps something more indepth, such as Kendo. I recommend learning Kendo because it's the most effective form of self-defense that I can think of.
2)Carry a switch blade or a knife
3)Try to stay in large crowds when in areas largely populated by Muslim immigrants
4)Get a rotweiller or a vicisious dog, that will send them running!
I hope that helps!!
aya
Do you want us to shut up like Theo? Should I shut up if you don't think I have the proper credentials. I do sign petitions and fund in my own way human rights organisations. But then again what bloody business is that of yours. Do I have to tell you my personal life so I can EARN my right to exercise free speech. I don't have to earn my right to free speach according to your own personal value system. Who are you, the Thought Police? Are you going to sit in judgement on who can speak and who can not. If you don't like me exercising my right to free speach then go to a country where, like you, it is not tolerated. Maybe North Korea or Saudi Arabia. Sorry, I am not going to shut up. You first.
To the poster labeled AYA:
Thank you for all of your suggestions to help us protect ourselves. I have a question for you and all of your apparent knowledge: In your post, you asked if we have suggestions on how to help people in Muslim countries. What is it that makes you and others feel that Americans are responsible to do this? What exactly is it that places this burden on the American people?
Here we are, giving financial aid to nearly every nation on the planet, even dump posts like Palestine, and they turn around and hate us anyway. Not that they ever receive any of the benefits of the money because it goes straight into the soon to be carcass of Arafat's swiss bank account.
Perhaps instead of you telling everyone on this site to stop whining, you should pull your head out of your tucked away ass and realize what's in front of you. Do you think that if you make nice with Islamofascists that you'll get to keep your freedom?
The world's full of dumbasses.....Don't add to the pile......molto estupito cagna
So again, do you have suggestions on how to help, or are you going to spend you're time bashing me?
No, obl r us, you can rant all you want, but unless you come up with solutions to help, what good is it? Unless, all you want to do is rant?
To DCWatson, you don't have to make nice with Islamofacists. All I'm suggesting is that you come up with solutions to help non-Muslims and women living in Muslim countries. You know as well as I do the atrocities being committed against them. Do you not want to help them? We're living in one of the richest countries in the world. When you sign on to this site, you know exactly what you're going to find, atrocities against people(women, non-Muslims) in Muslim countries, or, sometimes atrocities committed against people(women, non-Muslims) in Western countries. So, unless you want to help these people, why bother? Unless all you want to do is complain? All I'm suggesting is, that given all of you're frustrations, there must be something you can do to help people, instead of merely complaining about it.
AYA
"No, obl r us, you can rant all you want, but unless you come up with solutions to help, what good is it? Unless, all you want to do is rant? "
Tell that to Theo.
Instead of finding a discussion, or even a fruitful debate, all I find are the same things being said over and over. I don't care about you're personal lives, you give to humanitarian organizations? That's great! But there must be more that can be done, after all, if you spend so much time merely complaining about the problem, how is it going to go away. And, YES, while you may give to humanitarian organizations in you're private time, you spend all you're time here moaning and complaing, outraged and irate. So then, instead of complaining, there must be something that you people, as a collective can do. Unless, again, all you want to do is rant.
That's all I've got to say. YOu can bash me if you want. I don't care. I"m gone, and I won't bother you anymore. Just try to do something constructive while you're here.
Gorbachev was never the brains of the outfit determined to give up Soviet power (but not the "electrification of the whole country"). The man who mattered most was Alexander Yakovlev, who still does.
Misunderstanding of Islam, by Gorbachev, or by anyone, is no longer to be tolerated or condoned. One hopes that those who have in the past given money to whatever private foundation (the "Gorbachev Foundation" or something like that) he set up as the instrument for his own convenience, self-glorificiation, and most importantly, in order to finance his luxurious stops around the world. While in Rome to hand over the peace prize to the monstrous Cat Stevens, where did Gorbachev stay? Was it at the Hassler, by any chance, so close to where Gogol wrote "Dead Souls"? That Hassler can run into money. Who paid for it -- the "Foundation"? Who contributes to the "Foundation" and why? Too bad Alexander Yakovlev can't afford to travel much these days, nor any of the other unsung heros of the self-dissolving last Soviet regime -- why not share the wealth with them -- just a little?
As for Walter Veltroni, wasn't he Minister of Culture when the Olive-Tree was in bloom? He should travel around his own city, instead of handing out "peace prizes." You know -- disvoer Rome before the tourists do. And as Walter Veltroni admires this statue, that torso, that vase unearthed in Sicily where someone is doing something to someone else, or those paintings, each more beautiful than the next, he should ask himself a few questions. What civilization produced those scultptures and those paintings? And why do the words "sculpture" and "painting" and "skeptical inquiry" and "free thought" never mix with culturally-immiscible "Islam"? And would he care, a little, a lot, a great deal, if his own country were, in 20 or 40 or 60 years, thoroughly islamized, and what does he think the effect on "culture" -- this former Minister of Culture -- will be? And how does the unopposed spread of Islam connect to the awarding of a "Peace Prize" by Gorbachev to one Cat Stevens,ne Giorgiou, now Yusuf Islam.
Think, Walter, think.
There, you answered your own question. Women and non-Muslims needing help in Muslim lands should tell you that Muslims are a problem. Don't be gullible enough to think that we don't involve ourselves in areas other than this site. This is where we discuss issues.
We also have done extensive work with organizations and the Government in an effort to stop racist Muslims from committing atrocities on our soil. If you can't handle what we discuss on this site, I'm sure they'd welcome you with open branches at TreeHuggers.com
It seems that there is sadly still some residue of rivalry felt towards the USA by Russian leaders past and present. Putin was obstructive towards Bush trying to get a strong UN stance on Saddam, and now Gorbachev is honoring the non-artist formerly known as Cat Stevens a few months after the US had him removed from America.
Never forget that Yusuf Islam was all in favour of the death sentence proscribed on Salman Rushie for the peaceful expression of his views.
It will be another outrage if this one-time popstar receives the Nobel Prize, but I get a feeling that it could well happen.
This will show how once benevolent organizations have been subverted by malevolent people.
The best way to help any woman or child in a muslim country.....is to take away the "muslim" in front of the "country"...only then will any woman or child living under the black banner of death known as islam be truly free. Banning islam (because there is little hope of it reforming itself into a civilized organization) wordlwide is the path to freedom for women and children....shelling out money to "help" just buys more bombs and guns for the terrorists...or in the case of arafat pads private accounts so that your manly wife needs to keep your rotting carcas warm until she can either figure out where you have hidden the cash or choke the account numbers from the artificially breathing future cadavar.
aya
Why do you come here and act like your not a apostle of Islam.
If you had any brain cells left, you would be outraged at what Mohammadanism is doing to this world as we know it. It is a good thing to hate evil and love good. If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything. This is not a self-defense web site, but a web site where the truth about Mohammadanism is told. Your reaction to this tells me you are a Moslem or lacking lots of brain cells.
What the hell are the Russians trying to do?
How would they react if we gave medals to the Checnan rebels family members and called them peace medals?

to aya:
perhaps you should take a step back and instead of pointing out the motes in others' eyes, try dislodging the 2x4 in your own. i'd like to point out a few features of this forum to you:
1) like d.c. pointed out above, this is a forum for discussion and information exchange. perhaps you've heard the axiom "knowledge is power"
2) many people in this forum support the troops, have family in the military, and several are veterans. perhaps you've heard of the american military's activities over the past several years: defeat of taliban, progress vs. al qaeda, defeat of saddam hussein's regime. i'll bet if you turn on your television set, you can see those wonderful folks of ours taking the terrorist city-state of fallujah. go get 'em terrorists, baby!!
3) we have considerable evidence that other media has taken cues from jihadwatch and reported stories on jihad & dhimmitude
4) several bloggers here -- hugh fitzgerald & d.c. watson come to mind -- have had articles & columns printed in other media on these topics
5) other bloggers have set up other websites on these topics for the purpose of enhancing that which is described in #1 above
my suggestion to you is to either get with the program or go pedal your nagging attitude somewhere where people actually give a rip
two more points:
6) in addition, i do believe that the site gets 300,000 hits/day -- and there is good reason to believe this number is accelerating. until such time as actual users can be tracked, we cannot be sure just how many people this represents. but it isn't chicken feed
7) perhaps you've heard that the anti-jihadist president george bush has just been re-elected by 59 million americans. i'd bet dollars for doughnuts some of those folks blog in this forum
He should be given a steel-toed kick to the crotch by Henry Rollins.
I have always hated that kindergarten-pop "hit", where he croons, "Oooh, baby, baby, it's a wild world..." followed by the descending major scale. It is only in the past month or two I realized that was HIS abortion.
The "Peace Train" abortion... I don't think I know that one. I may have to find it. I may recognize it once I hear it.
Re: Cat Stevens' contribution to world peace and deservedness of awards, below is an extract from an article published in the London Times, Oct. 18/2004 by Sarah Baxter, a former editor of the New Statesman, in a column titled: A Democrat for Bush:
"I also had a formative experience in 1989. I was a cub reporter at the London magazine Time Out when I covered the campaign by Yusuf Islam — Cat Stevens — to gain state funding for his Islamia school in Brent, north London. I was ambitious to seek out foreign stories as a freelance and had heard that an obscure group called Hamas was becoming a force to be reckoned with in the occupied territories.
I was sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and wanted to know more about these upstart challengers to Israel and the PLO. But how could I possibly gain access to Hamas? I rang my contacts at the Islamia school and bingo! I was immediately put in touch with their leaders in Gaza, whom Cat Stevens was flying off to see that very month.
I took two weeks’ holiday from Time Out and set off for the occupied territories with a black chiffon scarf over my head. On arrival in Gaza I was disturbed that the Hamas leaders I met would never look me in the eye. To them, it was indecent even to glance at a member of the inferior sex. All their answers were directed at my boyfriend, who was taking pictures. But they were co-operative and eager for publicity.
We were taken upstairs in a mosque and, to my shock, were introduced to a dozen or more would-be suicide bombers in their mid-teens, who declared their fervent wish to martyr themselves for their cause.
At the time, there had been no suicide bombs in Israel. Some Hezbollah members in Lebanon had blown themselves up, but they were Shi’ite Muslims: Palestinian Sunnis were not supposed to go in for that sort of thing. Yet here I was, looking at a bunch of boys with kaffirs masking their faces, brandishing knives and practising karate in a place of worship. These weren’t boy scouts in a church hall; they were being trained to become fanatical killers by their religious elders.
When I heard the other week that Cat Stevens had been refused entry to America, I thought good riddance. "
And our new friend Aya has the enormous temerity to speak of Baruch Goldstein.
AYA:
"...for a split second in my head made a connection in that Muslim men were evil, terrorist, children killers. I don't know why I thought that..."
Don't be frightened. That's just your brain using common sense to make logical judgment.
Of course, not all muslims are jihadist murderers - just like all nazi party members weren't concentration camp executioners. However, all jihadists are muslims. And all muslims acknowledge islam's own self-proclaimed ideology for dealing with non-muslims. Some muslims act on this belief, such as your 'terrorist, children killers'.
We have what appears to be an emboldened Muslim over at the JW thread titled "Film-maker's funeral sparks violence" in case any of you feel like slapping him around.....
DCWatson-
I think he ran off to grease up his goat.
Gorbachev is still seen by many in the West as one who helped democratize Russia and dissolve the evil empire. What people tend to forget is that he didn't have very much choice, and that he worked very hard to keep the Communist Party in power. Even though he liked many things about the West, and he probably wanted to see us Soviets richer and more free, his convictions were always totalitarian. He believed that the Party should continue ruling, only it whould be "nice" about it. Naturally, it didn't happen that way.
One more thing about Gorbachev, he's always been a huge sucker for establishment. He was dying to be a member of "refined elites", and that quality of his was responsible for his sucking up to Thatcher and Reagan, much more than his alleged love of freedom.
An opinionated folk singer once supported the death decree against Salmon Rushdie. An opinionated folk singer donated to organizations that support terrorism. How can this opinionated folk singer be a man of peace? It you want to call islam a peaceful religion, then call it a pieceful religion. (Pieceful- think of body fragments from suicide bombers)
Aya, what makes you think that it is the aim of posters here 'to help Muslim countries'?
Most of us just want to be rid of the Muslims who are causing social unrest in western society.
Nobody here is 'pretending to care about human rights' - we mainly care about our own rights, and those are being diminished day by day thanks to Muslim terrorists. Let Muslims fight for their rights, as most Western peoples had to do.
It is not our task to help Muslims countries.
As for your suggestions, thanks, but if Western govts. had the welfare of their people at heart, instead of pandering to troublemaking Muslim immigrants, we would not need to protect our selves against these imported barbarians.
A reprise of another example of Yusuf Islam's contribution to peace and understanding, posted on JihadWatch in late September of this year, when YI was kept from entering the US. The account appeared in the National Post:
TORONTO - Yusuf Islam, the British singer formerly known as Cat Stevens, was the guest of honour at a Toronto fundraising dinner hosted by an organization that has since been identified by the Canadian government as a "front" for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.
In a videotape of the 1998 event obtained by the National Post, Mr. Islam describes Israel as a "so-called new society" created by a "so-called religion" and urges the audience to donate to the Jerusalem Fund for Human Services to "lessen the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine and the Holy Land."
"Yusuf Islam was awarded the "Man for Peace" award in Rome"
I'm sure Salman Rushdie will be pleased to know this...
