Shalom said Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath had publicly ruled out poisoning as a cause of Arafat's death. Shalom said Israel had allowed medical teams from Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia to examine Arafat before he was taken to France.

I think most people can now guess as to what the cause of Mr Arafat's death was.....
On the other hand, look at all the conspiracy theories that were spawned when the Kennedy family refused to let JFK be autopsied.
You'll know the Palestinians are ready for peace the day they reveal what Arafat really died of and see him for what he really was.

It seems that Arafat did indeed die of poisoning. He had had a series of lethal rectal suppositories--bio-terrorism. Irony!
One thing you can be damned sure of is that if there was even the most remote clinical evidence that Arafat died of poisoning and that the culprits were Israel (and not Palestinian rivals), that the cause of his death would not be held in secret as it is being.
For Hamas and Islamic Jihad to issue such claims just goes to show how absolutely morally and intellectually bankrupt these organizations are. (as though we didn't already know that)

I watched the funeral on FNC this morning. It looked like they would try to go to Jerusalem with the body for a little while. I was relieved when things calmed down. I know Israel can handle things but I would hate to see them lose anybody in a showdown with the paleos.
I was rather amused to read this today on aljazeera.com: "French doctors at the Percy hospital said that the Palestinian leader died at 0230 GMT. They refused to reveal the exact cause of his death, saying that information was for his family only." Things that make you go hmmmm.
The NEXT PHASE now begins. Which among the gunmen will take his place? Will there be a civil war or will the UN or another agency have to IMPOSE peace? Stay tuned for further developments.

The UN lacks the ability to "impose" peace in Gaza or anywhere else without the active participation of one or more of the major powers.
The only nation I could see having even the slightest interest in sending troops over there is France, and they're busy trying to pacify another of their former colonies at the moment.
This should be interesting to watch.

Unless chicken soup is also popular with Muslims, Libbysmom is right about the Donato cartoon in the Toronto Sun. However, Andy Donato isn't the most subtle or intelligent editorial cartoonist, so, given the Sun's editorial board, I don't think the intention was to offend the Jewish community.
If, by the remotest chance, it turns out that it was poison, I'd still say there'd be other people more anxious to see Arafart out of the way than the Israelis. His intransigence and predictable mendacity was really a gift to Sharon.
Interesting that most of the funeral processions that we have seen on TV the paly dead are wrapped in some sort of cloth with their face exposed and usually the crowd is seen fawning over the exposed body....I have never seen a closed casket such as the one arafat was in...wonder why? Might I add that was that was the most undignified, classless, disgusting, chaotic farce of a funeral I have ever seen....it was perfectly befitting of the former terrorist arafat.

Danato has followed the MiddleEast issues for a long time now and his other cartoons on Arafat
depicted his lack of accountibility for almost all decisions he made.
Remember I mention the shock on his face when meeting Satan,and not that he died from soup,he expected to be with Allah for all his deeds and if the point was his shock on being dead then

As for Arafat giving blood I commented on that earlier,he was frightened and shakey so until I see the actual person that got the blood there

Ala-sux: Thanks for the link. As an iconoclaustic Calvinist, I can only say that Andy DOntato's Satan looks more kindly than his Arafat! And I am someone who believes that there really is such a being, and that he is about as purely malevolent as you can get.
Arafat was not the only poisonous character in the Middle East. In "Shooting an Elephant", George Orwell describes how people with power are pushed along by the expectations of the governed. In Arafat's case, he seized an opportunity to take charge of an emotionally poisoned community, and found himself carried along on that community's violence, lack of imagination, factiousness, and other torrents of poison. His saying one thing to CLinton and Ehud Barak and quite another to his own street was not so much duplicity as his knowing full well that he'd have been lynched or worse had he taken Barak up on his peace plan. In short, Arafat was a little, opportunistic hustler who ended up trying to handle something way too big for him.
On Thursday evening's Channel 5 news in the UK they interviewed a Palaeostinian Lecturer from Leicester University who was ranting about how "The Jews" [TM] (i.e. the Israelis) had poisoned Arafart. She was not challenged and her word was taken as fact. Out-bloody-rageous!
It's bad enough that this Islamic blood lible exists (remember Muhammed claimed himself to have been poisoned by "The Jews" when served poisoned lamb by Zainab bint al-Harith after the seige of Khaybar), but for it to be given air time, and go unchallenged on a major TV channel is another thing entirely.
