New York public facility hosts fundraiser for art exhibit that vilifies Israelis and extols suicide bombers

This whitewash of jihadist murder of innocent civilians by suicide bombers is happening today. From Honest Reporting, with thanks to all those who brought this to my attention:

This Saturday (Nov. 20), a fundraiser will be held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York, raising money to bring a Palestinian art exhibit to the New York metro area. Here's one of the paintings from the proposed exhibit (previously shown in Houston, TX), portraying Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon collecting and boiling a young Palestinian's blood:

The painting rehashes the historic anti-Semitic blood libel, with Sharon as sadistic torturer and the United States his accomplice.

Suicide bombers are also praised in the 'art' exhibit ― the official introduction explains that

[t]o several of the artists, the subject of the martyrs is an all-important topic. A true martyr is anyone who gives his life in service of his people, including... suicide bombers that attack Israeli civilians.

One of the works ... 'pay[s] homage to the first 13 martyrs in the current uprising.'

Though two state legislators and local Jewish groups urged Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano to cancel the fundraiser ― which will be held in a public building ― Spano has decided to allow Saturday's event to take place.

In the (NY) Journal-News, the protesting legislators clarify that

this isn't about free speech - it's about whether to allow [the fundraiser] on county property. Spano has banned gun shows from the County Center because he opposes such a use of the space, they argue, and he should exert the same discretion here.

Mr. Spano - do you really want to fan the flames of hatred in your backyard?

To allow this event to take place in a public building - in Westchester County NY - is going beyond the "free speech" arena. It is blatantly providing a forum for and legitimizing anti-semitism in the USA.

Interesting . . . how islamists appropriate American ideas and words to use against us. Words and ideas like: , racial profiling, prejudice, racism, multi-culturalism, diversity, discrimination. Yet, these words are totally foreign in their native countries and culture.

The simple truth is that Islamists are Judeo/Christian phobic - not just in the middle east . . .but right here, in the melting pot of America. This planned forum is a "Hate-fest" . . .designed to inspire, motivate and mobilize the hatred that once consumed Europe under Hitler. It took a world war to resolve that hatred - albeit for a brief period . . .now we see it's ugly head exposed in our midst.

WE MUST CONTINUE TO FIGHT TYRANNY AND OPPRESSION because it is not only WRONG, it is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE to America's best interests.

Are Arabs who blow themselves up in Israel martyrs?

If so than means that Arabs who crash planes into high buildings in New York are too.

Come on, New Yorkers, where is your sense of outrage that this exhibition is being held in your city?

Impressive. We can't have a Nativity Scene, Menorrah, or any Christian or Jewish religious expression on the government property. Those that have dissenting opinions couldn't make them nor, heaven forbid, those that produce art that demean based on race, ethnicity or religion are prohibited on the government property. The press would scream and protestors would march.

Why are the Palestinians given a pass? Are New York officials afraid of them, naive, or is there some other reason? How will the press handle this? Will anyone march in objection? Perhaps the best way to make it go away will be TO NOT BUY THE TICKETS! Can we count on New Yorkers (and others) to make that intelligent decision?

Here is the text of the letter I sent:

Dear Mr. Spano,

I am certain that you have already received countless emails protesting the use of public facilities for the exhbition of Palestinian art. While the artists certainly have the freedom to portray life in any way they choose, allowing the glorification of suicide bombings against Israeli civilians is appalling.

Not only are Israelis injured or killed in this vicious attacks, Americans and Canadians are as well. My beautiful foster daughter was injured and her best friend was killed in Jerusalem. Both are Americans, both were from New York state.

You are entitled to your own opinion about politics. However, as a public servant you ought to consider the implications of supporting terrorists who have killed Americans, and therefore I beg you to consider shutting down that exhibit of "art" in order not to help fund any more murders.

Yours most sincerely,
XXXXX

Too bad NY isn't within driving distance of where I live. I'd be there with bells on protesting that exhibit. What are people thinking??? Tolerance of murderers makes those who are tolerant, well...murderers' accomplices.

Did anyone else send an email to Mr. Spano?

Yes libbysmom, I copied your letter, made a few changes and emailed it. Others do your part. Under subject heading state something positive about islam (which they are none) and it will be read.If you state something negative, it will be deleted and not read.

Here's my own letter. Not nearly as well written but may be helpful.

I was shocked and saddened by the "art" I saw that was going to be exhibited on public property at a fundraiser. One of the paintings was openly Anti-American as well as anti-Semitic. As an American citizen I respect the right of free speech, but nothing in respecting free speech demands that anti-American propaganda be exhibited on public property.

As a county official, please react firmly and bravely. We must stand up against those who hate us instead of allowing them to use our own tolerance to our disadvantage.

If it were the KKK, you would know immediately that the exhibit shouldn't continue. I don't see any difference here.

Sincerely, and trusting your better instincts will prevail,

Ummagumma, what a great idea! I'm afraid that my subject header wasn't as positive as yours, so mine probably will end up in the trash.

And former liberal, yours is great! I especially liked your closing, that was a very polite way to end the letter.

I've sent this link out to lots of people. Hopefully, thanks to Mr. Spencer, soemthing will be done about this.

And btw, former liberal, I love your user name. That could describe me, too. Call me 'sadder but wiser'.

How about a "dhimmi of the year" award ? It's getting near the New Year so now's a good time to look back at the moonbats, traitors and appeasers who have tried their damndest to whitewash the cult of death. Maybe we could have a round-up of the most sickening pro-islam comments from our politicians (how about this one from Senator Patty Murray - "Osama Bin Laden is popular amongst muslims because he's been out in those countries for decades building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilites and people are extremely grateful. He's made their lives better." ) and the MSM jounalists. We could have dhimmi news channel of the year (al-NBC or al-BBC) , dhimmi newspaper of the year (The "Independent"), dhimmi Country of The Year (Spain ? Sweden ? Canada ?) and dhimmi non-muslim religious figure ( has to be tha Arsebishop Of Canterbury !). And in this case, Andrew Spano as dhimmi "local politician of the year".

I live in New York and I was outraged to find out about this "art" event. I am sending the link to my friends, asking them to voice their opinions to the person responsible for bringing this mess here. But, honestly, living in New York, you constantly encounter people who either "understand" the suicide bombers, or who think that with proper research they can find a way to understand. In many cases it is quite hopeless to reason with these people by telling that no amount of research can justify, say, torturing hundreds of kids for several days and then killing them (and shooting into wounded kids and mothers who are right there looking into their killer's eyes) - yes, I mean the Beslan massacre. It is equally as hopeless to argue that while in Iraq much is done to avoid killing civillans (but in many cases it is really hard to do because those insurgents are hiding behind women and children, the brave souls they are) while the terrorists are after exactly the helpless women and children. At times I am disgusted with the behavior of the liberal types saying that "terrorism is a matter of perspective" - yep, a quote. And huge numbers of those liberal types are exaclty in New York (don't think they will account 64% of the population eligible to vote, but I'd say half of that percentage are quite devout). After Bush was re-elected New York Magazine had this article "How to Survive Another Four Years" or something like that and it contained the following phrase: the terrorists are attacking us because of the war in Iraq (!) (this is not a joke, many people do indeed think exactly along these lines!) We did something wrong, so that is why they are plotting to nuke us! Let's do as they say and "understand" whatever they want us to understand, and they will leave us alone (little do those terrorist apologists understand that "leaving us alone" in that case would mean to let some of us exist as slaves under one big crescent moon).

it's interesting that the official introduction to the exhibit states, "[t]o several of the artists, the subject of the martyrs is an all-important topic. A true martyr is anyone who gives his life in service of his people, including... suicide bombers that attack Israeli civilians." i would also call attention to, "One of the works ... 'pay[s] homage to the first 13 martyrs in the current uprising.'"

if one but looks up the word "martyr" in the dictionary, the following definitions come up:

NOUN: 1. One who chooses to suffer death rather than renounce religious principles. 2. One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle. 3a. One who endures great suffering: a martyr to arthritis. b. One who makes a great show of suffering in order to arouse sympathy.

TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: mar·tyred, mar·tyr·ing, mar·tyrs
1. To make a martyr of, especially to put to death for devotion to religious beliefs. 2. To inflict great pain on; torment.

to imply that such suffering in the cause of aggressive and wanton murder of innocents is somehow a pure match for the above definitions is a perversion in thinking. one has to wonder if these same deranged artists and curators would "pay homage" to suicide bombers that engaged in wonton murder of palestinians -- i.e. were civilized people to undertake such barbarity. i'd have to speculate not. rather, what we have is a clearcut example that substantiates sonofwalker's theory of postmodern philobarbarism

Quick, Keithjoy! We need you to point this out to your liberal friends and bring them around................!

Oh.
Since you absolutely refused to Ever criticize one of your own.... this will go untouched.
