An Islamic court in northern Nigeria has discharged and acquitted a pregnant teenager of her conviction for adultery, for which she had been sentenced to be stoned to death.Presiding judge Muhammad Mustapha Umar of the Upper Sharia court said on Wednesday that the lower Sharia (Islamic law) court was wrong in sentencing Hajara Ibrahim, 18, to death by stoning last October.
"This court observes the following faults in the lower court judgement. Firstly, the judge was wrong in sentencing Hajara to 100 lashes and death by stoning, all at the same time," he said.
"Secondly, Dauda Sani was charged to court for having an affair with Hajara which he denied. Therefore, the lower court should have dismissed the case and sentenced Hajara's father who was the plaintiff to 80 lashes for slander."
The judge at the court in Dass, in the northern Bauchi state, said the lower court also erred by not giving Hajara the chance to defend herself.
Hard to believe such murky logic belongs to a "jurist." I would like to think intelligent Muslims cringe when reading such contradicting drivel from supposedly learned men. I'm afraid, however, that neither reason or comedy comes easily to a mind trained in the Koran.

Yes that might be problem if justice is to be served fair and impartial. Even then; is her own testimony on behalf of herself equal too half that of a man in the Hadith 1:301.

His second point should be his first point.
His first and second points are a testament to Islamic atrociousness and stupidity.
Has anyone in the vast middle east ever heard of a paternity test?
Maybe they were just trying to protect Hajaras honor?

What's truely frightening about this Shariah-Law is that in one case of stoning I read that the Islamic court found her guilty enough to
convict her but somehow ruled that the man who had sex with her was innocent because of a lack on evidence.
Figure that one out,you rob a bank and a worker
assaults you,later the bank employee gets charge
but the judge rule the robber is innocent based on the lack of evidence.
If the guy was in the bank to rob it then the worker must have hit him to have charges against them,ironically the Muslim man was also the witness to proving she had sex with him,but then
there wasn't enough evidence to show he was guilty.
This show the negative bais towards females within Islam,I no longer beliebe the tripe spewing from Imam's about peace and tolerance
being the foundation of Islam.

The Sharia law is islamic totalitarianism. If if wasn't for public outcry and Amnesty Intl. that girl would have suffered a barbaric death. We must pressure Islamic countries or declare war-if necessary- to put a stop against stoning.
I feel optimistic that one day, Islam will cease to be.
Once we get rid of Islam in the west, there will be no option but to get rid of it everywhere else.
And then stoning for adultery will just be a horrible part of history.
Well, now all the poor girl has to watch out for is her family, all those brothers, cousins, and uncles who will dispose of her in a "honor" killing.
