From AP, with thanks to Twostellas:
A survey showed yesterday that many Indonesians support the implementation of strict Islamic law, with nearly 60 percent saying they want adulterers to be whipped and 40 percent backing cutting off a thief's hand. The survey, conducted by the U.S.-funded Freedom Institute, also found 16 percent of people polled refused to condemn terror attacks by the al-Qaida linked regional terror group Jemaah Islamiyah if they were committed to fight Muslim oppression. Still, 59 percent condemned the attacks, while 25 percent said they had no opinion.
The findings will likely rekindle concerns that radical Islam is gaining a foothold in the world's most populous Muslim nation, which has long embraced a moderate form of the religion.
"It is a worrying phenomenon," said Ulil Abdala, the institute's head. "There is a strong indication that radical Islam is gaining ground."

CAIR Canada has a posting on their webpage where they are demanding "Sharia-Law' for Muslims in Canada, they say it's a religious right and will respect human rights and Canada's Constitution.
So if Canada's Charter of rights will be the final yardstick for justice then why bring in Sharia if it's not going to give any extra rights or protection.
Dr.Muhamed Elmasry is President of an Islamic org. in Canada and he endorses Sharia, but he also said in public that "All Israelis over 18 are valid taget for murder by suicide bombers because of the draft by Israel" .
Is this the idiot you want sitting on a board deciding the future of a female Muslims that didn't wear her Hijab in public.
NO ISLAM - KNOW PEACE
Ala~ I have a concern that the Canadian government- and the media- would not tell us right away if we were under attack. Especially if the initial attacks were very small-scale. I have an odd feeling a few things have happened already.
Gary said "I have an odd feeling a few things have happened already."
I agree with you %100 Gary. I don't trust these Liberal jerks any further than I can throw them. I think there are a few things going on already that aren't being reported properly in the "main stream" media. Thank God for bloggers and the internet in general.
BTW, do either you are ala-sux know of any good Canadian blogs?

That should read either you OR ala-sux...
Not as yet, sheik. However if any good Canadian bloggers are reading this... :P
I shall search some out.

Thanks for the info Gary.
...and thank God for people like Robert Spencer for having a place where us anti-jihadists can exchange info.
One gets a surreal feeling reading the results of these polls of Muslim opinions and attitudes. What state of mind would possess a person to answer 'no opinion' about 'condemning' Jemaah Islamiyah terror attacks, after Bali, Jakarta (a couple of times)and other murders? Surely every Muslim knows the aims of Jemaah Islamiyah: Islamic Sharia throughout South East Asia and eventually throughout the world in the global Jihad. How can have 'no opinion' about condemning murder for that end? What is one thinking? Down the rabbit hole we go...
And how does one know if Muslim 'condemnation' in a poll is sincere? How does on know that the responses are not taqiyya?
But in the context of the strange polling relatively consistent numbers seem to emerge. 1/3 of Muslims in the US think the war on terror is a war on Islam. So, if they take their scriptures serioulsy, 1/3 of Muslims in the US feel they have an obligation to wage jihad against the US government. That logically follows, unless the want to deny the obligation to wage Jihad to defend the faith against violent attack by Infidel States. Do these Muslims reject that obligation?
In the BBC poll two years ago (another strange beast) it looked like about 1/2 had 'extremist sympathies' (refused to blame Arabs for 9/11 et alia). And polls in Pakistan seem to show at least 60% are quite radical. And Muslim scholars, like Mustafa Akyol have had the courtesy of admitting (tacitly) that a majority of Muslims are 'in play' as far as 'extremist' (read Jihadist) sympathies are concerned.
So, in the context of taqiyaa and puzzling responses to polls, it looks like around the world at least 1/2 of Muslims (probably less in Western and more in Muslim countries, of course) harbor some support for the Jihad advocated by al Qaeda. That's what the numbers seem to solidly suggest to me. I don't understand why folks cannot admit this reality and deal with it, as Robert is trying to do. The words are written on the wall in blood while silently mouthed: Death to Infidels.
To find the truth in Indonesia is like looking for a snow-flake in hell
It is possible that Indonesians are just no good? Sure sounds like it.
