A terror suspect facing extradition to the US tried to buy large amounts of chemicals and made shipments to Pakistan, a court heard today.Babar Ahmad, 30, of Fountain Road, Tooting, south London is accused by the US of raising money to support terrorism in Chechnya and Afghanistan via websites and emails.
It is also claimed he possessed plans for a US navy battle group in the Gulf, including comments on how the ships were vulnerable to terrorist attack.
After hearings to decide whether to extradite Ahmad to the US for trial Bow Street magistrates court heard that from mid-1997 to early 1998 Ahmad sought to purchase up to 5,000 tons of sulphur phosphate.
A search of his parents’ home in Tooting revealed letters showing Ahmad had attempted to buy large amounts of chemicals on behalf of a third party. It was claimed there was also evidence that Ahmad had made a “miscellaneous” shipment to Pakistan.
James Lewis QC, acting on behalf of the US Government, told the court that Ahmad ran a website named after Osama bin Laden’s deceased spiritual adviser, www.azzam.com, which aimed to raise funds for terrorism and encouraged terrorist acts.
Mr Lewis said the website suggested that it was a religious obligation for all Muslims who could not fight to donate money to aid Jihad.
He said the website stated: “Jihad is a profitable investment that provides valuable dividends.
“Muslims must use every means at their disposable for Jihad.”

Swarms of pink locusts swept through the Egyptian capital on Wednesday, evoking the biblical description of the plagues which struck in the time of Moses.
The swarms of millions flew high above tall towers or swooped down onto treelined streets, where scared pedestrians stamped
on them or ran for cover.
The flying insects arrived from neighboring Libya after devouring the countryside in central and western Africa in past months. But locust experts said they were unlikely to wreak similar havoc in Egypt, where agriculture is a cornerstone of the economy.
"This is really horrible," said one man as he ran past a building where locusts, some of them more than 3 inches (7.6 cm) long, smacked into office windows or landed on cars.
Some of the locusts, which arrived and disappeared in waves, settled on shrubs and trees. Authorities battled swarms at Cairo international airport, but flights were unaffected
"They are driven by strong winds ... Under current climatic conditions they will not likely cause damage," Christian Pantenius, a locust expert with the United Nations (news - web sites) Food and Agriculture Organization (news - web sites) (FAO), told Reuters.
Pantenius said the locusts would not feed voraciously when the temperature was under 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Forecasts put Cairo's temperature for the coming days at below 25 degrees Celsius.
Pantenius said the locusts were arriving in medium-sized swarms. "They will very likely either die or migrate further to the south," he said, adding that the Saudi and Sudanese authorities had been alerted
The locusts appeared to be passing through Egypt and did not pose a threat to agriculture, Egypt's official Middle East News Agency quoting Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Ahmed el-Laithi as telling a news conference.
Agriculture is a key sector of the Egyptian economy, employing millions of people in the North African country, which has a population of about 70 million.
The locust swarms have already traveled on the wind from North Africa to Cyprus. They can form swarms of tens of millions, occupying hundreds of square kilometers (miles).

[Muslim]* Man guilty of Kriss race murder
Daanish Zahid was convicted after denying the charges
An Asian man has been convicted of the racially motivated murder of Glasgow schoolboy Kriss Donald.
Daanish Zahid, 20, had pleaded not guilty to assaulting, abducting and murdering Kriss in March.
The teenager's burned and stabbed body was found on a walkway near the River Clyde in the east end of Glasgow.
Zahid admitted being in a car at the scene where the 15-year-old was killed but said he did not leave the car and blamed two others for Kriss's death.
The murder - in which Kriss was knifed 13 times - occurred after another Asian man was hit on the head by a bottle outside a club the previous night, the trial heard.
Community's shock at murder
The jury took two-and-a-quarter hours to find him guilty by unanimous verdict of the charges of racially-aggravated murder, abduction and of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by destroying evidence by setting fire to the car used to snatch Kriss.
He was also convicted of attacking Kriss's friend Jamie Wallace, 20, as the pair walked along Kenmure Street in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow.
Kriss Donald's body was found in the east end of Glasgow
Daanish Zahid had denied murder, claiming Kriss was stabbed and beaten by others, but jurors decided that he had "acted in concert" and was therefore equally guilty.
At the High Court in Glasgow, sentence was deferred for three weeks to allow reports on Daanish Zahid to be compiled.
On the first day of the trial, another accused, Zahid Mohammed, 20, whose not guilty plea to the murder charge was accepted, admitted abducting the teenager.
'Chop them up'
Giving evidence, Zahid Mohammed told the court that he was part of a group which had set out in a car to find a young, white male who fitted the description of someone who had carried out the bottle attack the previous evening.
Mohammed said one of the occupants of the car said they would "chop them up and take their eyes out and stab them".
Zahid Mohammed recounted the details of the abduction
They came across Kriss and another teenager in Kenmure Street.
Mohammed said he began to fight with the other youth, but Kriss was thrown into the car, placed in the rear seat well and driven away.
As he was bundled into the car, Kriss begged: "Why me? I'm only 15."
The car was then driven on a 200-mile journey to Strathclyde Park, near Motherwell and to Dundee, before returning to Glasgow where Kriss was killed in what the prosecution described as a "callous execution".
Forensic evidence was given which said that the teenager may have been alive when he had petrol poured on him and was set on fire. His naked and burned body was found the following morning by a man who thought it was an animal carcass.
Warrants have been issued for three other people, two of whom were incriminated in court by Daanish Zahid.
Statement from mother
Outside the court, Detective Superintendent Eliot Mackenzie read a statement on behalf of Kriss's mother Angela.
The statement said: "I'd like to thank all those concerned with the inquiry into Chris's abduction and murder.
"I'd also like to thank all the people who helped the police with their inquiries and particularly those who were called to give evidence.
A tribute to the teenager after he was abducted and killed
"I do not want to say much more because, as we all know, there are others who still have to face trial for killing Kriss.
"Kriss meant everything to me, his sisters and his brother.
"We get little comfort from this result and will not be able to move on until all those responsible have been brought to justice."

Disgusting stuff, stabbing and burning a 15 year old alive - looks like the Jihad has started in the UK... I wonder was "Chopping Him Up" some reference to Nick Berg beheading which happend at a similar time (the Glasgow murder took place in March 2004). The bit about "taking their eyes out" perhaps referenced the Chechen practice of ripping the eyes out of live captured Russians.
* Of course the BBC could never bring itself to state that the 15 year old was murdered by a gang of Muslims - that might offend people, but "Zahid Mohammed" doesnt sound like a Christian, Jewish, Hindi, Buddhist etc name to me.

Just a few things to add to that, I notice this Mosque is on the street where the schoolboy was abducted from, (http://www.ramadhan.u-net.com/kenmure_msq.htm) so presumably the gang finished prayers at around 14:30 and then abducted the lad at 15:00.
It also appears that 3 of the gang fled to Pakistan and so will escape justice (http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=137&id=846802004).

The only difference between the OT and the koran is that most of the OT Law doesn't apply anymore. It is fulfilled by the NT. The OT does not fortell Mohammed, or Joseph Smith- the book of mormon. It only fortells our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Icons like Mohammod and Joseph Smith are not even mentioned once. Apostle Paul warns in the NT- If anyone preaches another Gospel contrarty to the one I have preached-EVEN AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN- Let him be accursed!! Both Mohammed and Joseph Smith claim they were preached different gospels from an angel in Heaven. This proves that both the koran and the Book of mormon are false texts.
I know the Mormons are good people- my apologies to them.

Dangerous
With all respect to my brother from houston, this is a dangerous and wrong translation of the Qur'an by non-Muslims. For further info, just run a search on the Net or read Islam for Beginners by Ziauddin Sardar. Dawood et al try to emphasise sex and violence in their interpretation and it is sad to see that this Penguin edition is the most freely available. There is no translation that I particularly like, I would suggest Ahmed Ali although this is highly rational and rationality loses the spiritual element imho. I think Muhammad Asad's trans. is also good, although he too is a rationalist. And Amina Wadud's 'Quran & Woman' is an important reference also

Thanks for the heads up on the Koran. I found one right away. I had to laugh when I read the review above...Yeah, he doesn't recommend infidels read the one Muslims read. He prefers the whitewashed one for the kafir -- the one minus the rape, blood and gore. Can anyone spell b.u.l.l.s.h.*.t?
