Van Gogh suspect 'the perfect Jihad recruit'

From Expatica, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

AMSTERDAM — Dutch media's attention turned on Friday to profiling the suspected killer of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, with one report claiming Mohammed B. was a "dream candidate" for extremist Jihad recruiters.

Newspaper Trouw said second-generation Moroccan immigrant youths are being targeted by Islamic extremists who hope to recruit them for Jihad, or holy war.

One of the characteristics of the recruiters is that they isolate youths from their family and friends. There was nothing out of the ordinary with Mohammed B. until he allegedly fell into the hands of extremists.

B. reportedly became strongly religious in 2003, and as a fundamentalist Muslim he was a target for jihad recruiters. Extremists look for Muslim youths from second-generation immigrant families who speak Dutch well and are well educated.

The perfect candidate would be going through an identity crisis with little hope in society. They would, for example, have a criminal record. They would also have strong views about the oppression of Muslims....

B. had also carried out volunteer work for some time for the Stichting Eigenwijks, an organisation of co-operative residents in Amsterdam Slotervaart.

But B. started placing increasing demands on his work situation in view of his faith, eventually making it impossible for him to continue working for the foundation, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

The foundation said B. refused to serve alcoholic drinks, and his opposition to being involved in activities where both men and women were present was eventually considered "incompatible" with his function. The foundation and B. decided to part ways.

Eigenwijks helped a group of youths from Overtoomse Veld in Amsterdam to set up a workgroup in 2001. The group was concerned with the lack of adequate solutions put forward after Moroccan youths sparked riots in the suburb in April 1998.

The workgroup successfully involved youths in a series of activities, and B. was instrumental in the group's work. He was also part of the editorial team of the neighbourhood newspaper Over 't Veld.

Eigenwijks — which said it would be closely involved in repairing community damage inflicted by Van Gogh's murder — said it had regretted the fact that B. stopped working with the workgroup as he applied himself further to his faith. He "slowly ended all other social activities".

NO ISLAM - KNOW PEACE

Interesting post, ala-sux.

Why is it that when the jihadists succeed in hijacking airplane-loads of civilians and flying them into buildings, that the "success" of the "operation" is Allah's will, but when the Israeli Defence Forces take out the likes of Rantisi, etc., without much in the way of collaterol damage, or when the Israeli armed forces not only manage to repel a small host of armies, but beat them back onto their own turf, it's not, and they have to relinquish the ground they gained as bargaining chips for peace?

Once again,
its islam
rotten at its core
which is where a lost moslem looks
for succor

mo was a piece of crap
so you follow in his footsteps
and you're a piece of the same

and that's what islam offers the muslim in need
the opportunity to be a piece of crap

The islamic ideology is poison to our species.

The connection between islamic faith and criminal behavior is very obvious, the article says that he became increasingly religious, until he eventually turned into a fanatic jihadist.
All muslim population should be expelled from Holland and all mosques closed down.

Been following this story and it's sounding more and more like the white wash is cranking up to water down this murder incident and sweep it under the rug as quickly as possible. It's seeming as though the Dutch government doesn't want to offend the Mussie Islamic "citizens" of Holland. I'm of the opinion that the Dutch government know they have a tiger by the tail and don't know what the hell to do about it. The Good peoples of Holland are being led to the sacrificial alter with nary a whimper, and led there by a complicit government. The free world is sure to mourn their loss.

"The Good peoples of Holland are being led to the sacrificial alter with nary a whimper, and led there by a complicit government."

Well, what can they do? They're just a small European country, can't go againt others in EU. It's sad but Europe is surrendering without a fight...

THE GLOBAL SALAFI JIHAD

Joining the Jihad

The prospective terrorists joined the jihad through pre-existing social bonds with people who were already terrorists or had decided to join as a group. Affiliation with the jihad was through friendship, kinship, discipleship and worship. In 65% of the cases, pre-existing friendship bonds played an important role in this process. The typical scenario was for homesick young men to drift to familiar settings, like mosques, to find companionship and alleviate their loneliness. There, small clusters of friendship formed spontaneously and they often moved in together in apartments. Another 15% joined the jihad through relatives already in the jihad. The Indonesians were all disciples of Abu Bakar Baasyir. They had first studied in one of his two religious boarding schools and then joined the Jemaah Islamiyah, which he had founded. The last 10% gave religious beliefs as the only reason for joining the jihad.

Whatever the source of their social bonds, these groups underwent a long period of intense social interaction in their apartments and developed strong mutual intimacy, which relieved their previous distress. As they became closer, they progressively adopted the beliefs and faith of their most extreme members. Their new salafi faith distanced them further from their childhood friends and family, leading to increased isolation and loyalty to the group, which in turn intensified their faith. They were ready to join the jihad. The critical factor here was the existence of a human link to the jihad, which could arrange training in Afghanistan. This was usually a peripheral acquaintance of the group and was often a chance encounter. Formal invitation and acceptance to join the jihad was done at the end of their training in Afghanistan after senior al Qaida officers had a chance to evaluate the candidate.
Growth

There was no common element detected in all the terrorists studied except, obviously, their link to the jihad. A social network analysis of these links is a useful and parsimonious approximation of the structure and behavior the Global Salafi Jihad and lends itself to computer simulation. Unlike a military organization, the global jihad is structured around popular human hubs surrounded by more isolated human nodes. From the historical data, it appears that the jihad grew haphazardly around these hubs. Examples are the rise of the Indonesian cluster around Baasyir and of the Maghreb Arab cluster first around Fateh Kamel in Montreal and later around Amar Makhlulif in London. Surprisingly, there is no evidence of a comprehensive top down recruitment program in the global jihad. The pressure comes from the bottom up; prospective young men are eager to join the movement. I have detected no dedicated "recruiter" in my search. Nor is there any evidence of any recruitment committee with full staff and its own budget at al Qaida headquarters and nor any evidence of aggressive publicity campaigns to increase membership. This absence of proselytism kept its profile low enough despite its size to avoid raising the appropriate alarm in the U.S. government. On the other hand, the jihad grew spontaneously, through a pattern of preferential attachment, which left it vulnerable to the uncoordinated preferences of potential candidates. This has created huge gaps in the jihad. Specifically, it is without a large pool of members able to operate clandestinely in the U.S., and thus limited in its ability to wage war on U.S. soil. Its only effort to remedy this weakness was to identify trainees already in Afghan training camps, who could travel to the U.S. with a Saudi, European or American passport. I found no evidence of any comprehensive recruitment drive in the U.S. This weakness will deepen with increased U.S. vigilance against the jihad.

The growth of the jihad depends on its ability to gain new members. Anger at U.S. policies may increase the pool of potential candidates, but they still need to establish the crucial link with the jihad to become part of the jihad. If the pool is composed of isolated individuals, growth will be slow because each potential member will need to find his own bridge to the jihad. If the pool is composed of clusters of close knit friends, relatives or students, its growth will be explosive as new members will then serve as efficient links to new potential clusters. The degree of tolerance of the jihad also affects its rate of growth. In a "tolerant" country, where people can publicly advertise their connection to the jihad, potential members can ask them to serve as their link to arrangements for training and recruitment. This was the case in Western Europe, the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Malaysia, Indonesia and Salafi mosques prior to 9/11/01, when people who had undergone training in Afghanistan could openly boast about their exploits to strangers. With the post 9/11 worldwide policy of clampdown on Mujahedin and threat of incarceration for even peripheral involvement in the jihad, people who could have provided potential links have become reluctant to reveal their affiliation. This will considerably slow down the growth of the jihad. Known places where links to the jihad exist or existed should be closely monitored. They include mosques in Brooklyn, Milan, London, Montreal, Madrid, Hamburg, Roubaix and Khamis Mushayt, in Asir, Saudi Arabia.

The result of this growth pattern of preferential attachment is a topological map of nodes clustered around large hubs, called a scale free network. This has interesting properties. This type of network is robust and resists random attack. Stopping terrorists randomly at our borders will not affect its structure. It may stop terrorists from coming here, but will leave the network undisturbed. However, it is vulnerable to targeted attack, namely against its hubs. If the hubs are destroyed, the system breaks down into isolated nodes. The jihad will be incapable of mounting sophisticated large scale operations like the 9/11 attacks and be reduced to small attacks by singletons. It is of course possible for such nodes to try to become hubs and create their own little networks. Ahmed Ressam tried to recruit new untrained collaborators in the Millennial Plot after his original co-conspirators were unable to travel to the Canada. But such operations have not generally been successful. The hubs are vulnerable because most communications go through them. By following communications back to them, good police work would be able to identify and arrest these human hubs. This strategy has already shown considerable success. The arrests of Baasyir and Ali Ghufron have seriously disrupted the Indonesian cluster. The arrests of Zain al Abidin Hussein (abu Zubaydah), Fateh Kamel and Amar Makhlulif (abu Doha) have broken up the Maghreb Arab cluster. Less is known about the structure of the Core Arab cluster. No doubt that the arrests of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, his nephew Abdul Basit Karim (Ramzi Yousef) and the death of Subhi Mohammed abu Sittah (Mohamed Atef) have significantly weakened it. But the survival of many of its leaders such as Osama bin Laden and his son Saad, Ayman al-Zawahiri and Mohammed Ibrahim Makkawi (Sayf al-Adl) still makes it a potent threat. Future terrorist operations are most likely to come from this cluster.

My fears are that with "second generation" muslims being recruited for jihad throughout the EU community, that we may soon be experiencing suicide bombers in palestinian style.
It has already happened in Bezlan.

The good people of Holland seem to be waking up and demanding action. The demomstrations are proof of that.

Others that have been killed for "blasphamy"

Unfortunately, there is a history of violence against those individuals criticizing Islam.

According to Sharia Law: “The penalty for contempt of the Holy Prophet …is death and nothing else.”

# 1947: Iranian lawyer Ahmad Kasravi, present in court to defend himself against charges that he “attacked Islam,” was murdered by Islamic terrorists from the group Fadayan-e Islam;
# 1951: Members of Fadayan-e Islam assassinated Iranian Prime Minister Haji-Ali Razmara after a group of Muslim clerics issued a fatwa calling for his death;
# 1992: Egyptian author Faraj Foda was murdered by Muslims enraged at his “apostasy” from Islam.
# 1994: Nobel Prizewinning novelist Naguib Mahfouz was stabbed after being accused of blasphemy in Pakistan.

Now imagine what's going to happen if they also get their hands on some of the advanced chemical or bio WMD.

When I've discussed my concerns about Muslim immigration with people, both face to face and online, many have told me: "oh, but we had problems with previous immigrants too, you know. The Italians, the Greeks, the Slavs, the various Asian groups throughout the 50's, 60's, etc. But by the second and third generation, they blended in, assimilated, and enriched our society. It'll be the same with the Muslims," they blithely say.

Yes, I would agree with the first part, being one of those second generation immigrant kids, although I wouldn't say my parents were ever a "problem". But it seems the second part of their claim of future 'multicultural heaven' is not true. Seems like we're having more problems with the 2nd generation.

It's strange how a belief system like Islam can totally screw up a young mind like that. They see what life in the West is like, see the opportunities, the freedoms. Of course, we're not perfect and there are aspects of Western society which are not the best, but they can't deny that there is a pleasant difference between the West and the failed, backward dumps their parents came from. Yet they want to destroy the West. It's bizarre. It must be like some sort of total mind control. Like a cult.

Theo Van Gogh (PBUH)

A simple litmus test.

Find the most virulent right-wing, literalist christian Fred Phelps, Ralph Reed type, or even the Pope. Walk into his place of worship. Stand up and say ' I am a gay atheist and I don't think Jesus was anything but a man who probably got it on with Mary Magdalene'

Walk into a mosque in Medina (assuming you would be allowed to even get near it). Stand up and say ' I am a proud, pork eating infidel and I don't think Mohammed was anything but a 9 year old boffing dirty old caravan raider'

Follow these scenarios to their conclusion and see which one would survive the encounter.

I am definitely no rightwing Christian, but it is easy to see who my real enemies are.

The views of mudhead b. and all the others of his ilk who have been foisted upon the peoples of europe are not merely incompatible with a job but with his very presence in our societies, this is the core of the entire problem.

No Hindu, as far as I am aware has objected to our way of dress, or consumption of alcohol, or representaions of living things in pictures, or men and women socialising together, or a whole host of other normal everyday aspects of our western lifestyle, to the point of wanting to violently overthrow our states and impose the worship of Krishna and the caste system upon us.

The same goes for Jews, Buddhists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Pagans, Bahais, Taoists, Shintoists, Animists, and just about any other faith you care to name, so what is it about this much-trumpeted "religion of peace" that makes its adherents attitudes incompatible with every other type and form of human society?

I am not a fundamentalist christian, I would therefore feel out of place in any part of the world which had that as its lifestyle, which is why it would be pointless my actively seeking out such a society and going to live there, so why is this character, and all others like him, doing living anywhere else at all in the world, but in a muslim country, where he will not be offended by all the things he finds so objectionable in ours?

The peoples of europe, and elsewhere are indeed being hoodwinked by their political masters, but the reality gap is growing wider by the day, and the classic example of this was the recently deceased soviet union, all the rhetoric and carefully crafted party slogans are contradicted by the brutal obvious truth of real events taking place in front of the eyes of mr and mrs average european citizen, who are not as stupid as their smug champagne socialist leaders think they are, not by a long shot.

What will they do, these useless "leaders" when the boil bursts?

i have travelled many times to different parts of holland i have seen many changes in the population especially in the larger cities in recent years.
it would appear that the "rules of islam" go out of the window when it comes to murder/honour killings or making money i.e. selling drugs.
holland as many other countries now have to suffer the wraith of islamists for the slightist thing and what is left of free speech should not be guarded in speaking out against the short falls of islam and its dangers to those unaware of them.
sites like this provide one of the few outlets where ordinary people can discuss issues that seem to be "glossed" over or even ignored in for lack of a better term "main stream media".

This murder is infuriating.
I wanted to make some heavy comments when I first saw it on the news, but I've been doing my bit for Bush's re-election (swinging unsure voters in his favour, by giving them the view of "an outsider with nothing to gain from a Bush victory", explaining why I think Bush is the right choice, Kerry a fatal mistake.)

There will be an uprising soon, I'm mgoing to find out whats going on with the British alliance.
All people in the US and Europe, switched on to the threat of islam need to get together.

I was planing to visit Holland in May of 2005,my intesion was to pay tribute to the thousands of Canadians that Liberate Holland from the Nazis ( dispite the story in "Band of brother's" ) and were buried over there. Holland celebrates this every may 5th and since both my parents served for Canada in ww2 and my birthday is may 5th it would be very special to show the Dutch the face of a Canadian that got to grow up in a world that wasn't at war because others pay the price for my freedom.

But now Islam has spit on the graves of all those brave young men that weren'y told that one day Islam would replace the nazis in Hiolland.
What a waste of young men, died as to allow Muslims to murder the Dutch for exercising
free speech and have a different version of reality then them. I truely fear being killed for Allah since I am very white and have English skills that would center me out as Either American or your average Christian.
At least the Nazis had the guts to wear a armband or crest to let you know who wants you dead, these slimeballs dress as civilains and abuse democracy by plotting in private within Mosques and using "racism" and 'islamophobe"
to assure freedom of movement and detection of their financing terrorism.

Muslims already murdered 25 Canadians on 9/11/01 and now they spit on the grave of our war dead, what an insult, and they still have the nerve to play the Victim of racism and anti-Muslim
bigotry. I no longer care about them having their feelings hurt,in fact I wish they WOULD take some things personally, like denouncing the terrorists and not the act, like denying that the hijab is forced on female muslims, like spewing the usual tripe that islam had nothing to do with Jihadists killing people.

Wake up people, their coming to a neighbourhood near you and their wearing a c4 belt with your name on it,as much as I'd like to see them commit suicide,I don't like it when they take us with them. Holland better do something now or get used to submission according to sharia law and the Quran.

You nailed it good in your post ala. I'm coming to the conclusion that a majority of my fellow countrymen are turning a blind eye to the dangers of the spread of radical Islam. As terrible as the event of 9-11 was, to many it is a distant fog in their memory. Although much of the success in Bush's re-election was the security issue, I sense an auora of a sense of false security here in the states. With the coming of Christmas our shopping malls will be packed with people and there will be no defense against any number of psycho's exploding themselves in the crowds of shoppers. I shudder to think of the effects on the country's psyche should a coordinated attack occur in several locations simultaneously. The fact that we haven't been hit here since 9-11 doesn't mean we aren't in their crosshairs. We are still sitting ducks.

You Europeans look at America as stupid. Maybe so, but you are losing your own countries, so screw you.

I understand European tolerance, but I also understand European sneering. It will come back and bite you in the ass

Islam has gotten such a foothold in Europe. We will see how friendly the ' Friendly Dutch' are in the future.

I wish the best for Europe. However, you always sneer at my country ( United States). We will fight extremism in all forms and maybe someday there will be peace, but not now.

One must be strong to fight crazy people. You are a great man to come up with this web site,
'JIHAD WATCH'. You care America when other people hate it. America is not perfect

Sorry for the bad English, " you care for America'

Juicealot,
What drugs have you taken???

It's really astonishing how naive you all are. The killing of Theo van Gogh was not an act of terrorism. Neither had it anything to do with the muslim-faith. It was a one man action against a person who had no respect at all for persons, institutions or believes. Example: van Gogh stated that all muslims were goatfuckers. Ofcourse this is no justification for murder. Nothing is.

The muslim-faith is based on truth, love for mankind and justice. 99,8 percent of all muslims live by these rules.
Your comments and generalisations do them no justice. Your judgement is based on fear. Please don't fear. Seek out the truth.... .
