Al-Jazeera: "All Intifada, All the Time"

Ariel Cohen on Al-Jazeera at Tech Central Station:

While the West is basking in the tunes of Christmas carols, a different tune is being played by the two leading Jihadi TV channels, al Jazeera and al Manar. The radical Sunni al Jazeera, broadcasting from Qatar, the flagship of anti-Western Islamist propaganda, is funded and tolerated by the Qatari royal family, reportedly to the tune of $30 million a year. It has become the main conduit of Al Qaeda tapes to the Arab and Muslim world, suggesting an exclusive arrangement with the elusive jihadi leaders Usama bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri.

Al Manar, a Shi'i satellite and cable operation out of Lebanon, belongs to Hizballah and funded by the Islamic Republic of Iran to the tune of $15 million a year, and is even more anti-American in its pitch. Both channels are available world wide, including the US, via satellite. Canadian cable operators are now offering al Jazeera and al Manar via easily obtained and cheap subscriptions.

Robert Spencer, Director of the NGO Jihad Watch says that al Jazeera provides foreign-based terrorists with a source of news, encouragement and instruction. It serves radical Muslims as a useful recruiting tool. For jihadist recruiters, al Jazeera is like an electronic madrassa beaming the teachings and perspective of radical Islam into the living rooms of Muslims around the world twenty four hours a day, Spencer says.

Nor is Al-Jazeera the only one. Websites doing similar work abound.

*blink* Now, I could have sworn that Qatar is a friend of the US.... I mean, moreso than Saudi Arabia. I think when they wrote 'The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing,' they got it wrong with islam. These royals know exactly what they are doing- their people sure as hell don't.

What are we doing to counter this Islamic propaganda machine?

Where is Jihad Watch 24 News channel featuring education on Qu'ran and Jihad etc?

CNN is not going to cut it, neither is the BBC. Larry King keeps schmoozing himself through lard and PC, America needs more Scott Petersons, OJ's, Clintons and Kobe Bryant'slike a wart on the nose!!

Snoozing helps to keep the bloodpressure down.

Who cares about Islam? After all isn't that just another 'peaceful religion??!!

Isn't there any phenomenon called 'an overdose of islam'.

I'm led to believe many youngsters in Iran are fed up with mullah rule and acutely feel this phenomenon. Any psychos care to investigate?

This tactic is used to promote the islamic agenda worldwide as well as communicate to SLEEPER cells their coded messages.

Where is their Fair and Balanced news:-)at?

Let me ask everyone here a question;

Do you view the American Media Outlets in general as providing fair and balanced agendas or do they tend to sway the people with accounts related to us as seen in their view?

How many outlets do we have compared to middle-east? It is my understanding that 3/4 of the population does not even have electricity how could they even have a choice.

Maybe we should equip every household with a plazma tv and pump in tons of excitement and joy.

SATYMEVA JAYATE

[Voletti]"I'm led to believe many youngsters in Iran are fed up with mullah rule and acutely feel this phenomenon. Any psychos care to investigate?"

The whole iranian nation is fed up with Mollas. Iran will soon end up a secular nation just like France after the French revolution.

[Chuck]"How many outlets do we have compared to middle-east? It is my understanding that 3/4 of the population does not even have electricity how could they even have a choice."

I don't know where did you get that statistics, but it is probably half a century old.

al Jazeera does have some great kid shows in the morning. There is a Barney type show, but he is wearing a 50lb belt of c4 explosives. All of the kids have their own little 5lb belts, and they dance the morning away

...the flagship of anti-Western Islamist propaganda, is funded and tolerated by the Qatari royal family, reportedly to the tune of $30 million a year.

...the Islamic Republic of Iran to the tune of $15 million a year.

The Superbowl ad revenues will generate over $150 million. This Tv sports show will make more money in 4 hours than these Islamic chumps will donate in 4 years. Pathetic.

You want some real spending. The US spent $80 Billion so far in Iraq alone and has been approved to spend another $87 Billion. These Islamic punks don't spend any money and when they do it's always for something bad.

This low budget tv station, al-jazerra is one-sided. Do they ever report the Billions and Billions of dollars the US gives to Islamic countries? Do they ever report any positive things the US does to help? Surely muslims that watch this station know that it's all propaganda.

The same Islamic groups in Canada demanding
Shariah-Law for Muslim females in Canada are
also fighting to have Al-Jazeera-Arabic on
pay-Tv channels for Canadian carriers.

There's a pattern her folks, the attack on Jews and support for Jihad by those Moderate "True" islamic groups is so overt they must really be stupid to think we can't see through their cheap ruse.

A significant thing that i can remember about Al Jazeera,is that it was wellcomed to the Democratic Party National Convention,in other words,it had the nod of aproval from our left politicians....

Four Things Around and About Al-Jazeera:

1) The poster above, imagining a Barney-like character dancing about with an explosives belt, is not far wrong. A "Palestinian" children's show -- possibly called "The Children's Hour" -- is available on tape in this country, and it shows some cute little kids singing their songs about how "I Want to be A Suicide Bomber" (shahid), as the teacher beams at her charges.

2) Qatar -- the kid-gloves treatment of Qatar, based on the smiles of the al-Thani ruler (what is he called now? Prince? King? Like the man whom the British used to call "The Ruler of Bahrain" who then promoted himself to Prince and then just recently to king, much to the amusement of J. B. Kelly and others who had spent time in the Gulf, these sheiks of petty sheikdoms like to give themselves grand titles), and the good looks, and supposed "feminist" credentials, of his "progressive" wife (in those circles, it doesn't take much to be a far-sighed progressive -- why, appearing hijabless or having a job, or even driving a car will do the trick). Oh, the rich fantasy life of American diplomats and policymakers, and of course the world press, whether in their Lawrence-of-Arabia swoon (Lowell Thomas), or their “eternal verities of the wide Arabian sky and desert” swoon (Freya Stark) or in their can’t-stand-that-little-Jewish-Sparta-or-its-supporters so the Arabs-and-Muslims-and-especially-the-“Palestinians” –must-be-promoted-on-every-occasion swoon (Peter Jennings, John Simpson, Edward Mortimer) – take your pick.

Qatar needs America, America does not need Qatar. Qatar must stop subsidizing al-Jazeera, and while it is at it, it should be asked to send the influential and sinister Qaradawi packing. To Egypt, or Saudi Arabia. If he’s truly interested in what is Halal and what is Haram, Saudi Arabia’s the only place for him. And what beaches.

3) Al-Jazeera needs to be shut down or at least treated as, during the Cold War, one would treat Pravda and Tass, or during World War II, Der Beobachter Zeitung, and Der Stuermer, and Radio Berlin (Lord Haw Haw included) and Radio Tokyo (Tokyo Rose included). This requires thought. Shooting down the satellite that makes it possible? Interfering with transmissions? Are these technically possible, or not? No one need announce it is being done. It will "just happen." Too bad.

If such is not possible, then those who are now receiving Al-Jazeera, and therefore believe in its worldview which clearly threatens the lives and property and wellbeing and way of life of all Infidels, beginning but hardly ending with Americans and Israelis, it should not be permitted anywhere in the Bilad al-Kufr, the Lands of the Infidels. Pressure can be brought to bear on cable companies and satellite channel networks. Those who offer Al-Jazeera or Al-Manar as part of their "packages" to consumers may find that they are the sudden objects of boycott -- and that boycott should be relentless and endless. The other day there was a posting here about "Erie Cablesystems" in northern Ohio and southern Michigan, all set to offer "Bridges TV" which is a Muslim channel, designed to offer the "kindler, gentler" view (all family values and Ramadan observances, of course -- and perhaps a Karen-Armstrong potted biography of the "man who brought peace to the Arabian peninsula" and "improved the treatment of women and minorities" -- none other than Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets. Better living through boycotts -- if moral and intellectual appeals fail, withholding one's custom -- as in the case of Columbia and Georgetown, cutting off donations and making clear that everyone will suffer unless the Middle Eastern apologists are reigned in, or forced to leave, or in the case of Esposito, simply have their institutional connection severed (Esposito is well-supported by Arab interests and can survive without Georgetown, but Georgetown suffers greatly from its now-embarrassing connection to Esposito and Co.).

4) Al-Jazeera's programs have led directly to attacks on American soldiers and an increase in American deaths. Yet there are those who, as a recent movie made by an Egyptian-American sympathizer shows, Al-Jazeera's staff includes people who complacently assume, a bit too readily, that they can send their children to the United States for an education. That assumption must come to an end. Those who work for Al-Jazeera should understand that when they do so, their hope of living in the West, sending their children to be educated and live in the West -- which they realize, of course, is vastly superior to the world of Islam, even if they are doing their damnedest to destroy that same West and reinforce the power of the Jihad and of the Muslims. No, that mixture as before will not do.

And now here is a reposting (for the second time) which is not a blast from the recent past, not an oldie-but-goodie brought back for sentimental reasons, but because the points it made some months ago still stand:

“A recent article (April 2) by A. O. Scott in the New York Times, about a soi-disant documentary devoted to Al-Jazeera, writes sympathetically of a "balding, rumpled" Saleem Khader. And Mr. Khader, who is presented as a man of some complexity -- the evidence adduced for this implausible idea, given that he works not for a news organization, even a bad one, but for a propaganda network that is not a bit better than anything the Nazis produced, and is responsible for the deaths of many American soldiers, and civilians -- is that he berates another Al-Jazeera employee for carrying an interview with an American anti-war activist, berates him because the interviewee is, as Sameer Khader has it, unrepresentative. Great.
But the important part of the tale is this: Khadeer lets Ms. Noujaim (yes, the "Harvard-educated" Egyptian-born Ms. Noujaim -- the Ivy League touch is de rigueur here; shows she's one of us, inhabits the same intellectual climate, and so on) know that he, Sameer Khader, a collaborator of al-Jazeera, and hence a collaborator in an instrument of Jihad that has been directly responsible for American deaths (ask General Kimmitt, or Sanchez, or Abizaid, or any of the soldiers now in Iraq) complacently tells her that he is going to send his own children to university in the United States, so that they can taste the "American dream" and avoid the "Arab nightmare" (the very nightmare which he is helping to prolong).
Not so fast, buster. It would be absolutely outrageous to allow this man, who has participated in such an organization, to assume that when it comes time for him to arrange his children’s future, the little matter of his participation in a sinister organization like Al-Jazeera will not weigh heavily against him. If he, and all the other Muslim Arabs who think they can act and write as they do, whipping up hatred, and trafficking in lies (even if some of them are slightly less enthusiastic about it, or do it only 90% of the time, not 100%), and then go off to the West as a combination funhouse-and-brothel, and get medical care in Boston or the Mayo Clinic, and send their children to American or other Western universities -- well, it's time to put paid to that assumption. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that would get their attention more, and modify future behavior more, than condemning their own children to the prison of their own awful countries and societies. Yes, of course one can argue that, in the first place, the "sins of the fathers..." But there is no right to be allowed in to the United States, much less to be given a student visa. It is a way, an effective way that does not require the risking of American lives, and that will help save American lives, if those involved in such enterprises realize that they cannot visit the United States, cannot have their children take full advantage of what they, in their schizophrenia, secretly recognize to be superior to the dar al-Islam which they are doing their utmost, willy-nilly, to expand. And to the argument that one way to get people to change is "to let them experience the United States for themselves." Nonsense. Plenty of Arabs have experienced the United States, and are living here as immigrants right now -- and their experience has not changed one whit their attitude of hostility and menace.
By starting to deny the great privilege of living, even for a short period, in the United States, or the other countries of the advanced West, to the relatives of those implicated in the propaganda war, this will eventually have an enormous effect on the behavior and on the career choices, of those who in the future may be considering working for Al-Jazeera and similar organs of hate, hysteria, and lies. They will have to think twice, before putting their talents to work for the Jihad, spouting antisemitic and anti-American propaganda. There will be consequences--their children are going to have to remain, and live, in the world that they are helping to create. They will not be allowed, themselves, the escape-hatch of the West. That itself should cause them to behave a bit more responsibly, when their own children's future is at stake.
If they have talent, so much the worse for them, that they lent that talent to evil. Goebbels was extremely talented; was Leni Reifenstahl; so were a host of others who worked for the Nazis, or for the late Joseph Stalin.
Write your Congressmen. Call your local government officials. Do what you can. Make a fuss. If you are related to a soldier, use that fact. No one likes to make an enemy out of the families of soldiers, especially the Reserves and the National Guard. Al-Jazeera has American blood on its hands. It is akin to Nazi propaganda. It should not be shown in this country. But at the very least, political figures should make sure that no close relative of anyone working for Al-Jazeera ever gets an entry visa. And if any Republicans balk, do not hesitate to go to Democrats – and to point out the virtue of taking a strong position on Islam That will be one more useful anti-Jihad measure that costs nothing, and risks no American lives.
End of reprint.
In sum, no one associated with Al-Jazeera, nor family members, should be allowed into the United States, or for that matter into any Western country that still wants to be considered a member of the Western alliance -- or of NATO. Sanctions should be imposed on those states who help ease the way for those who work for a station that has American soldiers' blood -- and that of civilians, come to think of it -- all over its hands.
And as for the Al-Thani family that rules Qatar, the days of Colin Powell's mild reproofs, so easily deflected, are over.. The notion that Qatar, because the ruler’s wife is good-looking andinvolved in "women's issues" – this is the Queen-Noor business all over again – basta with this nonsense – or that the well-heeled smilers who recently arrived from Bahrain, or from any of the mini-statelets of the Persian Gulf, can be relied on to damp down on attacks on Infidels, is silly.
But those statelets worry about Muslim bullies – not merely Iran (for why should America care if Shi’a power is expanded – and Shi’ites are a majority in that very Bahrain, and they, along with the Shi’a in the Al-Hasa oil-bearing regions of Saudi Arabia, might worry about Sunni unpleasantness – particularly from the historic big bully of the area, Saudi Arariba, if through Iraq itself a Sunni-Shi’a fault-line becomes open warfare)stern consumption), or Bahrain, or any of the mini-statelets of the Persian (yes, Persian) Gulf, can be relied on is silly.”
Now, a short pause, and having quoted from an old posting, we resume below our regular programming, specially written for today’s broadcast:
It is absurd that Al-Jazeera and Al-Manar are permitted to continue their propaganda on behalf of the Jihad.
It is equally absurd that the American government chooses to waste money attempting to “win Arab friends” by beaming into their countries not lectures on the meaning of the First Amendment, nor on the ways in which personal autonomy and freedom of conscience are protected and encouraged, nor anything about the “free marketplace of ideas,” nor all those quotations from Jefferson and Lincoln and Mark Twain – that, for example, the young Jose Figueres said helped him to transform Costa Rica. Instead, we are sending them images of what? Muslim families leading Muslim lives (why should we pander to them, or make it seem as if we have to assure them that Muslims can live safely in the United States? If anything, we should be showing them our schools, our hospitals – and make clear that we believe we have nothing to apologize for, and that they must look to the tenets and attitudes and atmospherics of Islam (this need not be said, but programs artfully crafted can artfully suggest) to find the source of their desarroi and sub-development. No more transmissions Arabia-wards of Britney Spears, please. We are not trying to entertain, nor even to win friends. We are trying to offer information, and to provoke thought, not about us, but about their own societies. And that thought will, if it is real thought and not the usual nonsense, inevitably lead to the “reform” – i.e. the constraining – of Islamic practice. One might even have programs on Ataturk – who’s afraid of mentioning everything he did in the 1920s and 1930s – or on the late Ali Dashti of Iran, or on others who wrote penetratingly of Islam, or perhaps a program on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – yes, there are several possible programs right there. And if American-government sponsored channels don’t carry this stuff, they should be closed down, for they are then nothing more than a jobs program for Arabic speakers, and that is entirely unnecessary. It is particularly important that, for example, Maronites and Copts and Arabic-speaking Jews and ex-Muslims monitor this material, to make sure that taxpayers’ money is not going to people who, while purportedly working for the government, present material that undercuts it, or Infidels in general, or delivers a message that may be interpreted as appeasing or otherwise deliver the wrong message. The personnel at the top of these new channels should be examined to make sure taxpayers are not inadvertently supporting the wrong people, who may simply be outwardly plausible. But it takes an Arabic-speaker to pick up, or to properly “place” through a whole series of delicate hints, someone. Native Americans just can’t do it; they lack the right antennae. They are innocents abroad, and when it comes to Islam and Muslims, they are innocents at home as well. Nice when it’s a story by Mark Twain, not so great when American lives depend on wariness and low cunning and high intelligence.

Cross, you are not wrong but you forget one thing:

Al Jazeera is only funded with 30 million and some additional 15 mil from somwhere else. This does not at all diminish the effectivness of the Islamic prapaganda, as muslims the world over are slavishly devoted to this propaganda and easily manipulated and incited.

You are absolutely correct in pointing out that the superbowl makes 150 mill in one game, but ballgames are ONLY ballgames.

Their (muzzies) game is a much more than that: They want to wipe us out or subject us to dhimmis, and superbowl is just like Larry Kings trivia or CNN's shallow fare- meaningless compared with what's at stake.

We better get real and educate the people around us, just like Hugh say's: write letters to congressmen, demonstrate, be noisy and do as much as we can to raise awareness to expose this sinister agenda that threatens our way of life.

And Cross:

'Surely muzzies know that it's all propaganda, don't they know about the billions and billions the US spends for Islamic countries..."

Cross: They don't know! Nobody tells them and our silly government practices nothing but appeasement. We don't show them which way the wind blows. Read Hough's overwhelming essay above, just begin to undestand what we are up against.

After 9/11 some German 'intellectuals' openly denounced the letter by OBL given to Atta with instructions how to sharpen his knive, to remove all his body hair, how to cut the throats of the 'enemy', how the flight would not stop but continue right into the Islamic heavens where 72 vigins and 24 boys would be waiting for the never ending orgy... gagaga.. I'm sure you know about it! Why didn't M. Moore make a movie about that?

These lefty Germans (are there any other ones?) openly stated that it had to be a plot by the CIA or the MOSSAD, nobody else would be THAT stupid to believe such a crap... But there is a sobering up after the party, and in January I'll be back there! I'll be in Berlin and I'm pretty sure that there is a slight change in attitude....

Can't we (Brits and Americans) with all our technology and weaponary just blow the Al-Jazeera sattelite out of space?

Or isn't it as simple as that?

One of my Yemeni students moved home recently and hadn't got round to moving his sattelite dish off of his old house. His attitude was tangibly less militant whilst being seperated from his beloved Al-Jazeera, I can tell you.

"Fox NewsU Akhbar"

Hello everyone,

Some pretty interesting remarks, however if we ban al'jazeera than so much for free speech. If we ban al’jazeera than we should also ban all the other religious and secular hate based propaganda programs that are on cable or satellite. We should also shut down the US government’s Arabic language TV station, which is being beamed into the Middle East at a cost of $62 million for the first year, which comes out of my tax dollars. Interestingly one of the production houses that is currently producing programming for Muslim Iraq is Grace Digital Media as in “by the grace of God” which is a pro-Israel Christian fundamentalist owned operation. Anyway the $62 million that the US government is spending is peanuts compared to the various Christian fundamentalists broadcasters. CBN alone spends 100s of millions around the globe.

As for the Qatari “royal” family we have ourselves to blame for that along with the Brits, we created the country and then put them in power for our oil interests, which is the same thing that happened in Saudi Arabia. This is all about geo-global power politics and wealth. If we wanted to we could put an end to so-called “Islamic” terrorists if we wanted too. Someone mentioned, why don’t we just take out al’jazeera, for your info we did that in Afghanistan because they were broadcasting the killing innocent Afghans. By the way opium production is back in full swing in Afghanistan, can anyone tell me how this drug leave Afghanistan and arrives in the cities of the Western world, I sure as hell don’t think that it comes on horse back. Money, power and geo-politics.

Yes the Qatari royal family funds al’jazeera however it was set up by a bunch of Brits. Another interesting thing about al’jazeera is that earlier this year they fired a woman who was pro-Palestinian. As for al’jazeera’s programming, no it is not only news as we might be led to believe since that’s all that we get to see. I myself thought that al’jazeera was strictly this news agency that beamed hate news 24/7 until I actually saw it one day. Anyway if you think that we Westerners don’t like al’jazeera we are not alone, some of the “royal” families in the Middle East don’t like al’jazeera because they do stories that speak to issues like corruption.

So Hugh you would like to boycott cable/sat providers who offer al’jazeera and al’manar? What about the rest of the Arabic programming that is out there? You sound as bas as Hannity or O’Reilly (both on Fox News) who tell their viewers that we should boycott French products.

Hugh I’ve looked into Bridges TV, what’s the big deal? They have been trying to get off of the ground for some three years and still can’t even get to air beyond a few isolated areas. By the way did you even look at the previews for the programs that they are offering via broadband? I went and checked it out I was surprised we should welcome this as an alternative to Hamas TV or all of the violent programming that’s being pumped out to our kids every day Western style.

I do not welcome any channel that is an instrument of Muslim propaganda -- and there is nothing like Ramadan, and suchlike, to offer the "peaceful" plausible face of Islam. Let everyone watch Ernie and Bert. No Ramadan, no "we are all monotheists together," no "and here is the family-centered life of peaceful Muslims living the American dream." None of it. It is all directed at influencing the unwary Infidels. Wary Infidels do not approve.
