From Bulgaria's Novinite, with thanks to Anthony:
Thousands of supporters of Italy's Northern League party protested in Milan against the start of talks to accede Turkey to the European Union. The protestors warned against a "Muslim invasion" and demanded a referendum on the issue. The banners, that people carried, read "After the Chinese, now the Turks: businesses are at risk" and "Yes to Christian roots".
"Without our history we are dead, our history is not up for sale," Umberto Bossi, leader of the anti-immigration Northern League, who is recovering after a stroke, said in a statement from his sickbed.
Organizers say 50,000 people joined the rally.
Viva L'Italia!
Is there any provision for Italy and others to withdraw from the EU? Perhaps if enough people objected to Turkey's inclusion in the EU, the EU would shrink. . .
By the way, if you haven't already seen it, I urge you to see this:

It's a very chilling video on the production of future terrorists.
WE MUST HAVE REAL SOLUTIONS TO THIS REAL PROBLEM.

Moving to referendums on the matter of Turkey's admission to the EU seems to be a good idea - this will weed dhimmi governments out of the equation.
BTW-

This was great news when I first read it this morning. But then, the Italians did protest Berlusconi's decision to send Italians to Iraq and polls show most Italians didn't agree with that decision. What's Berlusconi's attitude been towards Turkey's admission into the EU? Do the protests help or hinder his position?
Mamma mia!
Go La'Italia Go!
From what I know, teh decision to get them folks 2 join has to be unanimous. In that sense every current member of the EU has a veto of sorts.
Damn, I'd be happier with Russia in the EU than Turkey!
Dunno who first said this but a beautiful quote goes:
"You may have the world if I may have Italy."
Call em biased but I'd say there is hope yet for Europe because there is Italy.
Could this be a Christmas present
from Italy to Oriana Fallaci?
Could this be? Oh please be!
