Paraiba do Sol will have one of the only statues of a terrorist in the Western world. From AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- The New Year's Eve celebrations in the small community of Paraiba do Sul will honor a figure the town's mayor says hasn't been honored anywhere else in the West - the late Yasser Arafat.Moments before the clock rings in 2005, a fireworks and light show will serve as a backdrop to the unveiling of a life-sized statue of the Palestinian leader holding the traditional symbol of peace, the olive branch.
The 5-foot, 7-inch bronze statue will be part of an open-air memorial that includes a marble map of Palestine and a replica of the Palestinian flag, also in marble, Paraiba do Sul Mayor Rogerio Onofre said.
"It is the first time a memorial in Arafat's honor has been built in the Western world," Onofre said.
Let's hope it's the last, but it probably won't be.
Arafats true memorial will be a massive pile of dead people who died needlessly due to his actions and inactions. Maybe that is what they should cast in bronze.
A pile of dead people will be Arafats pyramid.
Someone should put a panty-hat on it.
Paraibo do Sol, Brazil and Arafat? What's that about? What's the connection?
Honor shit? How can anyone honor shit?
Thank goodness the pigeons will have something to crap on.

Arafat in paradise, ha ha.

Next they will honor the bombers that "are fighting for their ideals." It appears that Onofre is a vicarious terrorist.
an open-air memorial that includes a marble map of Palestine...
Wanna bet that the map of "palestine" looks a lot like Israel?
Paraibo do Sol, Brazil and Arafat? What's that about? What's the connection?
Its amazing what a couple million dollars in "support" will do. Maybe they sent the mayor's kid to college, maybe they built a library. Maybe they got the mayor a mistress with a private little love nest. Maybe they got pictures of him doing something he ought not.
Just look at the "Middle Eastern Studies" departments at universities around the world. The liberals ain't to blame; it's the super-rich Saudis et al. that are spreading their loot around. They buy influence. It doesn't take much.
...5-foot, 7-inch bronze statue...
WTF? The real terrorist was about a foot shorter, wasn't he? Hope the sculptor was able to capture terror-boy's masculine, hairy, manly facial hair. LOL.
True Brit - - - thanx for telling me what OT stands for.
Now I have an OT (off topic) and OS (off subject)
Did anyone see where the Pope (thru the Vaticans paper) mean-mouthed Israel - saying Israel was refusing to help in Sri Lanka?
www.wnd.com only ran that item one or two days on their site. [whereas other non-interesting items are left posted week after week after....
Mew thinks the Pope needs a swift kick to the seat of the pants.

I'm looking forward to the 'new culture' of Brazil:
Burkha-samba, Hijab-samba and Chador-samba!
Are we to see the same pictures we are used to from the 'occupied territories':
"Martyr's" with balaclava shooting in the air screaming: "Kill the Jews. Death to America...?
On November 11th when Canada was paying tribute to the war-dead that served to give Muslims and palestinians the freedoms they have here in the west,a Palestinian Centre lowered the Canadian Flag to pay tribute to Arafat and did it in defiance of our Protocols for National heroes
or the death of a Canadian statesmen.
Now on November 11th for the rest of time Palestinians have Hijacked the war efforts that gave the freedom, and now exploit the date as "Arafat" day.
No doubt this will be another Islamophobia/Racism course to be forced on children in the Public School system. Oh how the lies and myths continue.
Yasir Arafat is a "statesman" only to a world enamored of lying. The Egyptian-born Arafat, who made his money in Kuwait, convinced the world that he was a Jerusalem-born "Palestinian", and created a supposed "nation" out of what were once "Arabs". He was allowed to pack his pistol inside the UN when he addressed it, and received a Nobel Peace Prize for launching a culture of death and destruction.
Demography will probably ultimately doom modern Israel, and Arafat's ghost will get a river-to-sea Falastin. But my guess is that it will be piss-poor, a terrorist haven, perpetually blaming all and sundry for its manifold woes, and exporting its best people when the survivors of the destruction of Israel are productive, useful, and integrated citizens of their respective countries.
A whole 'culture' based on lies, deceit, falsehood and murder.
I have a question regarding statues . . .aren't they against Islam?
I realize that Saddam was quite enamored with his image in Iraq, but few would accuse him of being devout.
Hugh often refers to the taliban's destruction of the Bamiyan buddahs to raise concern for the safety of 'western' art.
What is the issue regarding statues in Islam?
