So what? Are the islamic terrorists supposed to be thanked now for their profound kindness for not cutting off the reporters heads? Are we supposed to acknowledge French leaders as being intelligent diplomats?

The terrorists should still be brought to justice on kidnapping charges which should put them in prison for life. Is France pursuing these terrorist kidnappers? Does France seek justice for the two reporters hellish ordeal of months in captivity by these criminals? No, look at the French officials, breathing a sigh of relief and saying something stupid like "what a wonderful gift". They should grow a spine and demand justice and go after those responsible or at least help support countries that do. So sad to see a once great country cowing down and being so timid. What a shame.

Would the dhimmitized French citizens care one way or another if these 2 reporters were killed. If they were killed, they would probably blame it on the US.

This is a no win for the French. The terrorists can always take more French hostages and will no doubt do so as soon as they want something from France. France will cave in and submit to whatever the terrorists demand.

The French are being manipulated and will pay later. Does anyone still vacation in France? They might as well just tour Pakistan on their next European vacation.

Today in the Canadian News a article reports that the Government in Ontario Canada are looking at allowing Sharia-Law for Female Muslims during Family disputes.

What we can learn from a ‘70s cult TV classic.

UFO, the ‘70s cult science-fiction TV classic produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (Captain Scarlett, The Thunderbirds) has just been issued in a boxed DVD set. Not having seen many of the episodes since they were first broadcast on U.S. television in the early 1970s, I have made certain to whisper this important fact to my wife in order to pass on to Santa Claus.
For those who recall the series only vaguely (or not at all), UFO was set in the early 1980s and followed the adventures of the men and women of SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization). Organized after it became apparent that Earth was being visited by space aliens whose purposes were unknown but definitely not friendly, SHADO was headquartered in a subterranean bunker located beneath a London film studio. A forward base had been established on the moon, from which interceptor spacecraft could be launched at incoming UFOs detected by satellites orbiting the Earth. To deal with alien craft that penetrated this first line of defense, SHADO could deploy an array of hardware that included a fleet of submarines equipped with an aircraft that could detach itself from the bow and streak through the ocean depths and into the sky. For alien craft that manage to land on Earth, tank-like land-based vehicles could be dispatched to the scene.
The show’s motivating question — If the Earth were under attack by a strange and hostile force that appears uninterested in compromise or peaceful negotiations, how exactly would humanity defend itself? — is one of the most plausible in the history of SciFi TV. It has exceptional resonance today, given its startling similarity to the current war on Islamist terrorism in which we find ourselves.
The central figure of UFO is SHADO’s chief, Commander Ed Straker, played by the extremely talented actor Ed Bishop, who never really got the kind of roles that would have enabled him to become a star. Straker is a career military officer who “connects the dots” between seemingly unrelated events and concludes that only aliens from outer space could be responsible. Putting his career on the line, he battles disbelief and tightfisted politicians to create SHADO, a process that consumes nearly ten years.
On the surface, it seems hard to understand why UFO did not succeed. (It lasted only a single season, 1970-71.) In addition to lots of cool gadgets and special effects, its timing seemed impeccable, having been released just as the world was being engulfed by a mania about UFOs and mysterious space visitors (Chariots of the Gods, the Bermuda Triangle, etc.). So why didn’t it find a larger audience?
Simply put, UFO was too realistic. SHADO knew next to nothing about the enemy it was fighting. Who the aliens were, where they were from, and what they wanted remained matters for speculation. Almost every bit of information SHADO managed to acquire about them seemed to lead to more questions than answers. Many of the stories featured downbeat, ambiguous endings. And every now and then, the aliens would thwart SHADO. The series was, dramatically speaking, unsatisfying to a mass audience.
Then there was the problem of Straker himself. To put it mildly, he did not suffer fools gladly, which made him one of the most unusual lead characters in television history. While he was capable of kicking back in his office with his sidekick, Alec Freeman (George Sewall), and while he could (very occasionally) crack a smile, Ed Straker was most of the time a tightly wound spring. His job was to kill (or, if possible, capture) the aliens before they could do harm to any human, and that was that.
In short, Straker was no Captain James T. Kirk, a heroic figure who managed to answer all the audience’s questions and tie up all the loose ends with a witty quip before the final credits. Rather, Straker had a serious edge to him. Under the pressure of his job, we see his marriage collapse. Faced with a captured alien who refuses to talk, he doesn’t hesitate to order that a dangerous, experimental drug be used to break down his resistance, an effort that ends in the alien’s death. He even orders the destruction of an alien space ship he knows is carrying his friend, a top SHADO officer, back to the aliens’ home planet. To Straker, individuals mean nothing. All that matters is stopping the aliens.
Ed Straker certainly would have been a frightening man to work for, which is probably why the mass of TV viewers found him a frightening man to watch. His kind of single-minded determination was in short supply in the 1970s, which may explain why the series appealed to people of a conservative sensibility.
In real life, however, we sure could use someone like Ed Straker for the new post of national intelligence director. Fiction is now fact: We are up against a ruthless, determined foe bent on doing us harm and about whom we know rather little. Porter Goss seems to be making a good start at the CIA, lopping off a few heads and shaking things up a bit, but its not clear that he is in Straker territory yet.
If a real-life Ed Straker is out there, now is his time.

For a long time I have been reading Jihad/Dhimmi Watch and never before have I seen so many with the same views as I regarding Muslims coming together in the same place.

I am not a good writer so I usually just read but I am becoming more and more curious about my fellow soul mates on the list.

I am a xxxxxxx, born and lived as protestant, and come from a family consisting mostly of civil servants and military men since the time begun. As a curiosity I can mention one of the family members, Oscar, fought under general Sherman during the American civil war and ended as brigadier and commander of the 17th Army Engineers. They called him ?The Brave Devil?.

I live in a small town in xxxxxx called xxxxxxxx, which is about 100 miles from xxxxxxxx. Besides my military experiences (I have seen Congo, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia first hand) I have degrees in economics and both construction and electronics engineering. Waiting for my pension (I am 63 years old) I am now working as a xxxxxxx.

My experience with Muslims is first hand. I married a girl from Kosovo for about 10 years ago and I am therefore the proud father of a 9-year-old boy.

As a convert my wife got hell from the family but they lived so far away that they did not became a threat. But the Muslims even in this small town reacted with hostility. I, as the Satan that has led one of their faiths astray, was threatened with everything up to murder and that still continues.

The Police asked me to return when something has really happened and some days after my first complaint I was called up by the xxxxxx (the xxxxxx equivalent to FBI) who asked if I could provoke a little extra as one was suspected to be the one who had sent a letter bomb killing a woman in xxxxxxx earlier that year.

So the last 10 years I have constantly been looking over my shoulder and open my mail with extreme care, as it never ceased. The pressure on my wife was too much so our marriage broke. She will however never go back to Islam and nowadays she calls herself Buddhist.

I was not the one who declared war on the Islamists; it was the other way around. But I am prepared to fight them with all means; with word or with weapon in hand, they chose the means.

In xxxxxxx there is a distinction between the dhimmi government and the people. The government has not yet understood what the people understood many years ago that Islam is a threat to us all. xxxxxx in general are slow to react but when the reaction comes they will be unstoppable. Ever heard of the Vikings?

In sum up, if the terrorist act was islamic and was for the iraq war, why now there are islamic detainned if Spain was out of Iraq, it doesn´t have any sense.

The thing is, Franze, Aznar and Co kept saying that it was ETA even after it was very clear from the intelligence services that it was definitely not ETA. He lied in order to avoid having this appear as a repercussion for Spain's prominent role in the Iraqi invading forces and this was why he lost so prominently. Especially because the Iraq war was already extremely unpopular amongst the Spanish people.

And as for suspected terrorists still being arrested. These mostly seem to be the people alleged to be involved in the 3/11 attacks as well as those planning attacks in Morocco.

The upshot is that there seems to be no imminent threat of attack in Spain now that they have withdrawn from the Iraqi occupying force. Though perhaps, Spanish troops as part of the ISAF force in Afghanistan might become a motive for future attacks.

Last week I talked about the murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a radical Islamist… and the lack of outcry it occasioned here in the US. Of course, reactions in Europe and especially in Holland have been much different.
The atrocity has forced one of the greatest taboos in Europe out of dark discussions around the beer table at the back of the pub and into the spotlight of public discussion. That is, the question of how to assimilate millions of mostly Muslim immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East into largely post-Christian, more or less tolerant Western European society.
The reason this has been a taboo is that up to and even following the events of 9/11 in the US, the prevailing opinion in Europe was that “it can’t happen here.” European officials have spent decades cozying up to anti-democratic régimes like those in Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria to protect their oil supplies. It was left to clearly racist and nationalist demagogues like Jean-Marie Le Pen in France and Gerhard Frey in Germany to raise issues that should have been discussed in the broader democratic forum. Instead, a comfortable myth was promulgated, that of the multicultural European paradise where everybody would just get along.

Trouble is, no one troubled to answer the age-old question: How do you deal tolerantly with people who would use your tolerance to put an end to tolerance? What to do with Islamist preachers like Britain’s own Abu Hamza al-Masri, the one-eyed, hooked-handed veteran of Afghanistan who now sits in an English jail on charges of incitement to murder? While he awaits trial, he and his family take advantage of roughly £1,200 (US$2,334) in welfare payments per week. And the British taxpayer just shelled out an extra £5,000 for a new hook for his missing hand. This for a man who has been quoted as saying, 'One day the black flag of Islam will be flying over Downing Street.'

Abu Hamza was born in Egypt, but later acquired British citizenship. Well and good. But is there not at least an unwritten contract between a voluntary citizen and his new country that would make it unacceptable to work for the demise of the latter’s social order? And if there is, shouldn’t there be a way to send those who break that trust swiftly back to whatever land they came from?

Such questions as these used to be left to the skinheads and their nationalist puppeteers, people whose motivation is not the good of the country so much as their own struggle for power, using visceral, atavistic racism as a means to that end.

But Islam, not to mention radical Islamist doctrine, is not a race. Being “Islamophobic” (as I and most others who dare to raise such questions have sooner or later found ourselves labeled) does not mean one hates brown people, or people of any other color, for that matter. If it means anything, it is simply to question the ideology behind movements that are already here among us, targeting for death those who disagree with them. Like Theo van Gogh.

Now, the question of ensuring that our tolerance does not work its own destruction by overlooking those who have no tolerance for us has been pulled out of the dank cellars of the Front National into the light of day, where Europe will have to deal with it one way or the other - or face far worse problems in the not-too-distant future.

 I say don't listen to shiva, Catherine, and just keep doing what you do.  If Shiva doesn't like the Qur'an quotes then let shiva ignore them.

 Look shiva if you don't want to read what Catherine has to say then don't read it. Just don't go around telling people with "a high opinion" what to do like the "clerics and imams". This site does not operate under Shari'ah.  People are free to post as they like.

 You may not like what she post here but I do and so do many others. In fact me and others have asked her to post "freaking Koran" verse and other materials and this is one of the reasons why she is doing this.

 I have read the Qur'an and have come across many of the Hadith quotes as well but I still enjoy reading them again and be reminded of them. Also this is a great help to those who might be new to this place, as you yourself acknowledged.  It is also a good referencing practice to bring up the relevant quotes straight out the source when discussing something.

 I say don't listen to shiva, Catherine, and just keep doing what you do.  If Shiva doesn't like the Qur'an quotes then let shiva ignore them.

 Look shiva if you don't want to read what Catherine has to say then don't read it. Just don't go around telling people with "a high opinion" what to do like the "clerics and imams". This site does not operate under Shari'ah.  People are free to post as they like.

 You may not like what she post here but I do and so do many others. In fact me and others have asked her to post "freaking Koran" verse and other materials and this is one of the reasons why she is doing this.

 I have read the Qur'an and have come across many of the Hadith quotes as well but I still enjoy reading them again and be reminded of them. Also this is a great help to those who might be new to this place, as you yourself acknowledged.  It is also a good referencing practice to bring up the relevant quotes straight out the source when discussing something.
