Three guesses as to which one. From Broadcasting & Cable, with thanks to Twostellas:
Fox is under fire from at least one group for scenes in the Jan. 9 debut of drama 24 that portray a Muslim teen-ager and his parents as members of a terrorist cell plotting a mass attack on Americans.
Yes, I can see why they would be upset. That sort of thing never happens.
On[e] of the villains is a Walkman-toting, bubble-gum-chewing teenager who fights with his conservative Dad about dating an American girl and talking on the phone. The young man also helps his parents mastermind a plot to kill large numbers of Americans that begins with an attack on a train.
Over the breakfast table, the father tells his son: “What we will accomplish today will change the world. We are fortunate that that our family has been chosen to do this.“Yes, father,” his son replies.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights and advocacy group, plans to bring their concerns about the episode to Fox, says group spokeswoman Rabiah Ahmed.
That group has previously received complaints about the depiction of Muslims on 24, but this episode is particularly egregious, she said.
“They are taking everyday American Muslim families and making them suspects. They’re making it seem like families are co-conspirators in this terrorist plot." In another scene, she says, a terrorist is shown coming out of a mosque. The way the episode depicts Muslims creates an atmosphere in which many Americans look at all Muslims as suspects in the war on terror, she adds. “It’s very dangerous and very disturbing.”
I don't think you hear any group complain like this when they're portrayed as the 'bad guy' in entertainment. Lots of Russians have been portrayed as pretty dastardly types. Chinese. Japanese. Italians as Mafioso. Germans. South Africans, in that movie recently that was supposed to actually have Muslim terrorists but they backed down and instead decided to stick it to the South Afrikaaners. No complaints from them. But lots of complaints from the you-know-who's.
Imagine having a show about recent terrorists and not having them be those Appalachian snake charmers! Everybody knows they're real weirdos. Of course the next step from bothering snakes is to blow up things and kill masses of people. Not Islam. No, nothing there to cause that. (rolling my eyes)
"In another scene, she says, a terrorist is shown coming out of a mosque. The way the episode depicts Muslims creates an atmosphere in which many Americans look at all Muslims as suspects in the war on terror, she adds. 'It’s very dangerous and very disturbing.'”
For this disingenuous CAIR spokeswoman's edification: Just who does she think the misnamed War on Terror is against? Presbyterian nuns using homicide bombings as a religious tactic? Buddhists flying airplanes into office buildings? If I've learned anything in the last three years, it is that there is a logical disconnect between the truth of a particular situation and a muslim view of the truth of a particular situation. And the two views never, ever coincide. Clash of Civilizations? Clash of the Dar ul-Harb Civilizations Against the Islamic Thick-Headed Brick Wall 'Death to the Infidel' Belief System is more like it. As for '24' showing muslims as terrorists inside the United States, who woulda thunk it? Such a vivid imagination those writers must have, making up stories so far-fetched as to be impossibly ludicrous. Right?
The victim attitude comes from Muslims` because the evidence of this militant activity within America is clearly contemporary and they know it. The tenants of Islam are all out there for the world to read. Among hundreds of others, I never hear Muslims denouncing Quran 9:29 when they want to complain about how they are depicted. So called human rights groups like CAIR need to stand up and denounce the militant tenants of the Quran, but they won`t.
Like the devil, terrorists don't appear with horns and a tail! They must look ordinary to be effective.
The premise that ordinary-looking families could be hatching plots has been used in dramas depicting non-Muslims for years. Muslims use the kitman strategy of victimization as one way to soften up the public, knowing that racism and bigotry are catch words that push the buttons of multiculturalists and those who have vowed to demonstrate their hyper-tolerance for diversity.
Fox's 24 Angers Muslim Group - really?
Well, FOX's 24 hour news coverage, or for that matter . . .general media coverage of ACTUAL real life examples of Islamic doctrine brings my blood to boil too. Islam ANGERS ME!
CAIR can take their perceived 'insults' and stick them where the sun doesn't shine.
More please. I'd rather have CAIR wasting its precious Saudi funding on suing InfidelTV rather than pestering DHS.
“They are taking everyday American Muslim families and making them suspects. They’re making it seem like families are co-conspirators in this terrorist plot." And IT'S THE TRUTH!
We should all write FOX and give them our support. They cannot bow down to this attempt to stifle not only the truth but freedom of expression. If they can broadcast all types of disgusting reality shows, 24 can continue. It's got to be one of the best, apropos shows on television!
For such a peaceful religion, they sure do anger quickly.
Yea, Fox! What a great step in the right direction! First, there was that "testing of the waters" with the short series on how Muslims were making themselves unwelcome wherever they went outside there own hellholes, and now Fox, in decided contrast with previous shows, is actually showing (gasp!) MUSLIMS as the troublemakers!
Before, it was always someone from Eastern Europe or something.
Is it possible. . .maybe. . .that a few in the media are daring to shrug off just a tiny bit of PC? Maybe one of these days someone will have the courage to make a full-length action movie accurately portraying the life and times of the Perfect Man. . .
Like Rupert Murdoch gives a sh*t.
Here's a list of upcoming legislation that CAIR is targeting:
http://www.cair-net.org/default.asp?Page=issuesAndLegislations
I'm sure Jack Bauer of the L.A. CTU (played by the redoubtable Kiefer Sutherland) is going to be SOOOO upset when he hears this.
Great show, though uncomfortably close to reality. The storyline about jihadis running around L.A. with a suitcase bomb was almost too hard to watch.
Meanwhile, CAIR can take a flying leap at the Kaaba for all I care.
Mike - that link you provided is also useful to see how local reps voted on legislation disputed by CAIR. All you need to do is insert a local zip code.
There is a key at the bottom of the result page indicating CAIR may "score" each outcome either as favorable /or not (to CAIRS interests).
I almost want to thank them for making so easy to keep tabs on my local reps.
Well Boo Hoo! These wingnuts at CAIR are so bloody predictable. Just ask Daniel Pipes what he thinks of them. These scoundrels use our laws and the useful idiots of the Left to destroy free expression. BTW CAIR, which planet are you living on? Surely not planet earth. On my planet where I live, most of the aggression and the spilling of innocent blood is done by muslims to their fellow 'brothers' of Dar ul-Islam. No way FOX should be intimidated by these guys. Remind them of the history of the past 3 years and that should shut them up. No doubt the maxim "Don't confuse us with the facts, our minds are already made up", will carry some weight with the multi-culti's but not everyone is fooled. GO FOX GO!!
Hold on a minute, maybe I missed something. Seems to me that there has been a bunch on the left who for years have been claiming that fictitious tv programs do not have any influence on anyones thinking. Damn, what a concept, that any non Muslim would actually think that a Muslim would strap on a bomb and go blow up a lot of innocent men women and children in the name of Islam. And this, all because they watched a fictitious account of such an event.Naw,go on.What non Muslim would think anything like that from any peace loving Muslim.
Attention: Ibrahim Hooper (CAIR weasel)
Over the next fews days you may receive a letter from me,inside will be a .25 cent coin
for you to use so you can phone "SOMEONE THAT GIVES A SHIT" since I don't.
In fact,go to a pay-phone,insert the coin, and punch any 7 numbers and I'll guarantee you that whoever answers will care far more than I ever
will.
The jigs up Hooper,we have known for a long time now that your favourate "Whine" is Islamophobia and Racism,Whine all you want,if you hate America so much then maybe it's time to move to one of those democratic Islamic Nations.
As long as they are angry, irritated , whining whinching and complaining we are winning!
As long as we keep the heat on 'em we are winning!
They should be afraid, very afraid, for they are scum and we don't want them, we don't need them and we don't need to make it any easier for them...
All everyday American Muslim families should be suspects. A terrorist coming out of a mosque is nothing unexpected--by us. That many Americans look at all Muslims as suspects in the war on terror is an excellent beginning. It should be very dangerous and very disturbing for all Muslims in this country. So far, it has been dangerous and most disturbing for all of us non-Muslims in the US. Time the tide turns and Muslims start to get what they have been asking for: distrust, suspicion of being involved in anti-American activities, and being branded as a foreign enemy in our midst.
Not long ago, I read an article where some muslims were putting together a rally to denounce terrorism. 43 muslims showed up. I was not impressed. These folks invite their own demise. Americans will remain suspicious of muslims as long as the muslims remain silent when it comes to denouncing terrorism. Terrorism is inspired and condoned by the koran, and us "infidels" are taking the time to look into this cult and making efforts to expose it for what it is. Get over it muslims... you're being "outed".
As someone who has not watched network TV since they added the gay subplot to "Homicide: Life On The Streets" a few years back, I am stunned that a network would even think about being so un-PC as to get anywhere near telling the truth about jihad (i.e. most of the jihadis somehow seem to be muslims)! Hats off to "24". I have seen commercials for it on Fox News Channel. Who knows? I might actually check it out!
Wow! Can I just say that each and every single one of you who has posted a comment is extremely ignorant. I find it hard to believe that there are such idiots that live in this world today. I feel bad for all of you because it sucks to be as ignorant and stupid as you guys.
CAIR and CAIRCAN named in $1,000,000,000,000 lawsuit filed Dec 30 in N.Y. as being complicite in 9/11 [pages 37-39].......
Thing are looking up for the U.S.A and Canada !!
