Now here's a refreshing bit of anti-dhimmitude. From AFP, with thanks to Anthony:
BRUSSELS, Dec 13 (AFP) - France wants Turkey to acknowledge the World War One massacre of Armenians during negotiations on its membership of the European Union, Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said Monday."It is a request that France will make, to recognise the tragedy from the start of the century .... Turkey must carry out this task as a memorial," he told reporters after talks with his EU counterparts in Brussels.
France's Armenian community has vowed to press President Jacques Chirac to prevent negotiations on Turkish membership of the European Union until Turkey acknowledged responsibility for the massacre.
What can I say but 'wow'?
Its indeed a sadrefloection of the times that stuff this basic, stuff that human decency and moral responsibility are made of are touted as major concessions if wrested from muzzies.
Shame on turkey!
Hahaha!!
Don't hold your breath!
But that is a good one! But it is a 'request' by France, it is not a DEMAND - which it should be.
Lets see where this is going.
Shalom!
Bravo France
I wonder where this is going. In Bat Yeor's "Decline of Eastern Christianity" she has an article from the Encyclopedia of the time, saying that the Germans were the main helpers in the 1894 genocide, and that the Turks promised everyone that only 500,000 of the 2 mill. would be left alive after they were done. The Germans were willing helpers.
Anyway, France doesn't know what it is doing, since they refused to help Iraqis, all because of oil (they were getting 23% of Iraq's oil, and selling state USA secrets to Saddam, prob. for that oil). Now they seem to be the "good guys" when it comes to Turkey, but lest we forget, they made alliances many times with Ottomans to stab the rest of Europe in the back, and to make a joint Empire with the Turks, even back in the 16th cent. This is why there was a Holy League to stop them. Looks like we need another.
Memo to Ankara: a dignified discussion of the past, which focuses -- correctly -- not on Turkish responsiblity for murdering Armenians, but on Muslim responsiblity (Muslim Turks, Muslim Kurds, Muslim Arabs in the Syrian desert) for killing Christians, a nostra culpa which inculpates religion, and simultaneously points to the constraints on religion that Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) put into place -- so that "that kind of fanaticism" is no longer possible (not true, but say it anyway). How's that for a possiblity?
Addendum to memo to Ankara re France: don't take the easy way out and think that you can merely blame the "Armenian lobby" in France, Aznavour et al. That won't do. Not now. Not with the E.U. application, and all those people in Iran adn the Arab countries giving Islam such an bad name. So you'd better put the blame on a belief-system, and not on Turks qua Turks.
And speaking of Aznavour, whatever you do -- Don't Shoot the Piano Player.
And when the Turks have finally admitted to their massacres of the Armenian people in the early 1900s, they should THEN admit their guilt in having slaughtered tens of millions of GREEKS and return the former territories they stole from Greece for the Islamic Caliphate. Nothing else will ever suffice.
The world must never forget the horrors the Arab Muslims inflicted upon Greece (notoriously Smyrna) and Asia Minor!
Thank you France- (Now, that's a switch). Keep up the good work.
Here is what Turkey denies ever happened:
