German police have raided more than 30 sites believed to be connected to a banned Islamic organisation, al-Aqsa. The raids happened a day after the country's top administrative court upheld a 2002 ban on the group.The German government alleges that the charity raises funds for the Palestinian militant movement, Hamas.
Al-Aqsa, which says it raises funds to alleviate poverty, had won permission to continue fundraising on a temporary basis last year.
The raids were conducted on 34 sites in Berlin, Bremen, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Interior Ministry says the police seized "extensive" materials.
The German Interior Minister, Otto Schily, said the raids had targeted sites connected with two groups suspected of taking over from al-Aqsa in 2002.
He said if the suspicions were confirmed, he would ban the new groups as well.
Bravo! Respect! Otto Schily is "evolving"- this is already much more then what his counterparts in other countries are doing. When will he have to go into hiding? When will he be attacked and assassinated?

The germans have always been a belicous people and after ww2 and the hollocaust,they have hung their heads in reluctant shame....the whole country is nearing boiling point temperature and they feel (not the socialist government and the media,though),they all feel like they have suppressed their anger for way too long;they hate the muslims,they want to kick them out without being acused of racism,they just wait for a good opportunity.
A muslim attack would provide such an opportunity,and then the long dormant teutonic fury will rise with increased power and strike islam like it has never been struck before.
Germans could be very mean,their revenge could be horrible and they could be very cold blooded,technical and calculated in their response to an eventual attack.

Why am I dubious?
Frankly, Profitsbeard, Although I now think the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have to be seen through, I winced when Pres. Bush took us into those countries. History gave us no right to expect Afghanistan to turn out as well as it did (ask the Brits and the Soviets). My guess is that just maybe the CIA was able to cash a few chips with the non-Taliban Afghans. As for Iraq, I expected us to rack up 1000 battle deaths (from enemy fire, accidents, etc.) a helluva lot sooner than 18 months. Also, having seen something of China's problems with Eastern Turkistan (one of the world's last colonies), and the intractable problem of Kashmir, I did not relish the USA taking responsibility for any predominantly Muslim region.
Frankly, I think that quietly rebuilding intelligence capacities, waiting for OBL and friends to get careless, then forcing their plane to land somewhere where they could be nabbed (as was done with the Achille Lauro hijackers) would have been a better tack.
Hence, I'm not too hard on Germany. Their reactions to Islamofascist activity on their own soil shows that they'll probably join the backlash soon enough.

We know that today's Germans are not the Nazis from way back when. We know that Germans have a soft spot when it comes to guilt and the word "Nazi".
We know about Germany's problem with islamic infiltration and we are all looking for another "Fuehrer" to help us out of this mess. (Tongue in cheek)

I do not have any problem in dealing with WWII and the Holocaust.
This is a guilt that can not be washed away and most of the Germans won't have any problems to discuss this either.
I fully agree with your critical view and remarks that you have made about Germany concerning the agenda.
Schröder-Shredder can be seen as a traitor and he is selling out his country and doing much harm in the case of preventing Turkey joining EU.
The Führers you seek are mainly members of the large conservative opposition.
Mr. Stoiber and Mrs.Merkel have written an open letter opposing the entry of Turkey to the Shredder- administration just a few days ago.
They speak out aginst this threat nearly every day in German newspapers, online- media etc.
Most of the German population is againt any deal with Turkey, but anyone who speaks up against this mess is sure to be declared a Nazi, a chauvinist, any politician who is concerned about the Islamic threat and speaking against holy warriors and Arab- Turkish invasions suffers the immideate loss of his/her charge.

I support the Germans in retaining their country.
What military support they have given the NATO alliance/U.N. security council's enforcement of resolutions in mopping-up operations during other conflicts, after the U.S. did the first hard dirty work, is commendable. I hope they do more.
I wish they would convince their hardcore Islamic minorities to return to their glorious homelands, and any who renounce the orthodox tyrannical dogmas of the Koran would then be encouraged to assimilate, learn Deutsch, and join the Civilization that is "Aiming for the Stars" (to quote the title of the autobiography of ex-de facto-Nazi scientist Werner Von Braun, who joined the West -in NASA's space program- after he renounced his slimy past).
But the majority of the German people (and Spanish, Italian, French, etc.) seem not to be able to see where Islamic fanaticism is leading, and that to battle it, even in such a murky locale as Iraq (thanks to the catastrophically bad intelligence of the CIA, etc.), is better than not opposing it anywhere. To demonstate our will, if not our 'intelligence'.
Afghanistan NEEDED to be taken out after 9/11 -as a Taliban-supporting-Bin Laden regime. And, to give an object lesson to all sympathizers with such despotic terror who are trying to spread the madness. (Pakistan's "father of the Islamic Bomb" etc.)
Iraq was less obviously a 'necesssary' military battle. And 'democrcay' there may only enable a Shi'ite theocratic tyranny to be 'legitimatly elected'- as nearly happened in Algeria. But, if WMD's were potentially going to 'leak' into the hands of 'global terrorism' (Islamic fanatics, to be clear), then prudence made assaulting Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist terror clique a strategic gamble. (War is full of such rolls of the dice.) And it is one that may have been foolhardy NOT to risk. That there were no WMD's found was a surprise to all (shamefully inept) intelligences services in all of the major nations (U.S. Britain, Russia, China, et al). Heads, figuratively, should have rolled in all of these secret services for criminal incompetence.
Now is the time to rouse the people of Europe. To preserve the secular, scientific advancing Civilization that they cherish. Their dislike for Bush, who is 'not the sharpest tool in the shed', is irrelevant to their own preservation and survival as a non-Muslim Europe. There is a critical need to see the big picture and not drift in socialist daydreams and anti-American silliness, while the Restored Caliphate is infiltrating their lands. Their future depends on a strong alliance with those who are on their side culturally, intellectually, socially, legalistically, philosophically and for freedom of thought, conscience and a future aimed at the Cosmos and not the 7th century.

As you know the German army was not supposed to operate in foreign territory until 1989.
The first asignment took place in Bosnia.
Until now, there are mere 30.000 soldiers ready for asignments overseas.
So it is a bit unfair to call us dubious allies.
