Baghdad (AsiaNews) – Terrorists “have destroyed the most beautiful symbol of the Chaldean Church in the whole of Iraq”, and Christians are “increasingly worried that they will be targets of such acts of violence”, this according to Emmanuel Delly, Patriarch of the Catholic Chaldean Church who was speaking about a terrorist attack which this afternoon destroyed the Bishop’s Palace.At around 4:30 local time (GMT +3), a terrorist commando rushed in, forced priests and workmen out, placed a bomb and blew it up. It was completely destroyed.
Fortunately, no one was killed or injured, but the Patriarch is very worried that it happened and that the “Iraqi government is impotent to prevent such acts”.

Ah yes, now the face of jihad that was familiar to our ancestors is finally making its appearance. It reminds me of a bumper sticker that reads, "Keep honking... I'm reloading." Today we can say to the jihadis, "Keep attacking... We're relearning." The fog enveloping our collective memory is beginning to clear, the memory passed down to us by our ancestors in written accounts of their experience with jihad for centuries. Words like Saracen, taqiyyah, Treaty of Hudaybiyya, dhimmitude, jizya, Sura 9, etc. are returning to everyday lexicon. Another word is returning to common use here in the West: Victory. Complete Victory. The victory of our ancestors is being recalled as we achieve our own.

We are familiar with those books of photographs -- "Lost New York," "Paris in the Past," "London -- Last Seen" -- of beautiful old buildings torn down to make way for the glossy new. Heartrending, we say. And thank god it did not happen everywhere.
But everywhere that Islam went, the artifacts and the churches and the synagogues and the Hindu temples and the Buddhist temples were destroyed. Sita Ram Goel has produced two volumes which list thousands and thousands of Hindu temples completely destroyed, and this is, as he writes, a most incomplete list, based on only on completely identifiable remains. How many were destroyed completely? And what remains of Buddhist temples and artifacts in India, where Buddhism began?
What happened to all the Christian churches in Mesopotamia, and Syria and in North Africa, where Tertullian and St. Augustine lived? What happened to all the synagogues? We know, that just in the recent past, between 1948 and 1967, when the Jordanians held the Old City, every single one of its 37 synagogues was destroyed, and the gravestones in the ancient Jewish cemetery -- some thousands of years old -- were uprooted and used to line the floor of the Jordanian army latrines.
What happened to the Bamiyan Buddhas just the other day was no aberration, though ten seconds of appropriate cluck-clucking from a handful of Arab chanceries were permitted to let the non-Muslim world think that was so.
Under Islam, there is nothing but Islam. Islam teaches its adherents to be indifferent, or hostile to, the pre-Islamic past (that time of universal Jahiliyya) and of course, to any remnants of any non-Islamic present.
The most telling exhibit in all of Turkey is that which one can find tucked away on the second floor of the Museum of Archeological Antiquities in the Topkapi Compound. It shows a scale model of Constantinople in 1453, with each of the Christian churches, based on the descriptions of chroniclers. Beside it is a list of those which remain. Of course, one has only to visit Hagia Sophia, with its large green Islamic flag declaring the victory of Islam by its presence, and to view the vandalized frescoes and broken crosses -- and this was, becuse of its magnificence, at least allowed to stand, and for 450 years was used as a mosque until Ataturk managed to transform it -- not back to a church (that would have been impossible for the Muslims to accept) but at least to a museum (and, not incidentallly, a source of tourist dollars).
Infidels have a right to base their judgment of Islam on 1350 years of history of Muslim treatment of non-Muslims and non-Muslim artifacts. That history is remarkably consistent. A few months ago dozens of venerable Orthodox churches, some dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, were destroyed by Albanian Muslims in the Balkans. A year or two ago the Tomb of Joseph was completely reduced to rubble by a "Palestinian" (as Arafat, "the inventor of his people," helped persuade the world to call them) mob, one last little example of what awaits the Christian as well as Jewish holy sites if those "Palestinians" as the shock-troops of the JIhad against Israel ever manage to seize the Holy Land.
Even in Egypt, from time to time, there are calls to destroy the Pharoahs. Egyptians need tourist dollars however, and the pyramids are just too impressive for most Egyptians not to take some pride. Of course, the entire subject of Egyptology, as of Assyriology, is a product of Western archeologists, who scrupulously and meticulously uncovered the artifacts and monuments of the ancient pre-Islamic civilizations of the Near East, and catalogued them, and scrupulously studied them. Sir Henry Layard among the ruins of Assyria, Leonard Woolley at Ur and Carchemish, Howard Carter with the Tomb of Tutankhamen, all discovered, and Leo Oppenheim and others continued to catalogue and study, the civilizations which now the likes of Zainab Bahrani, from her Columbia perch, sourly insist can truly only be studied by "natives" (i.e. Arabs born in the area), as if somehow those who come from the very world that has for 1350 years shown a remarkable hostility to, and often engaged in the destruction of, both ancient artifacts and more recent non-Islamic structures (though just as the Copts have managed to hold on, so have the Chaldeans and the Assyrians here and there -- the ancient Mandean manuscript libraries, however, have in recent months been burned up by Muslims).
No surprises here. What is past is prologue. And what is present is prologue. Start getting those airplane hangars in Iowa ready now, boys, and carefully label each one for its future contents. Make sure you get the spelling right. And these are the names to put on them:

National Gallery
Alte Pinakothek
And as for the smaller museums -- the Musee Guimet, the Fitzwilliam, the Ashmolean, Museo Etrusco, Museo Correr, Accademia, and so on -- well, hold on. There may be some farmland in Kansas where we can put up more buildings.
We'll do our damnedest. After all, we are the other pole of European civilization. And in a few decades, we may be all we have left.
Don't let Mr. Hugh fool you into thinking that the destruction is all "one way traffic".

Two friends of mine were students/security guards at the University of Pennsylvania (right around the time of the death of Loren Eisley, who worked there, and who is worth reading- especially "The Immense Journey"), and they 'smuggled' me inside for a tour of the basement storage rooms one night... and the things there that were 'suppressed' -concerning the destructiveness of the Islamic "Crescent-ade" as its obliterated the monuments of the past- across North Africa and Asia- were chilling and telling.
The museums are now usually too afriad to show it all.

The article about Muslims targeting christian churches is sadly typical of Muslim attitudes and actions in ALL Islamic countries. Everywhere where Muslims rule, christians and Jews suffer. Its past time we began to fight back, before Muslims start blowing up churches here in the USA.
