Jihadists Attack Iraq Election Offices

More attempts to ensure that democracy fails and Iraq becomes a Sharia state. From Reuters, :

SAMARRA, Iraq (Reuters) - Insurgents have launched attacks on election offices in northern Iraq, killing two people and wounding nine six weeks before Iraqis are due to go to the polls.

Police and hospital sources said two people were killed and eight wounded on Saturday when mortars landed on an election office in Dujail, one of many around the country registering and educating potential voters ahead of the Jan. 30 election.

Among the wounded were six Iraqi National Guards, who were guarding the office against attack in the Sunni Muslim town, 30 miles north of the capital.

A mortar also landed on an election office in the oil city of Kirkuk, where ethnic tensions are running high ahead of a poll many want delayed there.

The office was closed when the mortar hit on Friday night, but a guard was seriously wounded, police said.

Sorry to go OT so early:

Fellow JW/Dwers:

I don't know how many of you visit LGF, but I just HAVE to post this story I read there. You may see this on a couple of threads; I apologize in advance for the repetition.

The sentiment accompanying this story that I wish to convey to you is . . . Merry Christmas.

Hearts and Minds

Go read this post at BlackFive from a Marine Gunnery Sergeant in Iraq, and know that we have friends: The Heart of America.

As you know, I asked for toys for the Iraqi children over here and several people (Americans that support us) sent them over by the box. On each patrol we take through the city, we take as many toys as will fit in our pockets and hand them out as we can. The kids take the toys and run to show them off as if they were worth a million bucks. We are as friendly as we can be to everyone we see, but especially so with the kids. Most of them don’t have any idea what is going on and are completely innocent in all of this.

On one such patrol, our lead security vehicle stopped in the middle of the street. This is not normal and is very unsafe, so the following vehicles began to inquire over the radio. The lead vehicle reported a little girl sitting in the road and said she just would not budge. The command vehicle told the lead to simply go around her and to be kind as they did. The street was wide enough to allow this maneuver and so they waved to her as they drove around.

As the vehicles went around her, I soon saw her sitting there and in her arms she was clutching a little bear that we had handed her a few patrols back. Feeling an immediate connection to the girl, I radioed that we were going to stop. The rest of the convoy paused and I got out the make sure she was OK. The little girl looked scared and concerned, but there was a warmth in her eyes toward me. As I knelt down to talk to her, she moved over and pointed to a mine in the road.

Immediately a cordon was set as the Marine convoy assumed a defensive posture around the site. The mine was destroyed in place.

It was the heart of an American that sent that toy. It was the heart of an American that gave that toy to that little girl. It was the heart of an American that protected that convoy from that mine. Sure, she was a little Iraqi girl and she had no knowledge of purple mountain’s majesty or fruited plains. It was a heart of acceptance, of tolerance, of peace and grace, even through the inconveniences of conflict that saved that convoy from hitting that mine. Those attributes are what keep Americans hearts beating. She may have no affiliation at all with the United States, but she knows what it is to be brave and if we can continue to support her and her new government, she will know what it is to be free. Isn’t that what Americans are, the free and the brave?

If you sent over a toy or a Marine (US Service member) you took part in this. You are a reason that Iraq has to believe in a better future.

CGW:
Tks for the story. yup, I read it on LGF.

As for Iraq election offices- those vile instruments of infidel ideology, namely democracy and glasnost - they represent by far the biggest threat to jihadi gasholes in the ME and beyond. Be sure an Iran and a syria as much as a Saudi or an egypt quakes in its boots to contemplate what the effects of a successful democracy run in Iraq will mean for their sham regimes.

CGW Thanks for the story; I had not heard this but what a lovely story and to beat all the topic of this thread shows how a handful of ja-hosh's would spoil what will happen to be the beginning of a new era where all are equal.

The little girl in the road shows what the Iraqi want, a civilized nation, I hope this little girl and her family have been put out of harms way as it would seem that she would be seen as having thwarted a bombing.

Thank you little girl who ever you are for having the courage to sit in the middle of the road to prevent harm to those sent to protect you.

Yes indeed that is how it WILL happen to be that Iraqi will come in to the new world.

The mujahideen are only being good, devout Muslims. They refuse to allow a mushirk government to take hold in Iraq. Unless it's a brutally repressive and murderous Ba'athist regime, which kills them with impunity if they dare to challenge it.

After seeing how adamant CAIR-Canada is about demanding Sharia-Law here in myown Country,Bush and Americans should look to the North and see how our gutless Liberal Politicians will give the Country away to Islamists that are laying in waiting to slay the infidels where they find them.

When a Syrian Muslim came to Canada to get a dual-Citizenship status and was stopped in New York after exiting a plane from the middle east,he was deported to his Country of origin
since he chose not to renounce his Syrian citizenship and when he was freed and returned to Canada he got the inquiry that Muslim and Arabs demanded to see if Canada was involved.
The man alleged he was tortured and with absolutely no proof the Politicians are bending over backwards to placate the MiddleEast population and accept the torture as fact.
To add insult to this case the Muslim got a Public lawyer and launched a $400,000,000.00
law suit against the Canadian taxpayers for his "Alleged" treatment and mental anguish
while he thought his Candian passport would protect him.

Meanwhile we had a case of a Christian Canadian
held in a Saudi jail and while our Government admitted they knew there was torture it took three years of "Soft-diplomacy" with the Saudi's because they didn't want to endanger their life
since "Beheadings" are common there and about 50 happen per year. The Liberals attended parties at the Saudi embassy in Canada and said that expelling the Saudi embassador would harm the dialogue that's needed to release the Canadian
in the Saudi jail.
BTW, the Canadian was used to secure the release of a Saudi in Gitmo-Bay and the torture now seems to be a ruse to push the USA for the return of the Saudi.
The Christain returned to Canada and the Governemnt took the credit for saving his life but refused any inquiry since they now doubted the claims of weekly torture and a false imprisonment.
Wake-up people,if the wealthy/white politicians see a threat to their control and power they will resort to preserving their riches to buy some of the new political power. It's their grandchildren that will get the money and still have a far better life than our decendants that will have NO power and will live under Sharia-Law imposed by a MiddleEast figure-head.

Jihad or not, we can't force democracy on Iraq. The Sunnis see elections as a way for the Shiite majority to take control of the country and then get revenge on them. Partition the country into autonomous Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish areas, and then the U.S military can leave, hopefully. There is no other way,in my opinion; these people have been cutting each other's throats for a thousand years
