Malmø update. From the Swedish Sydsvenskan, with thanks to Ali Dashti, who summarizes the article thusly:
The ruling Swedish Socialist party is planning a proposal in which the city of Malmø will start preschool classes where all the education given is in Arabic. The idea is that once immigrant children learn the language of their parents, it will become easier for them to learn Swedish later. The idea has already met strong criticism from the Conservative party Moderaterna, who claim that such a move would increase segregation, not diminish it.
Indeed it would, as we have learned with bilingual education in the US.
That’s Malmö, not Malmø.
Growing up in New York, one of my mother's friends taught typing in an inner city school. The school board thought it would be best if she and her colleagues learned to speak and teach in "ghettoese" so as to better connect with students for whom English had effectively become a second language. That little experiment in MC-PC failed miserably as demonstrated by the progressive erosion in standards, SAT scores, and university acceptance rates. Of course in the case of Sweden (and France for that matter), we are witnessing something far more sinister and irreconcilable: the religious and cultural fragmentation of an entire country as a first step towards Arabization and Islamization once Muslims achieve critical mass. But that is, after all, precisely the plutocrat agenda as hinted at in the "Dialogue Between Peoples and Cultures in the Euro-Mediterranean Area":

I'm not sure that I trust this as a credible newsworthy source. It would be absurd to think that a secular City school would allow its classes to be taught in "only arabic".... unless its a madrassa which is repulsive. In addition to this fact, it should/would be illegal if this is a public school in the USA.
Of course, given today's "society", I would not be surprised if this happens. If and when it does, in the USA, you can bank on the fact that 97% of American parents would withdraw their children from public schools, formulate co-op teaching arrangements, and be rid of the entire lot of the beaurocratic idiots that let this scum into our school system.
I remember "fish on fridays" for the Catholics that couldn't eat meat... I don't remember any of this kind of crap, and I'm not so sure that I'd stand for it if it was shoved down me throat.
Shame on muslims for now.

"I'm not sure that I trust this as a credible newsworthy source"
Why not? The newspaper I quoted is one of the largest in Sweden, and perhaps the dominant regional newspaper for this city. Swedish media in general is the most Politically Correct of the entire Western world. They do NOT exaggerate any problem related to Muslim immigrants, trust me.
If you distrust my presentation of the contents of the article, ask any of the Scandinavians reading this website. The good thing about translations here at JihadWatch is that most major European languages are represented among our readership. If any article translated to English deviates significantly from the original, you'll hear about it.
Besides, I've read a lot crazier stuff from Sweden than this.
"That’s Malmö, not Malmø."
That depends ;-) For non-Scandinavians: Scandinavians have added three more letters to the Roman alphabet, which means that we use 29. The "ø" sound in Malmø is written "ø" in Norway and Denmark, "ö" in Sweden (it's the same letter). Malmö would thus be the correct SWEDISH version of the name, yes.
"ø" or "ö" is pronounced something similar to the "i" in bird, or the "u" in burning.
The Swedes seem to be in a hurry to close down their armed forces, so they can afford to pay for the Arabic education of their Muslims:

Future of Swedish Armed Forces Hangs in the Air
After a long debate on the Swedish Armed Forces, it looks like traditional national defences are on the way out in favour of a modern military focused on a rapid reaction force.
The Greens and the Left Party, despite earlier protests, look set to back the Social Democratic government’s proposal to close military bases across the country. This gives the Social Democrats a majority.
The vote is expected to come on Thursday.
"The idea is that once immigrant children learn the language of their parents, it will become easier for them to learn Swedish later."
I just don't comprehend the logic behind this. The best way to learn Swedish, or any language, is to be exposed to it every day. And to be in situations were you're forced to try to speak the new language, & hear it spoken lots by others, especially in a nurturing environment like a school. These kids are likely living in neighbourhoods where Arabic is all they hear at home, on the street, in the shops, amongst their friends and family. So why on earth would you hide them from hearing Swedish in school as well? I don't get it. Is this some weird new method of learning a foreign language? Explain to me how it works, somebody. I'd love to learn to speak Italian better. I guess I should make sure I never hear the language, and then it'll be easier to learn it later, no?
These "experts" obviously know nothing about the language learning curve, which decreases sharply as age increases.
Question: Would the teachers be Arabs? If so, expect to have a generation of Jihadis on your hands, Sweden.
"The idea is that once immigrant children learn the language of their parents, it will become easier for them to learn Swedish later."
NOT.
CGW, take encouragement in the fact that the REAL experts, unlike the Swedish Socialist Party politicians, know perfectly well that teaching Arabic in the early years will only make learning Swedish later more difficult, not easier.
There is not a pediatric neurologist alive who has experience in learning difficulties who does not recognize the following:
There is a period of brain development that is popularly called a "biological window" or a "sensitive period" for specific learning tasks. It is during these brain growth/organization periods that the task in question, be it language, math, art, or music, is learned almost effortlessly. The "biological window" for a SECOND language--believe it or not--"opens" at about SIX MONTHS of age, "peaks" at about 4 years, and then declines steadily until puberty, when, for all practical purposes, it closes. Anyone who has begun to learn a second language after puberty and then compares himself to a child of four beginning to learn the same language at the same time, will readily understand that the child finds it very easy, while the adult must exert a lot more effort.
While adults who start after puberty can become very proficient, it is simply a lot harder for them. I'll not bore you all with the clinical details at this time!
This being the case--the claim that learning Arabic first will not make learning Swedish later EASIER, but rather, more difficult--the Swedish Socialist Party must have an agenda that it is trying to slip by the population.
Hmmm. . .Wonder what that agenda could be?
