Wait a minute. I thought we were supposed to believe that the jihadists were twisting the Qur'an.* And now the American marines are studying the Qur'an in order to think like jihadists? What does that tell us? From the Times Online, with thanks to J. Lynch:
AMERICAN marines and military intelligence analysts are studying the tactics of insurgents in Iraq — staging mock hostage takings, roadside bombings and suicide missions, as well as studying the Koran, praying to Allah and learning to think like jihadists. The Pentagon is struggling to adapt to an enemy that has just claimed the life of the 1,000th combat soldier in Iraq. “The department simply has to be more agile,” Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, admitted last week. “We have got to focus more on the post-conflict phase.”...
For a touch of realism, newcomers are supplied with traditional Arab garments and ordered to take off their shoes indoors. “You need to think of yourselves as mujaheddin, holy warriors,” the group is told, “and you aspire to be a shahid, a martyr killed in battle.”In Ali G accents, the trainees learn to call out Allahu Akbar (God is most great) and Alhamdu Lillah (praise be to God). They are given a Penguin Classics translation of the Koran and an Islamic prayer mat and are shown how to pray.
“One reason you are strong is that the infidels go to church only on Sunday, but you kneel and reflect your submission to God five times a day,” Purdy told them in character.
“We don’t have nuclear weapons, but we have you and you are more powerful than the weapons of the Jewish dogs and infidel crusaders.”
For supper they are given pitta bread, tahini and stuffed vine leaves, which they poke at mistrustfully with their fingers — there is no cutlery. In a room next door are peanuts, chocolate bars and crisps for those who cannot cope. “The guys are only used to hamburgers,” said Purdy.
CLARIFICATION: Just so there is no misunderstanding: as I have written many times and explained in detail in my book Onward Muslim Soldiers, the jihadists are working from deeply embedded traditions within Islam, with ample justification in the Qur'an and other Islamic texts. I do not believe that they are "twisting the Qur'an." The sentence above was intended to mean that the mainstream media, as well as the government, would have us believe, with no evidence, that the jihadists are "twisting the Qur'an."
This might inadvertdly result in some grunts joing the ummah. I wonder if digging a bit deeper might dredge up some Marine imams who are more than happy to get Islam grounded into the corp anyway possible.
That includes as a tactical study program until the time is right to scream discrimination. At that point, Islam is only deeper entrenched someplace it never existed before as odification are made to give "sensitivity lessons" to our premier fighters.
This may well be a good way of enlightening America about the real truth about Islam.
When these men return to their families and friends they are going to be able to explain that it is Islam itself that makes the terrorists violent.
It seems that the USA might well be making the transition from calling it a 'war against terror' to a 'war against Islam'.
Smell that???? . . .
Something stinks . . .
big time . . .
Perhaps I'm jaded after 5 months of reading JW/DW . . . but don't the names: Sgt. Asan Akbar, Army reservist Jeffrey Leon Battle, and of course Ali Mohamed ring a bell? Rummie boy, (smack) SNAP OUT OF IT!
Role play activities normally don't make me ill but as the cult of islam is slammed down the infidel's throat - what with the inculcation of supposed prayers that spew anti-semetic/anti-western filth complete with prayer rugs and the mindless drivel that motivates the automatons . . .it's no wonder this article made me ill.
These techniques have been used in the course of other wars in the past in efforts to try and understand how and why the enemy thinks the way he does. I have faith in our marines understanding the brain washing emersion of adhan and rakat, asr, salat, and zuhr. As we are trying to find greater understanding about Islam here in Jihad watch.
KNOW YOUR ENEMY,KNOW HIM WELL!--- General Patton
Knowledge is power and I don't think too many Marines would go for Islam just because they learned more about it. Quite the contrary. As followers of JW are well aware, the more one knows about Islam, the LESS likely they will take a real spiritual interest in it. This strategy will help them understand the enemy and they might also recognize a snake in their midst. Muslims in the Marines must be nervous about this development.
Purdy is correct. Muslims face Mecca and pray 5 times a day. As a Believer in Christ, I go throughout my day and do my very best to do as our Lord and Savior commands..."Pray without Ceasing." May our Lord and Savior continue to bless Our Brave Men and Women in Iraq and here in Afghanistan. The Lord also said, "Let the Dead bury their Dead." Praise and Glory to the One True God!

AN OPEN REPLY TO ROBERT SPENCER.
Dear Mr. Spencer
First of all, thanks so much for titling a piece you did about me "Noam Chomsky as Rock Star":
http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/004259.php#comments
Located around comment 19-20. I commented on this already, but on looking back, Mr. LeVine with a capital "V" sneers the following:
'Muslims have as little ability to "destroy the west" as Hamas has to destroy Israel. In fact, the Asian avian flu that Sec. of Health and Human Services Thompson is suddenly worried about after resigning could easily kill exponentially more people in the next year than Muslims could kill westerners in a hundred years of jihad. Sorry, i know that the threat of jihad to what you call "the West" is your big thing...'.
Notice his sneering tone, "What you call the west...", and what does he call it? What about the facts relating to imperial islam and its stunning record of conquests? Is that fantasy in the mind of mr. DeVine?
I don't know what to think about this story, but praying to allah can not be a good thing- even to role play.
O.T.- Here is a letter to the editor from a German fellow who can't see the difference between Christians and jihadis.

Well, that link takes you to a registration page but click on the opinion link on the page and scroll down to the story about "US should avoid path of religious fanatacism"
Role-playing seems to me to be a waste of time, and trying to understand the Koran is way beyond what grunts should be attempting to decipher since they do not have that kind of time. There are a number of short books that analyze and summarize Islam, particularly the death doctrines that should concern Marines the most. They should for example study any of the excellent works by Spencer, Trifkovic, Warraq, Stephen Schwartz, etc., all of which go far enough into the Koran and as well the hadith and the Sira to summarize the death-doctrines and other aspects of Islam that the Marines should be most aware of.
This is insane!
I'm seriously concerned abt some of these youngsters actually taking to islam. In any case, now that they've affirmned faith in allah, even while acting, they are now apostates and hence legitimate targets for muzzie mayhem.
Besides, I wonder if Mossad would be kind enough to impart such training than any muzzies. The Mossad has uased jews of various races to infiltrate muzzie rings and their training jews to act like muzzies is probably w/o parallel in the world.

seems this fella is of the ilk that prefers to whitewash jihad.
Thore Schmechtig of Gifhorn, a self described "rare German who is very observant of religious fanaticism of every kind, including what Germans can only call ''pseudo-Christian madness" wrote:
"I see no significant difference between your (US)fundamentalists and the Islamic ones."
Someone should send this enlightened German the links to JW/DW for some much needed exposure to the Islamic agenda . . .perhaps he doesn't get out much cause things don't look so good in Germany these days either.
I just came from the library and found this DEVASTATING refutation of the leftist myth that Adolf Hitler was a good Christian. Fasten your set-belts folks, these are his own words:
"The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity’s illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jew." (July 11-12, 1941)
"The law of natural selection justifies …incessant struggle by allowing the survival of the fittest. Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of human failure." (October 10, 1941)
"The best thing would be to let Christianity die a natural death. A slow death has something comforting about it. The dogma of Christianity gets worn away before the advances of science. Religion will have to make more and more concessions. Gradually myths will crumble. …"Observe, by the way, that, as a corollary, the Mussulman was promised a paradise peopled with houris, where wine flowed in streams –a real earthly paradise. The Christians on the other hand, declare themselves satisfied if after their death they are allowed to sing Hallelujahs! …Christianity, of course, has reached the peak of absurdity in this respect. And that’s why its structure will collapse." (October 14, 1941)
"The reason the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity. Christianity is a prototype of Bolshevism: the mobilization by the Jew of the masses of slaves with the object of undermining society." (October 19, 1941)
"I can imagine being enthusiastic about the paradise of Mahomet, but as for the insipid paradise of the Christians! …Christianity is an invention of sick brains." (December 13, 1941)
"As soon as the idea was introduced that all men are equal before God, (the ancient) world was bound to collapse." (December 14, 1941)
"And what nonsense it is to aspire to a Heaven to which, according to the Church’s own teaching, only those have entry to who have made a complete failure of life only on earth! It won’t be much fun to have to meet again there all those whose stupidity, in spite of the Biblical tag "blessed are the humble of heart," has already infuriated one beyond endurance on this earth! Imagine how tremendously attractive a Heaven will be to a man, which contains only women off indifferent appearance and faded intellect!" (April 19, 1941)

Absolutely fascinating. Do you know of these passages available in an online source/link?

Explosive material indeed. Hitler's diatribes again prove that it takes one to know one I guess. Too many Chamberlains and too few Churchills back in the 7th century Arabia have led to this sorry state of the world today.

DUNNO WHO WROTE THIS BUT FITS IN PREFECTLY HERE
GREAT WRITING WELL WORTH READING MORE THAN ONCE
THIS IS GOING CLEAN OUT CATHIES GOLD STAR STOCK
The Geneva Conventions are so outdated and are written so broadly that they have become a sword used by terrorists to kill civilians, rather than a shield to protect civilians from terrorists. These international laws have become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.
Following World War II, in which millions of civilians were killed by armed forces, the international community strengthened the laws designed to distinguish between legitimate military targets and off-limit noncombatants. The line in those days was clear: The military wore uniforms, were part of a nation's organized armed forces, and generally lived in military bases outside of population centers. Noncombatants, on the other hand, wore civilian clothing and lived mostly in areas distant from the battlefields.
The war by terrorists against democracies has changed all this. Terrorists who do not care about the laws of warfare target innocent noncombatants. Indeed, their goal is to maximize the number of deaths and injuries among the most vulnerable civilians, such as children, women and the elderly. They employ suicide bombers who cannot be deterred by the threat of death or imprisonment because they are brainwashed to believe that their reward awaits them in another world. They have no "return address."
The terrorist leaders -- who do not wear military uniforms -- deliberately hide among noncombatants. They have also used ambulances, women pretending to be sick or pregnant, and even children as carriers of lethal explosives.
By employing these tactics, terrorists put the democracies to difficult choices: Either allow those who plan and coordinate terrorist attacks to escape justice and continue their victimization of civilians, or attack them in their enclaves, thereby risking death or injury to the civilians they are using as human shields.
Equating the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians by terrorists with the unintended consequences of trying to combat terrorism only encourages more terrorism.
Whenever a civilian is accidentally killed or an ambulance is held up at a checkpoint, the terrorist leaders, and those who support them, have exploited the post-World War II laws of warfare to condemn the democracies for violating the letter of the law. Some human rights groups, international organizations and churches have joined this chorus of condemnation, equating the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians by terrorists with the unintended consequences of trying to combat terrorism -- unintended by the democracies, but quite specifically intended, indeed provoked by, the terrorists. This only encourages more terrorism, since the terrorists receive a double benefit from their actions. First they benefit from killing "enemy" civilians. Second, they benefit from the condemnation heaped on their enemies. Human rights are thus being used to promote human wrongs.
The time has come to revisit the laws of war and to make them relevant to new realities. If their ultimate purpose was to serve as a shield to protect innocent civilians, they are failing miserably, since they are being used as a sword by terrorists who target such innocent civilians. Several changes should be considered:
· First, democracies must be legally empowered to attack terrorists who hide among civilians, so long as proportional force is employed. Civilians who are killed while being used as human shields by terrorists must be deemed the victims of the terrorists who have chosen to hide among them, rather than those of the democracies who may have fired the fatal shot.
· Second, a new category of prisoner should be recognized for captured terrorists and those who support them. They are not "prisoners of war," neither are they "ordinary criminals." They are suspected terrorists who operate outside the laws of war, and a new status should be designated for them - a status that affords them certain humanitarian rights, but does not treat them as traditional combatants.
· Third, the law must come to realize that the traditional sharp line between combatants and civilians has been replaced by a continuum of civilian-ness. At the innocent end are those who do not support terrorism in any way. In the middle are those who applaud the terrorism, encourage it, but do not actively facilitate it. At the guilty end are those who help finance it, who make martyrs of the suicide bombers, who help the terrorists hide among them, and who fail to report imminent attacks of which they are aware. The law should recognize this continuum in dealing with those who are complicit, to some degree, in terrorism.
· Fourth, the treaties against all forms of torture must begin to recognize differences in degree among varying forms of rough interrogation, ranging from trickery and humiliation, on the one hand, to lethal torture on the other. They must also recognize that any country faced with a ticking-time-bomb terrorist would resort to some forms of interrogation that are today prohibited by the treaty.
International law must recognize that democracies have been forced by the tactics of terrorists to make difficult decisions regarding life and death. The old black-and-white distinctions must be replaced by new categories, rules and approaches that strike the proper balance between preserving human rights and preventing human wrongs. For the law to work, it must be realistic and it must adapt to changing needs.
We must learn to realise that human rights and rules of war cannot apply to creatures who choose to live outside the parameters of being humam

I think that the military is finally getting the message that to fight, and win, against Jihadists you have to know how they think. Another way to look at this is that while we are generally trying to wage a third generation war, the jihadist are waging a forth generation war.

Fourth-generation warfare
From Disinfopedia
"The premise of fourth-generation warfare, (otherwise known by the acronym 4GW) is that the world itself has changed, so that terrorism and guerilla warfare — and other elusive techniques that are still being invented — are now ready to move to center stage. It would be a mistake, however, and perhaps a goal of our opponents might be to encourage this mistake, if we were to focus on the techniques and not the nature of 4GW itself."

Finally we are taking steps that will prove most useful.
Having heard and read tales of some of the most successful fire teams in Vietnam one of the best tactics deployed was to "eat what they eat, drink what they drink, wear what they wear,be them".
Me personally here in CONUS I have read many books and articles for a glimpse of what we ALL may be up against SOON.If we do not curtail what is happening in Iraq today You and I will be dealing with it in our country.
What kind of mind blast might this be to the enemy as they receive the reports being generated on this; will it not be disturbing news to Omar,Hajji and his merry bunch of men.
Have YOU ever heard of the "Origins of the Nizari Isma'ilis" where the Paradise the mussies are seeking began? Why do the Sunni's and Shi'ites not get along?Maybe you could look up what the Shism of Islam was or what Marco Polo had to say about the "Castle of Alumut" when he visited in 1273!
I say it is about time we "Fight Fire With Fire".
They will all meet their HOURIS' in Paradise as soon as they become Shaheed.
Andrew and Voletti,
It's a 746 page book, and I found these passages by using the index and looking for anything related to "Islam." To my surprise, I found quite a few disparaging remarks on Christianity that floored me, so I used the index again to see have he said about Christianity. Believe me, there's alot more where that came from.
I have a feeling that any passages you find on the internet with regards to Hitler's "table talk" will probably be related to his racism and contempt for Jews. Most scholars today could care less that Hitler insulted Christianity or praised Islam.
Interestingly, I found this book by accident when I was trying to confirm whether or not Henrik Himmler praised Islam (as some sources say). I could not find a source to confirm this for Himmler, but I looked through the indeces of all the thick books on the shelf related to Nazism and hit paydirt: In other words, I caught an even BIGGER fish (Hitler) praising Muhammad!
Thank you Rublev for your research. I will of course view the source book to determine the veracity of the quotes you cited here.
Debate with atheists about the supposed "Christian" inspiration of Hitler is usually started by the atheists showing pictures of Hitler with some member of the papacy. This they say is proof that he was Christian. However when I then point them to the pictures of Hitler with the Jerusalem Mufti Haj Amin al Husseini and ask them whether that means he was also a Muslim, they suddenly go silent. They also don't have an answer for why Hitler accepted the assistence of Haj Amin Al Husseini to assemble a Muslim SS unit.
The soldiers learning "Know thy enemy" need to be fed better.
Let them eat as well as the Saudi Princes,
at least.
Why should they get subsistence rations?
The hardest in opposition, as they studied our culture, ate decently.
Don't pretend that, behind closed doors in Iraq, Iran, etc., they aren't enjoying a better repast, and laughing at the 'sheepherder fare' they're pushing on the soldiers.
We need to be able to tolerate the worst, but know the full range, even up to tangerine and marzipan treats after a 7-course meal of lamb, gazelle, goose, beef, camel, duck and goat.
Know ALL of thy enemy.
If they want to go against a world favoring freedom of thought, conscience and belief, then we can at least enjoy their best, while the struggle lasts.
Prometheus is a good model for endurance.
And his name is useful, meaning: "Fore-thought".
I prefer to eat the vulture's liver (pate de talionis canard?) than vice versa, of course.
I read the book "Hitlers Table Talk", and its true, and there are plenty of other sources that confirm it also.
Hitler despised Christianity. And admired islam.
Knowing the enemy? Or trying to "understand" the enemy?
When was the last time the United States won a war? We have to go back almost 60 years for that.
Unless the U.S. Marines become irregulars that speak, dress, eat, sleep, defecate, as do their enemies--and roam the street un order to take out those enmies--this appears to be a useless exercise.
This "touchy-feely" exercise, coupled with convicting soldiers that kill "unarmed civilians" is straining to be the "good guys." Didn't Bush say something about " . . . they don't know how good we are?"
Good guys don't win ball games--and they don't win wars. Good guys went into Somalia to feed the starving, and good guys died uselessly to keep up the image as good guys.
Are we making friends in all over the Islamic world by showing how "good" we are? Do the Muslim Arabs love us more when we show how we punish our soldiers and Marines for not making certain that the people they kill are visibly armed and/or actually dropping bombs from garbage trucks and not just innocently riding around as the Shi'ia witnesses in Sadr City testified they did?
Since the United States and Great Britain defeated Geramany and Japan in 1945, we (US) have fought all subsequent wars with severe restrictions--and we have lost every one of them.
This time we could lose the whole caboodle.
Let's not lose this one.

It made people in the West aware that THIS was personal, not a geopolitical show of force.
"Knowing you are to be hanged in the morning greatly concentrates the mind."
We are fighting on the scaffold -with our enemies-who built it to hang us. And replace our civilization with an ideology which is opposed to freedom of thought, conscience and belief.
And its extremist Muslim brethren are trying to see how hard we will fight back -against their threat.
They must not read history (Dresden, Tokyo. & Worse). Or listen to our song lyrics ("Won't Get Fooled Again" to "Toxic").
The 9/11 MASS killings were unlike anything in scale in the West since Pearl Harbor. But 9/11 was far more serious -on a more profound internal 'scale'.
Pearl Harbor was answered.
This challenge, as it becomes clearer, shall be met.
Hard.
Thanks Rublev, for those quotes. I had read the one sentence in "Mein Kampf" about Islam and how it was better than Christianity. He said that they were better at converting masses, and Christianity was for dopes cuz their too stupid.
Rublev; thanks for reminding me of things I read long ago. I suspect that another contribution to the "Christian" Hitler myth is people who suppose that anyone who was ever baptized is ipso facto and always a "Christian" regardless of what he does or does not actually believe about God, the person of Jesus Christ, the Bible, and last things.
I'm also of the mind that the Marines are reading the Qu'ran to "know the enemy." My guess is, given where a lot of military recruits are from, the big danger isn't of Islamic proselytism in and by the armed forces of the USA, but that some of the military folks will develop an even more negative image of Islam, and might keep on fighting after they get home. It's happened in other wars of the past, after all.
Sounds like a waste of time to me.
I'd feel safer if the marines were on a firing range, improving their aim with rifles, not prayer mats.
profitsbeard:
The response to the destruction of the WTC and direct attacks on the Pentagon did not elicit the response that Pearl Harbor did.
We still have not defined our enemy except as "Terror" and our government makes excuses for that "great Abrahamic religion" that they say was hijacked by a few bad Muslims.
Yes, the US hit Afghanistan and cleaned out the al Qaeda training camps there. The next answer was to try and bring "democracy" to Iraq. This is an ongoing and costly process in both money and personnel.
We are supposed to be winning the "War on Terror," while Europe has been invaded by the followers of the ideology that spawned the attack on the US.
Even here in the US, the followers of that ideology are demanding more than their fair share. They use our laws and courts to have their way and cry "racists!" whenever attempts are made to shore up our security.
Half measures do not win wars; and we haven't even taken half measures in confronting our enemy. Even today, we still hear whining about the interned Japanese-Americans of WWII. Many of these proved their patriotism by going to war for the US in Europe. Some, however, were loyal to Japan.
Now, we, along with Europe, are more afraid of offending the adherents to what our own leaders termed the "religion of peace and compassion than of the attacks that our government is warning is are certain to come.
Mr. Voletti says “I'm seriously concerned abt some of these youngsters (marines) actually taking to islam”.
Tger says “The more one knows about Islam, the LESS likely they will take a real spiritual interest in it”.
Others have expresses alarm, disgust about role play. Boy, I’m amazed. I f I didn’t know it I do now…the West is obsessed with Islam, other are afraid of it…afraid of it’s hypnotic, drawing effect.
If you listen to the Koran, especially by one who has a good resonating voice, it has a relaxing effect, you can sit and and listen and listen and listen.
The effect is like a sweet smelling perfume, in a hot bath having your very best meal and drink ….all at the same time….absolutely intoxicating….yes been there , got the jilbab.
It’s slow at first….a gentle tug….but a nagging one….and 5 times a day prayer starts to grow on you….you start to look at your watch…not being able to wait for the next prayer time. Within a week…you start to want to ask for more, to get books and to research further. And you start to gain acceptance…drawing you in ….much like when you enter the sea for a swim. At first the waves push you out but if you go further in , you bob with the waves, you enjoy the experience, go in further and it gives you buoyancy….all that water around you and you cannot drown. Go in further and get caught in the current …..and you cannot escape. You are part of it … you are convinced of the truthfulness of Islam and seek to become a Muslim, all he has to do is to believe in his heart and confess:
"I bear witness that nothing deserves to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
This is known as the 'Two Testimonies', and an English transliteration of the actual Arabic words recited is as follows:
"Ashadu an La Ilaha illa-llah, wa Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah."
There is no special ceremony for this conversion to Islam, except a public declaration of the above.

if you wish to become a muslim.
Please note that once a person becomes a Muslim, he cannot be declared a non-Muslim (easily).
Yes, in my opinion, I have no doubt...give this role play a couple of weeks and a lot of marines will convert.....some may not say publicly.....but the seeds have taken root.
Personally I think you are making the mistake of not role playing the jihadist ...but that of a muslim...the $64 Million question is
"do they know enough to differentite between the two"?

Shiva *LOL*. Now was it lenin who called Lenin who called religion the opiate of the masses? He knoew nothing about the heroin of the masses though...(:D)
Its undeniably tue that islam in the west attracts the 'mentally weakest' section of the population - the ones who've a desparate desire to not take responsibility for themselves and their actions - starting from criminals in prisons to women who marry moslems knowingly giving up their rights and freedoms(and that of their children).
The good news though is despite my always thinking of islam as a black hole (exerting such strong gravitational pull that even the light of truth and goodness cannot escape its eternal darkness), there have been awesomely courageous souls who've escaped this black hole.
People like Ibn Warraq and Hirsi Ali who escaped the black hole are easily worth a 1000 western despos who fell in - in terms of courage, fastitude, rectitude, spiritual clarity, enlightened responsibility and sheer raw intellect. We should join together and celebrate the stories of thsoe who've fled the horros of islam after bearing the brunt head on, full time 24x7.
Grande, folks!

Partially true Naseem....partially true.
I wanted to research it further, and in so doing it convinced me of the utter falseness of Islam.
Much as it did with the majority of posters here.
I discovered such nonsense as;

Time would not permit me to disclose everything I have learned, but be assured, a lot of it is along these lines.

This is just pure and simple BS. It makes me think of the fbi studying the brains of serial killers. BS and CRAP..so what if you should find out the reason. It doesn't matter anyway since we all know the ultimate goal so why waste this kind of time. We already played around in iraq by trying to respect their holy mosques where they stored their weapons of murder where they beheaded people., sure, satan considers hell his holy ground. Blow all of their holy molies to hell where it should be. and stop wasting time. just my opinion
