Please find below examples of Sunni Sharia law from the Shafi'i school of Islamic law. There are three other major schools of Sunni Islamic law, the Hanafi, Maliki and Hanbali. About 75 percent of the legal pronouncements of the above-mentioned schools are identical. A Sunni Muslim can choose to follow any one of the schools. They do differ in some major aspects however. For instance, the Shafi'i school mandates female circumcision (The Shafi'i school could be chosen to be followed by a Sunni Muslim anywhere; it is followed by a majority of Muslims in Egypt).

The below-mentioned examples have been excerpted from the Umdat al-Salik (the Reliance of the Traveller)which is a classic manual of Islamic law; a representative of the famous Islamic University of al-Azhar has certified that the "... translation [of the Umdat al-Salik] corresponds to the Arabic original and conforms to the practice and faith of the orthodox Sunni Community (Ahl al-Sunna was al-Jama'a)." (p. xx, The Reliance of the Traveller, Beltsville Maryland: Amana Publications, 1994)

I post these examples only to introduce non-Muslims to the objective facts regarding Islamic law; if any Muslim reading this finds it troubling to have their own legal system publicly revealed then I suggest that they ask themselves why they find it troubling.

1. Offensive, military jihad against non-Muslims is a communal, religious obligation;
2. A person who is ignorant about Islamic legal opinion must follow the legal opinion of a scholar;
3. The penalty for a Muslim apostate (someone who no longer believes in or no longer follows the tenets of Islam) is death;
4. When slaughtering animals for food, a knife must be used to cut the windpipe and gullet;
5. A woman is only eligible to receive half the inheritance of a man;
6. Marriage may be forced on virgins by their father or father’s father;

10. A free Muslim man may marry up to four women;
11. Retaliation is obligatory in most cases when someone is deliberately murdered except when a Muslim kills a non-Muslim, a Jew or a Christian kills a Muslim apostate or a father or mother kill their offspring;
12. Non-Muslim subjects (Ahl al-Dhimma) of a Muslim state are subject to a series of discriminatory laws – “dhimmitude”;
13. The penalty for fornication or sodomy is being stoned to death;
14. The penalty for an initial theft is amputation of the right hand. Subsequent thefts are penalized by further amputations of feet and hand;
15. A non-Muslim cannot testify against a Muslim in court; a person who is “without respectability” cannot give legal testimony; a woman’s legal testimony is only given half the legal weight of a man’s (and is only acceptable in cases involving property); to legally prove fornication or sodomy requires 4 male witnesses who actually saw the act;
16. The establishment and continuation of the Islamic Caliphate (by force, if necessary) is a communal obligation;
17. Sodomites and Lesbians must be killed;
18. Laughing too much is forbidden;
19. Musical instruments are unlawful;
20. Creating pictures of animate life is forbidden;
21. Female circumcision, which includes the excision of the clitoris, is obligatory;
22. Slavery is permitted;
23. People may be bribed to convert to Islam;
24. Beating a rebellious wife is permissible; and,
25. Lying is permissible in a time of war (or jihad).

About his meeting with OIC secretary general he said that it has remained productive. The matters related to Islamic countries were discussed in depth in the conference.
Durrani underlined that implementation of all the decisions taken in conference will be ensured and funds will also be collected in this regard.
It is need of hour to make OIC vibrant so that positive activities could be promoted in Islamic countries without wasting time, he urged.

Superstitious muslims beleive that the tsunamis was caused by God demonstrating his power to the puny humans. Straighten up or you will see more vengence from the heavens is the inplied message from on high.

I wonder if any muslim has been to the Arizona meteor crator. It's a large impact area that has been there before man came on the planet. Now why would almighty god throw a big rock into the earth for when there were no humans to terrify. I guess he was just practicing his throwing arm for later when he put humans here.

The moon, full of impact crators from billions of years ago. Yes this was even before mohammad had a face to face talk with god. The one and only God and all time rock throwing champ of the universe. I wonder if mohammad played some catch with the almighty god, maybe thats where the idea of stoning came from.

Fazlur Rehman is correct -- the West must certainly stop equating Jihad with terrorism. Terrorism is only one of the instruments of Jihad. And if the only concern were to be terrorism, then none of us should have any objections if, for example, the "peaceful" islamization of Europe should take place. But of course our objection is not only to terrorism, but to the islamization of the Bilad al-kufr, the lands where we Infidels live. Mere demography should not be destiny. Not in Israel, not in Italy, not in the United States. For Infidel control of all three is essential to the existence of Western civilization -- the first for the holy places of that civilization, the second for the art of that civilization, and the third -- well, without the third the West is a goner.

Once the belief-system of Islam is thoroughly understood, once its tenets (and I am not talking about Ramadan, or qibla-calculations around the world), especially as they pertain to Infidels, their care and feeding, or for that matter their slaughter or forced conversion or reduction to a state of permanent humiliation, dependnet entirely on Muslims for whatever "rights" they may be said to possess, no sensible Infidel can contemplate with equanimity the further spread of Islam anywhere.

Nor is conventional combat the only problem that remains once terrorism is dealt with (if indeed, it can be dealt with). Combat or "qital" is mentioned 27 times in the Qur'an. 1400 years before there were suicide bombings, there was warfare -- warfare that included a good deal of striking terror through most unsavory means, but nonehtless, something akin to the warfare of the period.

But the other instruments of Jihad also need to be understood. There is "wealth," which means the use of the economic weapon -- now possible, as it was not before, with the fabulous unearned OPEC oil money. Contracts dangled before Western businessmen (take a look, for example, at the companies that practically took over Washington to push for the AWACS sale in 1980 or 1981 -- everyone, with United Technologies and the Whitney Corporation, which was a builder and outfitter of hospitals in Saudi Arabia -- danced to the Saudi tune, and for years, of course, ARAMCO worked tirelessly as a full-time propagandist for that "staunch ally" of the U.S. , Saudi Arabia (with which the United States has nothing in common). Money can bribe journalists. Money can buy whole academic centers -- see two of them at Georgetown today, or at Bradford, Durham, and Exeter in England, or where a whole center has not been bought and paid for, the odd professorial chair. Think of the King Abdul Aziz Chair out in sunny California, the Edward Said Chair nicely filled by the backside of the self-satisfied Rashid Khalidi at Columbia, or the "Guardian of the Two Noble Places" Adjunct Professor Law, Frank Vogel, at Harvard Law School (if you want to find out anything about Islam, and the Shari'a, or about Antoine Fattal, I'm afraid Harvard Law School is one of the worst places in the world to start looking). Money can buy all sorts of ex-diplomats -- and their friends. Think of the late John C. West, the Honorable John C. West, who arranged for a job for his friend Crawford Cook with the Saudis, even while West was still our ambassador. And who will look into the past 30 years of the activities of Raymond Close, the former C.I.A. station chief in Jiddah, who then went into business with two Saudis, then got deep into BCCI, but wherever his most rewarding life as an "international business consultant" has taken him, has always made time to lecture and write about the loyalty, and sheer goodness, of the House of Saud. And what about James C. Akins -- now there's a man who deserves a whole book, a whole library, devoted to what he did, or did not do, in 1973, when he was the American ambassador at a time when a sane energy policy, one that recaptured oligopolistic rents, might have been fashioned, but because Akins was exactly the wrong man in exactly the wrong place, no such thing ever happened -- and instead, the nonsense of relying on the kindness of a stranger, Saudi Arabia, meant that American energy policy remained -- non-existent.

And then there is the weapon of "pen, speech" which means propaganda. "We would have liked to have bought up all the Western media" Abdullah admitted long ago, to a Jordanian paper, back in November 1979. Much has been bought up -- including large holdings, now, in Murdoch's enterprise by the tic-ridden Saudi whose check was publicly returned by Mayor Giuliani. That "pen, speech" is at work all over the world. Meanwhile, Infidels do nothing except pay for Arab-language channels meant to reassure Muslims as to how wonderful life is for Muslims in America (even if it is, should this be broadcast? Does one wish to have more Muslim immigrants, or to stop Muslim immigration all over the Western world?), and instead of broadcasting programs on the American Constitution, offer up Britney Spears as a way to win hearts and minds.

Finally, there is demography -- the simple calculation that through Da'wa, starting with the psychically and economically marginal, the alienated, the sociopathic, and then expanding outwards, and by having Muslims overbreed -- with a few hidden wives, in Western Europe, the birthrate for Muslims is now 7 1/2% while for non-Muslims it is 1 1/2% -- that is, five time s the rate. Do the math. Draw a graph. Use the current figures for Muslim and non-Muslim populations. What will happen when 20% or 30% of the population is Muslim? Anything? Nothing? Do you want to head that off, or are you indifferent as long as "terrorism" is not involved?

Yes, the Jihad is not the same thing as "terrorism." That Jihad has many more instruments at its disposal than terrorism alone. Indeed, terrorism may be the least effective of its weapons, and it would not surprise of a halt is called to such terrorism, so that Infidels are so relieved that they, in turn, will again lose interest, and forget about the demographic conquest from within the Bilad al-kufr. And that Jihad is much bigger, much more threatening to art, science, free and skeptical inquiry, individual autonomy, than is commonly understood. No one likes to confront painful choices, painful decisions. One always puts things off. But at the moment, it would not take much to head off great future disasters.

It is not complicated. Look around. Study the texts. Read the histories. Read what defectors from Islam say. Come to some conclusions. Try to persuade others. Do not let up. Try to persuade, above all, those in the press and on television, and those who run the governments of the Western world. Find the like-minded in other Infidel countries, so that information can be exchanged, and support offered.

Logical, that the expansion of isalm is dependant on a multi pronged approach. Of course, if this disaster had happened in the US or Australia, Islamic 'clerics' would have been screeching publically about how the infidels had been punished for their hatred and persecution of Muslims.

Well i am really upset that islam in general and jihad in particular has taken on this ugly form in the west. It is generally linked to any terrorist action in the world killing tens of innocent civilians.

Jihad in islam is the giving up of a muslims property, time, or even life in the sake of allah. People here have elaborated into the use of such things as terrorism and wealth into the destruction of people and society. This is a huge misunderstanding. Islam is all about peace and people lining together in harmony.

If people who call themselves muslims do kill people and bomb themselves well we dont have to associate them with islam and jihad. In order for there to be jihad, there needs to be a khalifa and to this present day no arab or muslim leader could call himself that, as no country in the world is applying islam 100 percent in its laws.

It would make more sense however to relate the USA with killing, as it messed up two countries and could not fix it up like they told us they would. People in iraq and afghanistan till this present day still live in fear from not only the guerilla fighters, but also from the US forces, who only bring with them death and destruction.

A i could almost hear now what the US officials were saying about how iraq would end up to be the "democracy" of the middle east, and how everybody will follow its example, and now all i could do is laugh at such a ridiculous thought. I cant even think such a pretty thought, for such a devastated country. They cant even leave the country without the risk of immediate overthrow of the american puppet government and the replacement by another dictator who will do the same as saddam hussein did before his overthrow by the "liberation forces".

Why cant the US just leave muslims alone? All they could talk about is muslims hate us this and that, why dont they just try to stop killings muslims? Roughly, for the price of a single Hawk bomber, any government could provide one and a half million people with clean drinking water for life.

The Fazlur Rehman that has been quoted in the PakTribune article is NOT the same person as Fazlur Rehman Khalil that has been quoted in the NYT article. The first Fazl is a leader of the Islamist political party "Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam" and the coalition party "Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal" (MMA). The latter Fazl (Khalil) is the leader of the Islamist militant outfit "Jamiat ul-Ansar" (formerly "Harakat ul-Mujahideen").

That said, the MMA's Fazlur Rehman is just as dangerous. His madrassas in Pakistan were crucial in providing manpower to the Taliban and other militant groups. I just think it's important to attribute the right quote to the right person.

The Red Cross has announced that it will be splitting all donations with the Red Crescent, its muslim counterpart, so I wouldn't send any money to them.

Re tsunami relief aid :

On tonights News, UK government are now to give £50 million and British public have donated £25 million and still counting, at £1 million an hour being handed over...
to think much of that will go to red crescent when we have our own living in poverty and homless.
It makes me sick !!!!

I have every symapathy for the innocents in this catastrophe but no Muslim leader should handle one red cent of this aid.
It should go directly on practical goods, food, water, medicines clothing, shelter etc.

The fact that if any of the Muslim leaders got their hands on any of our money (for example, part of what we might donate to the Red Cross), we all know perfectly well that some of it would go to terrorist causes.

Yes, in all likihood no matter who or what humanitarian aid organization receives donations, some of it will go to muslims and to others who hate freedom and western civilaztion. Sorry for even suggesting.
