The mutilation of Muslim girls’ genitals is on a steady rise throughout Europe.Young girls born in Europe to immigrant Muslim families, mostly from Africa, are being assaulted with female genital mutilation (FGM).
No one, save a handful of courageous activists, is doing anything about it.
The Scotsman.com recently reported that Waris Dirie, the Somalia-born supermodel and best-selling author, who has campaigned to stop female genital mutilation (which disfigured her at age five in her homeland), has stated that approximately one out of every three African families in Europe is secretly perpetrating this crime against their daughters. Germany, the Netherlands and Austria are the main scenes of this barbarity -- where approximately 8,000 girls have been assaulted.
European authorities, with the exception of those in France, are benignly standing by, operating according to the progressive Party Line that disallows any criticism of Third World cultures in general -- and Islamic culture in particular. Police officers, social workers, teachers, doctors and nurses operate under the social obligation not to report this crime.
This sexual lobotomy of women is usually performed on girls at the age of seven or eight, right before their menstrual periods begin. The impulse behind this savagery is clear: the hatred of women and the terrifying fear of their sexuality. Demonizing female sexual desire and pleasure -- and annihilating it -- becomes the priority. To successfully achieve female genital mutilation, therefore, the mutilators have to legitimize and institutionalize it. As a result, they socially construct the pathological ideology that a girl’s genital area is “dirty” and, therefore, unacceptable. In Egypt, an uncircumcised girl is considered nigsa (unclean). The way she becomes non-nigsa is to have her clitoris sliced off. In Sudan, the term used for getting rid of the clitoris is tahur -- which means “cleansing” or “purification.”
Africa and Arabia are the regions where misogynists carry out the highest number of these “purifications.” Muslims serve as the principal religious group that bestows this cleansing gift unto women. In Egypt, 97 percent of girls are circumcised. Nawal el Saadawi, a leading Egyptian feminist and author, describes in her autobiography, The Hidden Face of Eve, how, at the age of six, this monstrosity was violently perpetrated against her -- while her mother stood by and smiled proudly.
While Egyptian girls’ clitorises are amputated (clitoridectomy), in countries like Sudan the purifiers are not so kind: all the women’s external genital organs are completely removed. In a crime against humanity called infibulation, the clitoris, the two major outer lips (labia majora) and the two minor inner lips (labia minora) are amputated.
Many of the “purified” victims lose their lives during this torture – which is often inflicted with broken glass. Most victims suffer from severe and chronic infections and pain for the rest of their lives. With serious and disabling lifelong consequences, the mutilation robs women of their equilibrium forever. It deprives them from enjoying the fullness of their sexuality and the completeness of their lives.
More than a hundred and thirty million women living today have been victimized by this horrifying crime, and more than two million girls are assaulted by it each year. In other words, we are talking about 6,000 girls every day -- 6,000 girls today.

When I was a student in the 1970s this was never mentioned by any of the feminist consciousness raising seminars. It is prohibited in Great Britain (most recently by the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003) and also in many of the African countries where it is practised. However making sure that the law is obeyed is another problem. In Western Europe we definitely need some consciousness raising, on the scale of Don’t Drink and Drive, and some political will for enforcement. Teachers in British schools are warned to watch out for girls from the cultures where this is customary being taken “on holiday” back to Africa when about the favoured age, but they are then powerless to act.
The practice does not seem to be approved of by Asian Moslems. I remember about 15 years ago a colleague and I explained the practice and what it involved to a third colleague, a Moslem of Pakistani parentage. His shock and horror was , I believe, genuine. He had no idea. At that time there was hope that the custom was dying out and could be eradicated with a couple of generations. We were so naïve.
My fear is that it will now start to spread into cultures where it was not previously practised. The hijab was not worn by Pakistani girls when I was at school: then they wore a long filmy scarf. The hijab seems to be an a North African preference which has spread under the influence of fundamentalists. No way would I want to see FGM spread in a similar manner. The hijab can be removed and does not kill, FGM cannot and does. Horribly.
I will quote from a doctor from North Africa (Egypt if I remember correctly) who I saw interviewed on the subject. I paraphrase, from memory but I am confident that I am accurate. She said
“This must stop. It is not interfering with our culture, IT IS CHILD ABUSE!!! “
I am not suprised that this practise is probably happening in Canada and the U.S. This is why the proposed sharia law in Canada must be stopped. Report any suspicious families that does this practise to social services.
It gets worse: Because the girl is mutilated and scarred and deformed, during birth she doesn't properly dialate, and the baby becomes part of a "fistula," a dead and rotting thing that can't be removed, leaving the girl incapable of surviving, as well; hence, out she goes, wherever out might be, the street, the marsh, the desert. And who really cares? Women are cheap and dirty, and they often produce daughters!
Women perpetuate this monstrousness. Women have to be prevented from committing it. Women have to make them stop. This is a Human rights issue, but truely, only women can make it stop. Ladies, if you daughter marries a Moslem your granddaughters will be mutilated Moslems. Mne can do some things very well, but this is an issue that women have to focus on. My solution would be to use a chainsaw for a problem that requires something else, though I can't begin to guess what else.
If you can't do anything else in this struggle there is at least this mutilation practice you can discuss with your friends and co-workers. I don't know if it will do any good. Most people I talk to about this refuse to believe me. Those who do are disgusted and refuse to listen. If there are Moslems in your community, you can be certain that the practice happens there. Make some small step to talk about this with your friends. Ladies, I'm sure you can deal with this in a more effective manner than can the average man. Stop this savagery. It goes beyond politics, culture, beliefs, opinions, religion: this practice of mutilating little girls is the sickest thing I can imagine, and unfortunately for me, I've seen it many times in the form of bloody rags and pus soaked cloth tossed casually on the streets, and I've seen children buried daily, females with a stone at their feet, males with a stone also at the head of their grave. At least tell your friends what Moslems do to little girls.

No Asylum to these monsters anymore! Ship them out if there is the slightest suspicion that they will committ such a crime. And If the child is young enough find foster parents who are civilised enough to take care of such a child...

Female Genital mutalation has no place in Islam, its not written anywhere in the Quran or Hadiths. It is an African practice borrowed from animists, so you are all wrong to link this practice to Islam, again the emphasis is Africa, mostly african families are using this practise,most of them are not educated thats and follow the traditions of their ancestors not becaue Islam told them to. I have never heard this practice being used in the Middle east or in Asia where there are way more Muslims in their thatn in Africa.
