BANGKOK, Thailand -- Thousands of teachers in Thailand have walked off their jobs to protest a lack of security in the country's south.More than 300 schools in Pattani province, a region hard hit by a Muslim insurgency, closed their doors Thursday.
But others in Yala and Narathiwat provinces remained open.
Pairat Wihakarat, who heads the Southern Teachers Association, told The Associated Press a meeting would be held Thursday to decide whether to close schools in these two provinces.
The teachers say they won't return to school until the government can provide adequate protection, an education official said.
Militants have been targeting teachers and other government workers, with three teachers killed in recent weeks.
Violence has troubled the Muslim south of predominantly Buddhist Thailand for decades, but has worsened this year, with more than 500 people dying so far.

Al BBC already has an article suggesting blame on schools with 'Buddhist ' curriculum! Seriously though, did anyone hear of other faiths killing teachers and bombing schools?? This is just an excuse by Muslims to take over Southern Thailand in violent Jihad. If I had been a Thai policemen faced with machete & axe wielding Muslim youths on motorcycles, would have shot the buggers. Think Thai attitude is hardening : they've had enough of Muslims - HAVEN'T WE ALL!!

This little article should be the main artile on every front page on every news paper news paper in Thailand,so then there cant be no excuse for misunder standing of the meaning behind the message that the Thias tried to send to the a few weeks ago to the muslims in the south.
The Muslims should take this as a final warning,if they should explode just one bomb,kill another monk,police or any body else,then I suggest Thaksim order a full out war.the first thing the thias should do is to demolish every mosque as the thia muslims have already shown that the mosques are not only a place of worship

I think it really boils down to an issue of Human Rights don't you? Anytime you have groups of human beings whether they are family, tribe, nation, or corporation the "evils" that get done are really violations of human rights. When you see the root problem as human rights issues then "groupings" become almost irrelevant as objects of your disgust, meaning you’ll find these problems everywhere people are no matter the ideology. It looks like Islam and its adherents are the main threat to human rights, freedom, and life on the planet at the moment and the system of government instituted in the United States has been the best thing to ever come along in the way people ruling themselves. Our system of government isn’t perfect and never has been but we have the ability to say something about it and change it when necessary.
