Allah off the Richter Scale

More on this theme from Arnaud de Borchgrave. (Thanks to BigV for the link.)

WASHINGTON -- The killer wave that swallowed tens of thousands of Muslims was an act of Allah designed to punish the Christians. So went the convoluted logic of some Muslim imams in last Friday's sermons from Saudi Arabia to the Palestinian territories. If it weren't for the diligent monitoring of Muslim clerics by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), Americans would be in the dark about the outpourings of dangerous drivel fed to devout Muslims as they gather in mosques for Friday prayers.

Saudi cleric Muhammad Al-Munajiid explained God's tsunami punishment of the Christians stemmed from "the Christian holidays (that) are accompanied by forbidden things, by immorality, abomination, adultery, alcohol, drunken dancing and revelry. A belly dancer costs 2,500 pounds a minute, and a singer costs 50,000 pounds an hour, and they hop from one hotel to another from night to dawn. Then they spend the entire night defying Allah. ... At the height of immorality, Allah took revenge on these criminals. ... Allah struck them with an earthquake. He finished off the Richter scale. All nine levels gone."

In the same vein, Sheikh Mudeiris, at a Palestinian Friday sermon in Gaza, said, "When oppression and corruption increase, the law of equilibrium applies. I can see in your eyes you are wondering what is the 'universal law of equilibrium.' This law is a divine law. If people are remiss in implementing God's law and in being zealous and vengeful for His sake, Allah unleashes his soldiers in action to take revenge."

In Saudi Arabia, one of last year's measures to counter mosque-generated hatred was a ban on the use of the word "jihad," or holy war, by imams. But the content hadn't changed much without the banned word. Saudi cleric 'Aed Al-Qarni told the worshippers, "Throats must be slit and skulls must be shattered. This is the path to victory." He was reacting to the death of a brother "killed by the brothers of apes and pigs, the murderers of the prophets." In case there was any doubt, he was referring to the Jews of Israel. He then deplored lamented the lack of Muslim backbone: "One billion two hundred million nobodies! We are incapable of taking action, of being useful, of harming the Jews. The most people do today is to verbally protest over the TV channels or to demonstrate. What is the use of this? ... We must sacrifice people like Abd Al-Aziz Al-Rantisi, and Ahmed Yassin (Hamas leaders killed by Israeli air strikes in Gaza), and thousands of others. Houses and young men must be sacrificed. Throats must be slit and skulls must be shattered. This is the path to victory, to shahada, and to sacrifice." ...

Saudi clerics have also been urging the Iraqis to resist "the American occupation of Iraq." They can urge jihad without the proscribed word for holy war.

It's a shame that closet pork eaters like this one are permitted to speak publicly, let alone speak at all.

OK, so when Christians allegedly misbehave, Allah kills Muslims?

I hope the entire Muslim world heard about this clown's remark, hopefully if they did, some will leave Islam.

On the other hand, remarks like this would almost certainly encourage some non-Muslims to misbehave all the more.

This guy is a pathetic Christian & Jew hating racist infidel, and badly in need of a whipping.

But then again the very large majority of Indonesians who died in the tsunami were Achenese Muslims living in a sharia dominated province. What these clerics are saying only makes sense (from their point of view) if they are out to profit personally from this disaster.

These clerics are just ethically corrupt individuals trying to terrify people into giving themselves more power. Power seems more important to these clerics than even the most basic humanist values.

Basically it is our humanist values that is the difference between us and them. It is that simple.

P.S. You could also say that our christian values are the difference between us and them also since Jesus in word and dead was unusually humane for his time and ours.

>These clerics are just ethically corrupt
> individuals trying to terrify people into
>giving themselves more power. Power seems
>more important to these clerics than even
>the most basic humanist values.

I believe you have that exactly right. They might as easily have concluded that Allah is perturbed over the murderous acts of Islamic Terrorists. If they had, they would not only place themselves in danger by speaking against the terrorists, but also eroded their own power base to boot. So it doesn't profit them one iota to be honest with themselves or anyone else. Despicable charlatans, the whole lot of them. "Learned men" my racially indeterminate @$$!

>Basically it is our humanist values
>that is the difference between us
>and them. It is that simple.

That and the knowledge that we are at the mercy of a living planet and not an invisible, unknowable, cosmic-being that wants us to kill each other over some arbitrary rules of personal behavior. No the damn planet doesn’t really give a hoot in hell what we human beings do on its surface. It’s just going to do whatever the laws of physics dictate, not the laws of men or of "gods."

f.g.

If I were a muslim I would be waiting for this cleric to act first. It's funny how the clerics demand everyone else give their life but they seem to be needed at the mosque.

Has anyone been able to obtain any video,or photographs of those giant black spiders that a Sheihk claimed where unleashed on Iraq? That is still one of my favorites.

These childrens fairy tales would be funny if they where not so sad.But as usual many muslims who are so steeped in the Quran, and hadith will believe anything that their Imams, and clerics tell them.

God forbid ! if they where allowed to think for themselves.

Carolyn2 said - If I were a muslim I would be waiting for this cleric to act first. It's funny how the clerics demand everyone else give their life but they seem to be needed at the mosque.

Exactly! The same could be said for the terrorist "leaders." The first matter of business seems to be their assured escape. When the U.S. troops arrive to fight, they run! But they tell their followers to stay and fight to the death.

"We are incapable of taking action, of being useful, of harming the Jews."

Well, there's the root of the problem in the Middle East for you - Being useful is harming the Jews!

"One billion two hundred million nobodies!"
RACIST ISLAMOPHOBE!!!
Think that will make CAIR's Incitement Watch?

Allah’s plan is unknowable, so how can any Moslem claim to know what he is doing?

So Allah the Most Merciful kills ten of thousands of his faithful to punish the Christians.

If we (Christians) could only receive this kind of punishment weekly, the Mohammadanism problem would no longer be a problem.

I feel really bad for the Moslem, he gets killed in Iraq and his family is told that Allah is punishing the infidel, thousands upon thousands killed by the massive power of water and again it is just Allah punishing the infidel.

When will the thinking Moslem ask, if Allah is punishing the infidel, then why are more Moslems dying then Christians? I forget, you cant think for yourself, if you’re a Moslem.

With friends like Allah, who needs any enemies?

I saw a report on NBC news where they reported that an Egyptian paper was saying that the aid coming from muslim countires was sparse because they were "afraid the money would fall into the hands of the infidels"...and also they reported the Christian holiday theory, and the US/Isreal/India nuke theory...and my favorite...the "infidels with their evil thoughts" theory.

If muslims believe that we can cause natural disasters simply by celebrating holidays or by having 'evil thoughts' perhaps its time to take advantage of that...soon the insurgents in iraq will be running for cover if a US soldier gives them a dirty look.

According to Imans' twisted logic,Christians enjoying themselves make Allah kill Muslims...
In that case folks lets live it up!

I’ve read the posts asking for Jihadwatch readers to provide ideas for what we might do to help spread the word. From what I’ve seen so far, there are some great ideas and you have my complete support. I would suggest though that we’d be remiss in our efforts if first we didn’t recognize and show our tangible support and appreciation to Robert and Hugh for running the Jihadwatch site. They’re providing a great service and doing outstanding work--I think we should do what we can to help them continue that work.

With that said, I’M CHALLENGING ALL JIHADWATCH READERS TO DONATE $100.00 (OR WHATEVER YOU CAN) TO JIHADWATCH.ORG AND TO SEND AT LEAST ONE OF ROBERT’S BOOKS TO SOMEONE (FRIEND, FOE, FAMILY, POLITICIAN, ETC.).

There’s a donation link in the left column on the home page and a link at the top of the page for purchasing books.

Any takers?

This Mad Mahdi said this stems from "the Christian holidays (that) are accompanied by forbidden things, by immorality, abomination, adultery, alcohol, drunken dancing and revelry. A belly dancer costs 2,500 pounds a minute, and a singer costs 50,000 pounds an hour, and they hop from one hotel to another from night to dawn. Then they spend the entire night defying Allah. ... “
Some silly points come to my irreverent little mind.
First, belly dancing is not a Christian or European tradition, however if he really wants to be offended by Western culture I can put him in touch with a saucy group of biking English Morris Dancers.
Second if Belly Dancers and singers really do earn £2500 a minute and £50.000 an hour then I am in the wrong business. I never could sing but now Christmas is over perhaps I should take up the ethnic culture dance lessons at the community centre.
On a serious note just keep in mind Luke 13. That victims of disasters are no more guilty than anybody else, but it is good to always live at peace with the Lord.

Aceh province has been war zone for some time as Islamists are fighting for a Islamic government in that area. Little aid is coming from Muslim countries because of the belief that Muslims that allow "criminal infidels" to enjoy themselves on their beaches, consume alcohol, and other "crimes," deserve the wrath of Allah.

I wouldn't be surprised that Muslims will now feel humiliated that the West has come to their aid and will feel resentful rather than grateful.

These muslim 'teachers' are all a bunch of whack-jobs. The basic theory that "BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO YOU BECAUSE YOUR FAITH ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH!!" is a bunch of hooey. As above posters have suggested these false teachers are using this for personal gain so as to scare these poor people into shocked submission. Earthquakes and tsunamis do not care what god (or God) you follow, if any. When it rains, both the righteous and the unrighteous get wet. God is good, there is no doubt. He will probably use this disaster for good, that is to save souls in SE Asia. He will do it because He is willing that none shall perish, but that all shall come to everlasting life.
NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, can ever perfectly understand the mind of YHWH, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. No Jew, no Christian, no Muslim, not me and not you can ever perfectly understand God's love for us and His grace towards the undeserving sinner. So stop trying, you half-wit muslim preachers and get a grip.

Two and a half grand a minute for belly dancing?
Sign me up, Habib!

Oh, sorry - I'm male, 59 and have arthritis.

How 'bout two hundred bucks a minute for a soft-shoe shuffle?

As we Aussies are prone to say, "Sh*t a bl**dy brick!"

I heard someone from MEMRI on the Sean Hannity Show discussing the Imams' ridiculous statements. It was good to hear this kind of talk on a nationwide radio program.

How does a holy man like cleric Muhammad Al-Munajiid know that a belly dancer costs 2,500 pounds per minute? Has he been comparison shopping?

Posted 10 days after the Assassination Murder of Iain Hook by 64 U.N. staff and colleagues stationed in Israel and the Occupied Terroritories at the time of Iain Hook's Assassination!

U.N. Workers Petition Israel:Stop "Beating and Killing" Us
>>> On 3 December 2002, sixty-four U.N. workers issued a stunning petition. Stationed in Israel and the Occupied Territories, they demanded that the Israeli military stop "beating and killing" them.

You might think that such a strongly-worded statement sent by more than five-dozen United Nations workers to the "Middle East's only democracy" would be highly newsworthy. Apparently not. Among the very few media outlets to cover it were Reuters, the BBC, the Independent (London), Ha'aretz (Jerusalem), and the Jerusalem Post. Notice that all these sources are British or Israeli. Not one American media outlet has covered the story.
Below, I have excerpted all of the direct quotes from the petition that are used in the articles. Below that, you'll find what seems to be the full text of the petition, which was posted to IndyMedia Israel. While I, of course, cannot vouch for the authenticity of that posting, it does contain all of the quotations from news articles.

Quotes from the petition,
as reported in various news articles

"We write to express our absolute condemnation at the senseless killing of Iain Hook in Jenin on November 22. Based on publicly available information, we condemn the Israeli army in the strongest possible terms for this wanton act against an unarmed man--a man shot in the back by a military sniper while negotiating with the Israeli army to evacuate the women, children, and UN staff who were in the UN compound at the time."
....
"For two years United Nations staff have been subject to escalating harassment and violence by Israel's military, so that the protection supposed to be afforded by the blue letters of the UN is being steadily eroded... UN staff--international and Palestinian alike--have been verbally abused, stripped, beaten, shot at, and killed by Israeli soldiers."
....
"From its silence, we presume the Israeli authorities have ignored UN requests for an investigation and report of these two incidents, and have not seen fit to take any disciplinary action against the soldiers involved.
To us, this seems to confirm a pattern of utter contempt on the part of the Israeli army for the lost lives of these men, the safety of UN staff, or the minimum standards imposed by international law which should protect UN staff and other humanitarian workers."
....
"In these tragic circumstances, rather than easily uttered regrets, we expect the Israeli government take the necessary steps to stop the harassment, beating and killing of UN staff."
The petition, as posted to Israel IndyMedia
December 3, 2002

To whom it may concern,
_____________________________________________________________
We, the undersigned,
are staff members of the United Nations,
but we write in our personal capacities.
All of us work in the West Bank and Gaza Strip
bringing badly needed humanitarian relief to a population in distress.
In the course of our duties we have witnessed much tragedy on both sides of the conflict. We have come from all over the world to work, without bias or favour, to try to alleviate some of the pain and suffering that has for too long afflicted this land.

Now we find that, once again, tragedy has touched us.
For us, expressions of sadness and grief are not enough.
The diplomatic language of the bureaucrat will not suffice.
We write to express our absolute condemnation at the
senseless killing of Iain Hook in Jenin
on November 22.
Based on publicly available information,
we condemn the Israeli army in the strongest possible terms for this wanton act against an unarmed man--a man shot in the back by a military sniper
while negotiating with the Israeli army
to evacuate the women, children and UN staff
who were in the UN compound at the time.

Our condemnation is reinforced
by the knowledge that the soldiers refused to allow an ambulance called to evacuate Iain
to travel the last few yards needed to reach him.
Instead, UN staff
here [were] forced to seek an alternative route to rescue him.
This caused a delay and made sure
that the work done by a bullet was completed by the Israeli army's refusal to respect the most elementary standards of humanity.

The shock of that day's events does not come in isolation.
For two years, United Nations staff have been subject to escalating harassment and violence by Israel's military,
so that the protection supposed to be afforded by the blue letters
of the UN is being steadily eroded.

UN staff--international and Palestinian alike--have been verbally abused, stripped, beaten, shot at and killed by Israeli soldiers.
There has been armed interference with UN employees and vehicles, including attacks on UN ambulances and medical personnel.
UNRWA schools, health clinics and offices have been hit by bombs, rockets, tank shells and gunfire even during daytime,
thereby endangering the lives of staff and,
in the case of schools, the lives of refugee children.
Buildings occupied by UN staff have been repeatedly damaged during Israeli airforce bombing.

Tragically Iain Hook
was not the first person working with the UN
to die at the hands of the IDF this year.
In March, Kamal Hamdan was shot and killed
while travelling in a clearly marked UNRWA ambulance in the West Bank.
In April, Husni Amer died
in Israeli military custody in Jenin after,
according to witnesses, receiving a brutal beating by the soldiers at the time of his arrest.
From its silence, we presume the Israeli authorities
have ignored UN requests for an investigation
and report of these two incidents,
and
have not seen fit to take any disciplinary action against the soldiers involved.
___________________________________________________
To us, this seems to confirm a pattern
of utter contempt on the part of the Israeli army
for the lost lives of these men,
the safety of UN staff
or
the minimum standards
imposed by international law which should protect UN staff and other humanitarian workers.

The official military spokesperson's statement
on the initial investigation
into Iain's killing asserts that shots were fired from UNRWA's compound in the Jenin refugee camp towards Israel's forces. This contradicts eyewitness accounts of our colleagues in Jenin and the information relayed to UNRWA's Field Office by Iain just prior to his death.
The most charitable characterization one can make of this statement is that it lacks any credibility.
To us, it has all the makings of propaganda
designed to tarnish the reputation of the UN,
excuse the killing of an unarmed man and perpetuate
the false charge that UNRWA shelters terrorists, in the public mind.
We strongly request that any investigation carried out by the Israeli government will be independent, transparent and impartial.
We strongly request
that the Israeli government will bring those responsible for Iain's killing promptly to justice.
Only the most lawless societies
allow gunmen in uniform the impunity to kill
aid workers without fear of punishment.
We are confident Israel does not wish to see its troops painted
in the same colours as the militiamen
who have stalked some of the world's other conflicts.

As UN staff, we expect the protection of the Israeli government
to enable us to undertake our humanitarian responsibilities
wherever they are needed.
This is not a matter of courtesy or favour,
but rather an implementation of
Israel's own obligations
under international law
and its express commitment to UNRWA to facilitate the Agency's operations in the occupied territories.

Israel's often stated regret at the loss of civilian lives is not an impervious shield that can deflect all criticism. It is a shield that is, in our view, tarnished by the attempts of Israeli spokespersons to link Iain's death to wider political issues or to claim that the UN was somehow culpable for his killing.
____________________________________________________________
In these tragic circumstances,
rather than easily uttered regrets,
we expect the Israeli Government
take the necessary steps to stop the harassment, beating and killing of UN staff.
________________________________________________________________
We expect respect and protection as United Nations employees.
As international staff members, we hope and expect to return alive to our own countries and families after our work here is done.
We hope and expect no less
for our Palestinian colleagues
so they can live and work in safety until the parties to the conflict eventually find the road to peace.
