PARIS, France, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- As the world is focused on the victims of the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia, a debate is raging among Muslim scholars about an ancient topic: Who is your neighbor? "Some insist it's the fellow Muslim," says the Rev. Hans Voecking, one of the Roman Catholic Church's leading experts on Islam. "Others feel charity should be extended to any human being."One Muslim Internet blogger accused his coreligionists of "racism" because their aid is chiefly directed at Islamic nations.
Well, racism is clearly the wrong term, for racism is one evil Muslims cannot be accused of. More likely, many - though definitely not all - Muslim thinkers have a deficient view of man, meaning that only those who share their faith deserve maximum charity.
"The problem is that the Good Samaritan and Christ's commandment to love your enemy are not concepts you will find in the Koran," explains Christine Schirrmacher, president of the Bonn-based Islamic Affairs institute.
Hence, Muslim concern is reserved for the Umma, or Islamic community. Wander through Muslim Web sites, and you will find ample confirmation for this insight.
Of course some Muslims find this embarrassing. One blogger pillories the stinginess of the Saudi Arabian government, which offered only a $10 million contribution to tsunami relief operations. "Contrast this with $155 million raised a year ago in a Saudi telethon to support the families of Palestinian suicide bombers," the blogger writes.
"The problem is that the Good Samaritan and Christ's commandment to love your enemy are not concepts you will find in the Koran," explains Christine Schirrmacher, president of the Bonn-based Islamic Affairs institute.
I suspect Ms. Schirrmacher has this from the Qur'an in mind when she made her comment:
"O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."

Not exactly the ringing endorsement of Good Samaritanism that we were hoping for.
Kinda flies in the face of everything the multi-culti leftists would have everybody believe about our good "friends" in other parts of the world, doesn't it?
True Mike. The thing that worries me is that many EU politicians, among many other people in the west (e.g. many radical secularists/atheists), seem to have forgotten where are humanist core values came from. They don't acknowledge or value the source of our most sacred modern values. Are they afraid recognising that source will in some way dilute their humanism? They are crazy to believe the egg will harm the chicken.
Why is the west Humanist/so humane? This humanism didn't come from out of a complete conceptual vacuum. Many of our humanist core values come either directly from Jesus’ teachings (e.g. the love thy enemies concept) or from a gradual evolution of them. Jesus’ love thy enemy concept is an early example of the idea of human rights we so revere today. Jesus was saying someone may be your enemy but if you have power over that enemy be kind to them.
Mohammad wouldn't have understood or endorsed this concept as he was constantly trying to dominate his enemies through brutal warfare. For Mohammad these concepts would have got in his way for total power.
So are there Good Samaritan Muslims? That depends on how many have finally decided to stop despising the west and its core values and embrace them instead. There are dangerously too few such people...we all know that.

It’s often been said that out of disaster comes hope and out of chaos comes opportunity. The Tsunami’s that ravaged Southeast Asia this last week exemplify both. Most notably they give the West a chance to bring hope to a forgotten people and an opportunity for the United States in the War on Terror.
For so long the third world has seen Western Powers, most notably the United States, through the prism of its ability to wage war and ability to create an exclusionary civilization. Now hundreds of sailors and marines aboard aircraft carriers, akin to floating cities are embarking on the largest operation of its kind in Southeast Asia since the Vietnam War, only this time not to wage war but to fan out and provide hope through airdrops to remote areas and clinics to save hundreds from dying of simple infections.
As rebuilding begins and entire cities start over, the opportunity arises not just to rebuild but to do so in a manner that raises up communities and improves their access to proper shelter, preventative health care, and strong civic institutions. One of the most formative pioneers of building upon disaster relief to help communities leapfrog ahead was a maverick humanitarian expert named Fred Cuny. In Guatemala, following a massive earthquake in 1976. Cuny taught villagers how to rebuild their houses with simple low cost techniques that would increase their resistance to earthquakes. In a city under siege by snipers Cuny built water purification systems in the tunnels surrounding Sarajevo that helped save the city from falling to Serb forces. He later disappeared in the Russian province of Chechnya, but the ideas he spearheaded can be applied to helping tsunami victims with great effect.
Instead of handing out aid after initial relief efforts a smarter alternative would be to sell it at a negligible amount to existing merchants. By doing so you keep the commercial sector viable in the face of new imported goods and discourage the practice seen in Somalia of merchants financing warlords and bandits as they see their existing turf threatened.
There is also an opportunity for a ravaged infrastructure to leapfrog ahead in communications by using cell phones instead of landlines, or satellite internet access in schools and windup low-power radio as a cost effective way to bring a world of knowledge to the most remote patches of land on earth.
As aid flows in we can distribute it through newly elected city councils advocating the inclusion of both disadvantaged women and religious elements of all faiths. Doing so helps ensure accountability and communal responsibility. As a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom assigned to a civil affairs unit I had the opportunity to witness the formation of the local neighborhood councils where Iraqi men and women, pastors and muslim clerics began the lurching progress toward grassroots democracy, regardless of many policy blunders by senior Department of Defense officials on the national level these efforts have helped elect local leaders that are seen as both legitimate and a refreshing alternative to Baathist rule.
Every touchdown of a navy chopper delivering relief supplies to the Indonesian province of Aceh, ravaged by both Islamic fundamentalism and civil war, is a defeat for the recruiting efforts of Al Qaeda affiliates like Jemiah Islamiya. Each act of humanity by Americans weakens the rhetoric used by fundamentalists as they attempt to win the hearts and minds of the Muslim world by painting the West as an enemy to all with little regard for the humanity of others. In parts of India communities of Muslims, Christians, and Hindus that saw tension are now replete with scenes of mosques and temples turned into sanctuaries for all survivors regardless of faith.
As millions of dollars of aid flows in the opportunity to help lift communities out of poverty through micro-loan development is immense. In Bangladesh, Grameen Bank, began giving out small loans to women’s co-ops that started their own small business ranging from weaving to building stores. The program has helped villages and most notably women lift themselves out of poverty and avoid the corruption normally replete in developing countries. It’s foreign aid that even a Republican like Senator Jesse Helms could support.
When Americans resume vacationing in Southeast Asia (an even better deal given the decline of the dollar against the euro) they can help encourage fishing communities to move away from destructive practices like logging and stun fishing to sustainable eco-tourism. Joint US–Host Nation military cooperation can serve not only as a basis for improved diplomatic relations but also encourage increased human rights awareness among local military forces which in turn increases trust between citizens and the military. That trust can increase cooperation on law enforcement and counter terrorism that keeps us all safe.
Hope survives and opportunities abound to surge forward in improving humanity as disaster presents itself. America can continue to shine as the beacon of a city upon the hill but only when it remains ever vigilant that its supremacy carries responsibility to insure the well being of its citizens by being a consistent advocate of remaining committed to its ideals even when it may not be politically convenient to do so.

Are there any others in this vast world who are more cruel hearted than Muslims toward the perceived lesser human being? They can put their mask of humanity on and do the old soft shoe like they usually do when it comes to giving a question a direct answer. However, the facts are there for any discerning people. Muslims openly declare to one another that non-Muslims are not worthy of compassion or mercy. the suffering of Infidels is not worth their attention! Yet they can only send $10 million to the $350 million (and up, likely half a billion or more) that Bush has allocated. Hell, here in Canada P.M. I admire your experience and goodwill, but I think you are wrong. If you look at the 20th century, you will see that Muslims are never grateful for anything. Any admiration and thanks that the US will get is going to be very brief. No doubt, after the unarmed US troops have pulled out of Indonesia, they will be accused of looting empty houses and raping Muslim women.
The UK allowed millions of Indians (Pakistanis) etc. to enter the country as a good will gesture for past imperial wrongs. Although the Sikhs and Hindus are not perfect, it was left up to the South Asian Muslims in the UK to start rioting and supporting terrorism. Surveys reveal that 14% of British Muslims support terror, that doesn't sound like much, but it adds up to hundreds of thousands of hostile people in a plot of land less than the size of two average US states. This from a community that was rescued from the Third World? There is no gratitude in Islam. Take also the British liberation of the Arab world from the Ottoman Empire after WWI; tell me when you have ever heard any thanks for that? Instead they will find the odd fault and pretend it was all nothing.
You talk of Bangladesh. I've been there, there is hardly a white face in Dacca, yet I found myself verbally abused and cheated at every turn. Bangladesh is propped up by Western aid yet I pity any Westerner that has to go there. I was amazed: I was a tourist, a guest in their country. I was there to spend money. I did not want anybody's job. I did not want anybody's house, abd yet they could not even be civil.
In nearby Calcutta (which I am very familiar with) I was subjected to daily abuse of some kind - although nothing like to the extent of Bangladesh. Once I was even refused service in a restaurant and I was refused a room in a half empty hotel. Sometimes I felt a black guy in Alabama in 1950. However, if you talk to friendly Calcuttans they are quick to tell you that these hostile loud mouths that give India a bad name, are mostly Muslims. Even a senior government official told me this, although they can never go on the record with such statements. The state of West Bengal (of which Calcutta is the capital) receives hundreds of millions of dollars in Western aid. Many a Muslim's children in this state have their education and health paid for by the West (especially the UK) and yet heaven forbid that a Westerner should ever darken their doorstep.
In Australia in the 1980's tens of thousands of Muslim Lebanese were granted asylum. Now the most dangerous areas of Sydney are areas where they have settled. They openly boast about hating "Aussies". There is no gratitude in Islam.
What about the US military aid to the internationalist Muslim rebels in Afghanistan in the 1980's? I remember at the time I was against this US involvement and I was accused of being a Communist or a pacifist. Now it is generally accepted that the US funding of thousands of foreign volunteers (from the Philippines, the Middle East, North Africa, Indonesia etc.) to fight the Soviets and the atheist Afghan government, was the catalyst for future international Islamic insurgency. It turned Afghanistan into an international university of jihad, funded by the CIA. (And they complain about the dhimmis of Europe?) They sent back their thanks in September 2001. - Send aid to Muslims? Forget it!
The Saudi's might have a point. Only send aid to co-religionists. There were thousands of Christians in the Nicobars and in some affected areas of India and Sri-Lanka. Let's only rebuild their houses, put clothes on their backs and mend their fishing boats - at least they won’t spit in our faces afterwards.

What is the solution to our woes? REPATRIATION. We all know this. I don't care about the colour of their skin; we can replace the millions of brown-skinned Muslims in the West with millions of persecuted brown-skinned Christians, its fine by me. After we have done this, if we can convince the Americans to stop pissing them off with fruitless military adventures, then the world might actually be a good place to live in. The problem with repatriation is where to send them? Their ancestral countries would not accept them.
My country is big enough. JI in Indonesia wants northern Australia anyway. So I think the Australian government should give the Islamists what they want and sell a chunk of uninhabited land the size of Israel. The EU and the USA should pay 100 billion dollars to Australia for having the new nation of "Musrael" bordering our territory. This money (U$5,000 per Australian) should be distributed to every Australian, which means that I could pay a few debts and go on holiday. Musrael would have a population of about 30 million formerly European, Australian and North American Muslims. These people would be allowed to sell all their property in the West at a fair price and take all their and valuables with them. The land value of all mosques in the West would also be given to the Musraeli government.
Border security would be handled by a private company funded by the UN. A Chinese or Russian contractor would be the fine (not American or else Australia would be overrun with Musraelis within six months). The Australian Army should officially become part of the US Army to help guard the Musreali border (it has been an extra unofficial division of the US army since Korea/Viet Nam anyway). The US taxpayer should finally accept their responsibility for the upkeep of the Australian armed forces, and if the Musraelis invade Australia, they would have to come and defend us because it would be their army that would be getting attacked.
If you would like to support me in my campaign for the creation of the sovereign People's Islamic Republic of Musrael, please write to your senator or Euro MP, because I could really do with a holiday.
And the P.M. of Australia, John Howard, has pledged one BILLION dollars, kind of making anything the Islamic nations come up with look like a fly-pee in the ocean.

Not all displaced Palestinians are Muslims.

Blacks are kidding themselves if they think they are equals in Islam. Same goes for anyone else who is not of Arab decent.
Billions of dollars are pouring in to help the stricken nations of South Asia. Yet India and Thailand have declared that they are in no need, and can take care of the situation on their own. The majority of the money will go to Shri Lanka and Indonesia. In fact the vast bulk of the money is going to be spent in Aceh, the hot bed of islamic fundamentalism.
Since the imposition of Sharia in Aceh, the persecition of Christians and other non-muslim minorities has gathered pace, with churches burnt down and Christians killed. What we will be doing in re-building the infrastructure in Aceh, is enabling the forces of Jijad to continue their murderous imposition of sharia on muslim and non-muslim alike. In the re-building, Mosques of course will have the first priority. It is unlikely that churches burnt down by the fanatic muslims in Aceh, will have any priority at all.
It is estimated that the aid pledged to tsunami relief is of tbe order of $500 per victim. This comapres to $0.40 per victim of the Jihad in Sudan.

In muslim minds, no gratitude is required. The infidel is doing what he has to, as it is the design of allah, and part of the jizya package.
I have often posted, for the better part of three years here and on LGF, that an exchange of populations, muslims in the West for the terribly persecuted Christians in muslim nations, is the only answer. We kill three birds with one stone.
1. Remove the threat of terrorism and internal destruction of our society. We also restore the freedoms that have been put under question as a consequence of the threat from within.
2. Save Christians in the muslim nations.
3. Force muslim nations to reformm or reject the koran. This they will have to, as without the West, muslim nations will starve to death.

That is a good thing to have in the Koran but according to many Islamic scholars these more compassionate sections of the Quran are cancelled out by aggressive and inhumane commandments.
Also, to be humane one must at all times practice humane values and I don't think according to the historical records that Mohammad was consistently humane for most peoples liking. The biographies, hadiths and sunnas mentioning Mohammad praising and committing murder (atleast we would call it murder today), torture, allowing the slaughtering of a whole Jewish tribe and having sexual relations with a woman whose male relatives he had just executed hours before paint a picture of inhumane behaviours. These are not humane practices, xyz. If these records are wrong then the whole lot of the religious texts they are a apart of must be wrong.
Also, you refer to the violence in the Old Testament. I referred only to Jesus' teachings and in every situation Jesus had a chance to be cruel or physically harm someone he did the opposite and was kind to them. His message was that god didn't want people to be violent or to use the Old Testament to justify violence. His message about "he who is without sin cast the first stone" was an effort by him to cancel out the Old Testament laws about stoning people to death.

Aid from Infidels, while readily accepted ,..only causes humiliation and subsequently increase in HATRED toward the generous infidel.
This should not affect our aid ...........(Aid is a moral imperative).............
.but, we hope the infidel governments ARE aware of this unfortunate trend.

As you can see I high lighted the most important part of the verse you quoted, it allows this verse in question to exclude all non Moslems.
Your Qur’an says that Jews and Christians are apes and pigs and it states that Allah hates all non Moslems, in light of those facts why would Allah have you be kinda to us apes and pigs?

The Permissibility of being Kind to Disbelievers who do not fight against the Religion And Allah's statement;
[لاَّ يَنْهَـكُمُ اللَّهُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَـتِلُوكُمْ فِى الدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُمْ مِّن دِيَـرِكُمْ]
(Allah does not forbid you with those who fought not against you on account of religion nor drove you out of your homes,) means, those who did not have a role in your expulsion. Therefore, Allah does not forbid you from being kind to the disbelievers who do not fight you because of the religion, such as women and weak disbelievers,
[أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ]
(to deal kindly) to be gentle with them,
[وَتُقْسِطُواْ إِلَيْهِمْ]
(and justly with those) to be fair with them
[إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ]
(Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.) Imam Ahmad recorded that Asma' bint Abu Bakr said, "My mother, who was an idolatress at the time, came to me during the Treaty of Peace, the Prophet conducted with the Quraysh. I came to the Prophet and said, `O Allah's Messenger! My mother came visiting, desiring something from me, should I treat her with good relations' The Prophet said,
«نَعَمْ صِلِي أُمَّك»
(Yes. Keep good relation with your mother.)'' The Two Sahihs recorded this Hadith. Imam Ahmad recorded that `Abdullah bin Zubayr said, "Qutaylah came visiting her daughter, Asma' bint Abi Bakr, with some gifts, such as Dibab, cheese and clarified (cooking) butter, and she was an idolatress at that time. Asma' refused to accept her mother's gifts and did not let her enter her house. `A'ishah asked the Prophet about his verdict and Allah sent down the Ayah,

Dear Nathan , you may not know that Ishaq and Tabari are not from the six most important books of the Hadith, but even then i will try to get some details. Any way if you got a website related to that please do inform me. We do not give much importance to Tabari and Ishaq.

There are verses in Quran which also say ALLAH has made this world as a paradise for non muslims etc etc and also ALLAH would make palaces of gold and silver for non muslims but Muslims would revolt.

There are many scholars who also show the compassionate verses from the Quran etc, but the problem is that your media always shows Mullah Omar and Company Ltd.
You haven't read about life of Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him). There were many instances where he blessed his enemies.
The People of Taif stoned Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him), yet they were forgiven etc etc. There was a Jew lady who used to throw garbage on Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him). One day she didnt do it and Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him) went to her home and asked as to why she didn't do throw garbage on Him and she replied that she was sick.Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him) prayed for her and she recovered and recognised the true path and accepted Islam, ALhamdhuLiLLah. There are many such things ,
its more advisable to read Muhammed by Martin Lings.

Even in the New Testament we read the following statement attributed to Jesus saying to his disciples:

As far as your allegation of rape is considered you are wrong. According to Islam a woman seized during war is called a Bondswoman and not a sex slave. A man is not allowed to have sex with her unless she wishes and she cannot be converted forcefully. There is no such thing as sex slave. Its a western concept, as shown above from Bible.
A bondswoman also has been given some rights etc. Please consult some muslim scholars also related to these theological issues because what you hear is a part of the topic but to go deeper u need to know what more is there.
And related to the Jewish tribe, it was the tribe of Banu Najjar, who had signed a treaty of peace with Muslims and invited Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him)for a feast and made him sit under the shadow of a cliff. They had kept some Jews on the cliff who tried to push a huge boulder to kill Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him). But before that could happen , Angel Gabriel(peace and blessings be upon Him) descended and warned Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon Him)and thus a tragedy was averted but the treaty had been broken by the Jews. Hence the Jews were banished from Medina because they broke the treaty and not because they were Jews

Yep, XYZ, Jesus said the above, but as you must very well know he was telling a story, where he was quoting a certain king he was telling his disciples about who said the above words in Luke 19:26-27, it wasn't as you well know an actual order by jesus to his disciples to murder anyone. If I tell you a story about the thurd reich where I speak a quote from Hitler ordering the murder of the people, that doesn't mean I am ordering my listeners to murder anyone. It means I am quoting Hitler as part of the retelling of a story, nothing more.
